Week 7 Reviews: Archangel's Kiss, Weapons Training, Archangel's Consort

From Goodreads:
Vampire hunter Elena Deveraux wakes from a year-long coma to find that she has become an angel-and that her lover, the stunningly dangerous archangel Raphael, likes having her under his control. But almost immediately, Raphael must ready Elena for a flight to Beijing, to attend a ball thrown by the archangel Lijuan. Ancient and without conscience, Lijuan's power lies with the dead. And she has organized the most perfect and most vicious of welcomes for Elena...

From Goodreads:
A short story about Jessamy and Galen.

For those of you unfamiliar with the Guild Hunter series, this story features Galen, Weaponsmaster to the Archangel Raphael, and Jessamy, Historian of the angelic race and teacher of their young.

For Guild Hunter fans, this story takes place during Archangel’s Kiss, after Galen has just completed a training session with Elena.

From Goodreads:
Vampire hunter Elena Deveraux and her lover, the lethally beautiful archangel Raphael, have returned home to New York only to face an uncompromising new evil…

A vampire has attacked a girls' school—the assault one of sheer, vicious madness—and it is only the first act. Rampant bloodlust takes vampire after vampire, threatening to make the streets run with blood. Then Raphael himself begins to show signs of an uncontrolled rage, as inexplicable storms darken the city skyline and the earth itself shudders. The omens are suddenly terrifyingly clear.

An ancient and malevolent immortal is rising. The violent winds whisper her name: Caliane. She has returned to reclaim her son, Raphael. Only one thing stands in her way: Elena, the consort who must be destroyed…

My Review:
I enjoyed reading these books so much! I guess I'm on something of a Nalini Singh kick right now! I'm going to be reading more of both series, because they're both just so freaking good, and most of them, I've only read once. Well, these two full length ones, I've now read 3 times, but still.

I'd forgotten how far Elena and Raphael had come in their relationship since the beginning. And that they hadn't really had a firm base before the final showdown with Uram. So there were some power struggles, and learning who the other person was. Which was really fun to read again!

Both these books had pretty important mysteries. Who was killing to try to get onto the Cadre? And was Caliane still crazy? I remembered the first, that was pretty easy, but I kinda thought that she had killed those people, though she wasn't crazy. So that was fun to go through again!

They also were pretty hard hitting, emotionally. Elena was confronted with her nightmares of the one who tortured and killed her family. And Raphael had to deal with the memory of his mom walking away from him while he lay broken. Not fun, not easy, but good reading!

Loved reading these, and I can't wait to reread more!
