Week 37 Review: Anne & Henry

From Goodreads:
In this wonderfully creative retelling of the infamous—and torrid—love affair between Anne Boleyn and King Henry VIII, history collides with the present when a sizzling romance ignites in a modern-day high school.

Henry Tudor's life has been mapped out since the day he was born: student body president, valedictorian, Harvard Law School, and a stunning political career just like his father's. But ever since the death of his brother, the pressure for Henry to be perfect has doubled. And now he's trapped: forbidden from pursuing a life as an artist or dating any girl who isn't Tudor-approved.

Then Anne Boleyn crashes into his life.

Wild, brash, and outspoken, Anne is everything Henry isn't allowed to be—or want. But soon Anne is all he can think about. His mother, his friends, and even his girlfriend warn him away, but his desire for Anne consumes him.

Henry is willing to do anything to be with her, but once they're together, will their romance destroy them both?

Inspired by the true story of Anne Boleyn and King Henry VIII, Anne & Henry beautifully reimagines the intensity, love, and betrayal between one of the most infamous couples of all time.

My Review:
This book just really was fantastic! A retelling of Anne Bolyn and Henry Tudor? Set in the modern times? Yeah, utterly awesome, and just a really fantastic idea to come to fruition in this book! Just really loved it!

I did have a bit of a hard time reading this book, just knowing, from reading the ending, that it played out pretty similar to how it did historically. Just in a modern day retelling, so it wasn't life or death, but it was teenagers-I think most people know how bad teenagers can be!

And those scenes near the end, of what happened, from him meeting Jane Seymour, to the last few lines of the book, with the "beheading" in there, yeah, that was both sad that it happened in real life, but awesome how it translated into a modern retelling!

One thing that I really didn't like, not about the book, but what was in it, was the the trial. Students should not have the power to get other students expelled-it's a recipe for disaster, and it's what happened in this book. They should only have the power to send up the recommendation for the student's expulsion to the adults. Because students are teenagers, and you know how teenagers can be!

Such a fantastic, wonderful story, with a bittersweet ending, but just so great to read!
