Week 50 Reviews: Glitches, The Little Android, Cinder

Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She's a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s illness. In Glitches, a short prequel story to Cinder, we see the results of that illness play out, and the emotional toll that takes on Cinder. Something that may, or may not, be a glitch…

The Little Android is a retelling of The Little Mermaid, set in the world of The Lunar Chronicles by New York Times-bestselling author Marissa Meyer.

When android Mech6.0 saves the life of a handsome hardware engineer, her body is destroyed and her mechanics discover a glitch in her programming. Androids aren't meant to develop impractical reasoning or near-emotional responses…let alone fall in love.

From Goodreads:
Humans and androids crowd the raucous streets of New Beijing. A deadly plague ravages the population. From space, a ruthless lunar people watch, waiting to make their move. No one knows that Earth's fate hinges on one girl... Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She's a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister's illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai's, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past in order to protect her world's future.

My first review of Cinder
My Review:
I really enjoyed rereading these stories! I hadn't reviewed the short stories on the blog before, because they came out by themselves, and I didn't read them with a full length novel, so I just reviewed them on Goodreads. But I'm glad to have read them to review them on the blog!

The short stories were really great, I loved having them give more details about this world. Like Glitches was the story the early days of when Cinder was brought to her adoptive but not really, family. And the Little Android, that was just heartbreaking, because it's a retelling of The Little Mermaid, but not the Disney version, but the older one, which is much more sad and bittersweet. But I enjoyed reading both stories!

Oh, Cinder! I didn't realize that it'd been so long since I first-and only-read, it. So I'm so glad that I'm doing this reread of the series, because I don't think I've read any of the rest of the books more than once. I'd forgotten so much! Like, the way her stepmother treats her because she's a cyborg, it was just maddening! I just wanted to shake her for her prejudices! I mean, come on, Cinder is human, she just has metal limbs. Her brain wasn't replaced, darn it!

Going in, knowing about these characters and where they're going, like that Cinder is the Lunar Heir, that Scarlet's grandmother was the one who helped Cinder around the time when she became an cyborg, and that Queen Levana knows about her, has me really excited to read Scarlet next! And that Cinder was talking to Cress, and who Cress's father is, has me excited for Cress! And of course, the mention of Winter has me excited for her book, as well! I just want to reread this whole series! But I can't right now because I have so many other books to read before the year ends.

It was so great to read these stories, I enjoyed them so much, and I can't wait to continue!
