In this powerful and exciting fantasy set in the world of the New York Times bestselling Others series, humans and the shape-shifting Others will see whether they can live side by side...without destroying one another.
There are ghost towns in the world—places where the humans were annihilated in retaliation for the slaughter of the shape-shifting Others.
One of those places is Bennett, a town at the northern end of the Elder Hills—a town surrounded by the wild country. Now efforts are being made to resettle Bennett as a community where humans and Others live and work together. A young female police officer has been hired as the deputy to a Wolfgard sheriff. A deadly type of Other wants to run a human-style saloon. And a couple with four foster children—one of whom is a blood prophet—hope to find acceptance.
But as they reopen the stores and the professional offices and start to make lives for themselves, the town of Bennett attracts the attention of other humans looking for profit. And the arrival of the Blackstone Clan, outlaws and gamblers all, will uncover secrets…or bury them.
My first review of Wild Country
My Review:
It was so fantastic to read this book again! I just love this world, it's so great to read, and I really enjoyed watching the romance bloom between Jana and Tobias, see the town of Bennett grow and see how a mixed town should be after everything that's happened in this series. Yeah. So great!
This book leaves off in a weird space. They won, there were some pretty big losses, and tensions are pretty high. There's some hope for the future, but yeah, the Blackstone Clan really put a damper on Human/Other relations! And so soon after the HFL disaster!
For the next book, I just want everything. I want more Meg and Simon, more of the gang of Lake Silence, and more of this gang. But that'd be too much going on. Maybe two of them, but not all. I have faith that Anne Bishop will write what we need most, though!
Yeah, I just loved this book, and while the wait for a full length novel might be long (there's going to be another Black Jewels book next year, so it's going to be at least 2 years) for the next book in this series, it's going to be well worth it!
Reading this book was so fantastic, I loved it to pieces, and I think I might have to do a reread...
