Week 13 Review: The Pillars of the World

From Goodreads:
THE TREES WHISPER OF DANGER....

The youngest in a long line of witches, Ari senses that things are changing--changing for the worse. For generations, her kin have tended the Old Places, keeping the land safe and fertile. But with the Summer Moon, the mood of her neighbors has soured. And Ari is no longer safe.

The Fae have long ignored what occurs in the mortal world, passing through on their shadowy roads only long enough to amuse themselves. But the roads are slowly disappearing, leaving the Fae Clans isolated and alone.

Where harmony between the spiritual and the natural has always reigned, a dissonant chord now rings in the ears of both Fae and mortal. And when murmurs of a witch-hunt hum through the town, some begin to wonder if the different omens are notes in the same tune.

And all they have to guide them is a passing reference to something called the Pillars of the World....

My Review:
Of course I loved reading this book! I love all Anne Bishop's books. But this is the start of a new series and a new world, and they're always a bit of an adjustment, getting to know the lay of the land, the rules. They're excellent, but the subsequent books are even better, once you know how it works.

This world was the opposite of the Black Jewels, of a patriarchal society in control. In particular, witch hunters. And it made me so infuriated, the thoughts the Master Inquisitor had about women. I wanted him to feel all the pain that he was inflicting. I mean, he spread around the designs for a bridle. Gah!

This was Ari's story, at least in this book. Having read the synopsis of the other two books in the trilogy, I don't think the focus is going to be on her going forward, and that's a mixed bag because it means that she gets time to relax, as much as she can in this world, but it also means that we won't see much of her, which is too bad!

I had all sorts of wild theories about where this book would go. The was the whole thing with the Pillars of the World-and how the areas of Tir Alainn that were disappearing where the ones where the witch hunts had gone on. But there was all the romance and politics going on as well, and yeah, it all came together for a really excellent read!

I had such a great time reading this book, and I can't wait to continue the series!
