Week 2 Review: The Darkest Torment

From Goodreads:
New York Times bestselling author Gena Showalter returns with her most explosive Lords of the Underworld tale to date, about a fierce warrior on the brink of sanity who will stop at nothing to claim the exquisite human with the power to soothe the beast inside him…

Driven to his death by the demon of Distrust, Baden spent centuries in purgatory. Now he's back, but at what cost? Bound to the king of the underworld, an even darker force, he's unable to withstand the touch of another…and he's quickly devolving into a heartless assassin with an uncontrollable temper. Things only get worse when a mission goes awry and he finds himself saddled with a bride—just not his own.

Famed dog trainer Katarina Joelle is forced to marry a monster to protect her loved ones. When she's taken hostage by the ruthless, beautiful Baden immediately after the ceremony, she's plunged into a war between two evils—with a protector more dangerous than the monsters he hunts. They are meant to be enemies, but neither can resist the passion burning between them…and all too soon the biggest threat is to her heart.

But as Baden slips deeper into the abyss, she'll have to teach him to love…or lose him forever.

My first review of The Darkest Torment
My Review:
Oh, I just loved reading this book again! The fact that Katerina is a dog trainer, yeah, of course her story would end up involving supernatural dogs! And Baden, the one that most of the characters have been missing since the first book, alive, but with conditions. I couldn't get enough of their story!

I will say, that this time, it was much harder to read about the loss of her dogs. When I first read it, we still had Winky and Dobby, hadn't experienced that lost. And now we have neither, and Dobby's loss is pretty fresh, so it did hurt, quite a bit, reading that part, and I can totally understand why she was fully in her grief.

Baden had to deal with Destroyer, an entity that lives in his head, because of the bands that were given to him to bring him back to life-but they also mean that he's enslaved to Hades. The competition that he's in with Pandora with points-that brings him into Katarina's orbit, yeah, so entertaining to read!

I am wondering, is Pandora ever going to get a story? Since she was the one that was a part of their origin story of why they became the Lords of the Underworld? She was a really fun character to read in this book, and I really do hope she gets her own book in the future!

Loved reading this book even if it hurt at times, and I can't wait to continue my reread! Just another couple of books to go in this main series, then it's time for Rise of the Warlords!
