Week 48 Review: Survive

From Goodreads:
Jane is on a plane on her way home to Montclair, New Jersey, from a mental hospital. She is about to kill herself. Just before she can swallow a lethal dose of pills, the plane hits turbulence and everything goes black. Jane wakes up amidst piles of wreckage and charred bodies on a snowy mountaintop. There is only one other survivor: a boy named Paul, who inspires Jane to want to fight for her life for the first time.

Jane and Paul scale icy slopes and huddle together for warmth at night, forging an intense emotional bond. But the wilderness is a vast and lethal force, and only one of them will survive.

My Review:
This book is what the title says it's about. It's about survival, and the will to survive, and how to do so, even when the odds are in nature's favour of killing you. It's not an instruction book or a guide, and you shouldn't try this at home. At all. Ever. But it was a really compelling story!

I forget if it's irony or not, that just before she kills herself, she's in a plane crash that kills everyone but her and Paul, and she's found the will to live. I don't know. But reading this story, it's pretty inspiring, even though it was pretty bleak!

And I guess I should've been warned by the synopsis that something bad would happen to them while they're surviving crashing on the mountain. Because it does say that only one of them would survive. But I though that it would work out. And it didn't.

And yeah, that sucked, and made the ending just a bit more bitter. But Jane walked out of there a stronger person, and I think that she'll live life better, having gone through this experience. Not one that I'd wish on anybody, but she got through it. It was just sad that Paul didn't.

Such a fantastic, wonderful, sad, but brilliant book!
