Week 13 Review: The Darkest Part of the Forest

From Goodreads:
A girl makes a secret sacrifice to the faerie king in this lush New York Times bestselling fantasy by author Holly Black

In the woods is a glass coffin. It rests on the ground, and in it sleeps a boy with horns on his head and ears as pointed as knives....

Hazel and her brother, Ben, live in Fairfold, where humans and the Folk exist side by side. Since they were children, Hazel and Ben have been telling each other stories about the boy in the glass coffin, that he is a prince and they are valiant knights, pretending their prince would be different from the other faeries, the ones who made cruel bargains, lurked in the shadows of trees, and doomed tourists. But as Hazel grows up, she puts aside those stories. Hazel knows the horned boy will never wake.

Until one day, he does....

As the world turns upside down, Hazel has to become the knight she once pretended to be.

The Darkest Part of the Forest is bestselling author Holly Black's triumphant return to the opulent, enchanting faerie tales that launched her YA career.

My Review:
Oh, this was such a fantastic read! Holly Black writes such excellent Folk stories, and I found out while writing this review that this, the Modern Faerie Tales, and the Folk of the Air series are in the same world, so that was fun to learn! I enjoyed how the rules worked, and had such a great time listening to the audiobook!

Hazel has secrets. She lives life to the fullest-because she made a bargain, for 7 years of her life, and who knows when they'll take it. She's a monster hunter-that's why she made the deal, because her brother wasn't comfortable with continuing, and she thought the Folk's end of the bargain would start Ben on the path to continuing their work. It backfired, however.

There was a lot of politics in this book, what with the nature of the Folk. With her bargain, with the prince out and about, and Jack, there were a lot of moving parts. I loved watching everything interact and come together!

I wasn't sure how things would work out. At the beginning, I kinda thought one thing, but as the book progressed and we learned certain things, I was thinking it would go another way, and yeah, really enjoyed which way it went!

This was another great story from Holly Black, and I think I've almost caught up, or read all of Holly Black's books that I'm intending to read, until her next release comes out! Yeah!
