Week 11 Review: Wild Country

From Goodreads:
In this powerful and exciting fantasy set in the world of the New York Times bestselling Others series, humans and the shape-shifting Others will see whether they can live side by side...without destroying one another.

There are ghost towns in the world—places where the humans were annihilated in retaliation for the slaughter of the shape-shifting Others.

One of those places is Bennett, a town at the northern end of the Elder Hills—a town surrounded by the wild country. Now efforts are being made to resettle Bennett as a community where humans and Others live and work together. A young female police officer has been hired as the deputy to a Wolfgard sheriff. A deadly type of Other wants to run a human-style saloon. And a couple with four foster children—one of whom is a blood prophet—hope to find acceptance.

But as they reopen the stores and the professional offices and start to make lives for themselves, the town of Bennett attracts the attention of other humans looking for profit. And the arrival of the Blackstone Clan, outlaws and gamblers all, will uncover secrets…or bury them.

My Review:
I loved reading this book again! I've loved it since the beginning, and of course I had to include it in my reread, because the people around Bennett really didn't play much a role in Etched in Bone as much as they did in Marked in Flesh, so it was great to see them after the events of Marked in Flesh!

We do mainly follow Jana, as she becomes a police officer in this frontier town, as well as Virgil, the sheriff, and Tobias and Jesse. Well, and Blackstones, but of course we need the villain's perspectives. It just really rounded out the story!

Jana is pretty fierce, especially since she wanted to be a police officer, but human settled land wouldn't hire a woman to do the active policing and she didn't want to be a receptionist. So she's had to prove herself, and she does that, but the pack of law enforcement has different preconceptions-mainly, that she's human, and they're Wolves.

This is the story of the town building itself back up from scratch, since it was one of the ones that the Elders destroyed, and I loved seeing that process, of all the people looking for a fresh start-and just how varied people they were! I loved watching them come together!

I really do hope that we see more of these characters in the future, and I can't wait to continue on with my reread!
