Week 40 Review: A Wicked Thing

From Goodreads:
Rhiannon Thomas's dazzling debut novel is a spellbinding reimagining of Sleeping Beauty and what happens after happily ever after.

One hundred years after falling asleep, Princess Aurora wakes up to the kiss of a handsome prince and a broken kingdom that has been dreaming of her return. All the books say that she should be living happily ever after. But as Aurora understands all too well, the truth is nothing like the fairy tale.

Her family is long dead. Her "true love" is a kind stranger. And her whole life has been planned out by political foes while she slept.

As Aurora struggles to make sense of her new world, she begins to fear that the curse has left its mark on her, a fiery and dangerous thing that might be as wicked as the witch who once ensnared her. With her wedding day drawing near, Aurora must make the ultimate decision on how to save her kingdom: marry the prince or run.

Rhiannon Thomas weaves together vivid scenes of action, romance, and gorgeous gowns to reveal a richly imagined world … and Sleeping Beauty as she’s never been seen before.

My Review:
I wasn't expected to read this book this week. The day was almost done, and it was the last day of the week. I was thinking I would be reading it next week. But I started reading it, and then I just couldn't stop, it was just so good!

I've only seen the Disney movie, in which Aurora was only sleeping for about a day or so. So I never really thought about what it would be like if she'd been out of it for 100 years, and all the changes that would happen! Like her life and sleep becoming a fairy tale, albeit one edited for those that were awake!

Whenever the king was doing something bad, I just wish that Aurora could've taken back her throne. Because it was hers, she was the one that was supposed to have it, because she was the direct descendent, and he'd only been an advisor to a previous king. It was just so darned frustrating!

Her magic, we didn't get to learn much about it. She only really started to use it by the end, and then with that confrontation between her and the witch that spelled her, left a lot of questions, and I just want to know what's going to happen next!

Yep, such a fantastic book, and I just really, really want that sequel, and I'm so glad that I read this book now, when the wait is so much shorter! I need Kingdom of Ashes!
