Teaser Tuesday #342, October 31st
Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by Ambrosia of The Purple Booker. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
"I would have let it tear ye to shreds were it me and I knew ye'd set out to get me gored, fer surely ye must have realized that could happen."
Yeah, not the nicest prank, especially on your brother! But how she's defending him, that's so sweet! What about you guys? Happy reading!
- Grab your current read
- Open to a random page
- Share two (2) "teaser" sentences from somewhere on that page
- BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn't give too much away! You don't want to ruin the book for others!)
- Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!

So this week I want to read An English Bride in Scotland, To Marry a Scottish Laird, The Highlander Takes a Bride, Falling for the Highlander, Surrender to the Highlander, Even White Trash Zombies Get the Blues, Immortal Bound, Mind Game, and The Upside of Unrequited.
The first in a new historical series set in the Highlands of Scotland, from Lynsay Sands, the New York Times bestselling author of the Argeneau vampire series and countless historical romances.
Annabel was about to take the veil to become a nun when her mother suddenly arrives at the Abbey to take her home… so that she can marry the Scottish laird who is betrothed to her runaway sister! She knows nothing about being a wife, nothing about how to run a household, and definitely nothing about the marriage bed!
But from the moment Ross MacKay sets eyes on Annabel, he is taken with his shy sweet bride… and the fact that she's blessed with lush curves only makes him utter his own prayers of thanks. But when an enemy endangers her life, he'll move the Highlands themselves to save her. For though Annabel's not the bride he planned for, she's the only woman he desires…
New York Times bestselling author Lynsay Sands returns to the Highlands of Scotland in her hottest new historical romance yet!
Highlander Campbell Sinclair is no stranger to battle, so when he sees a lad attacked by bandits, he jumps into the fray. He didn't count on being stabbed. Grateful to the boy for nursing him back to health, Cam offers to accompany Jo safely to his destination. But when he accidentally comes across the lad bathing in the river, Cam discovers that Jo is actually Joan...with the most sinful of curves.
Joan promised her mother that she would deliver a scroll to the clan MacKay. But traveling alone is dangerous, even disguised as a boy. When a Scottish warrior lends his aid, she is more than relieved...until he surprises her with lingering kisses and caresses that prove her disguise hasn't fooled him. As their passion ignites, will the secrets of the scroll force a wedding...and lead to a love she's never known?
A bold, seductive laird meets his passionate match in a scintillating Highland romance from New York Times bestselling author Lynsay Sands...
Sword fighting, swearing, and riding astride come naturally to Saidh Buchanan. Simpering and holding her tongue—definitely not. Raised alongside seven boisterous brothers, Saidh has little interest in saddling herself with a husband... until she glimpses the new Laird MacDonnell bathing naked in the loch. Though she's far from a proper lady, the brawny Highlander makes Saidh feel every inch a woman.
She has an angel's looks, a warrior's temper, and seeks out his kisses with wanton eagerness. Little wonder that Greer is intrigued by his comely guest. When reckless desire overtakes them, he's more than willing to make an honest woman of her. But Saidh is the target of a hidden enemy, and Greer faces the battle of his life to safeguard the woman he wants above all others.
Lady Murine Carmichael has known her share of bad luck. But when her debt-ridden half-brother tries to sell her off in exchange for a few Scottish horses, it's the final straw. If keeping her freedom means escaping through harsh countryside alone, so be it. She has barely begun her journey when she lands an unlikely escort—the brawny Highlander who just refused to buy her virtue.
Dougall Buchanan was disgusted by Lord Danvries' shameful offer, but Murine herself tempts him beyond measure. Even bedraggled and dusty, the lass glows with beauty and bravery. Dougall wants to do more than just help her flee. He wants to protect her—with his life and his heart—if she'll only let him. For Murine may be pursued by a powerful foe, but nothing compares to the fiery courage of a Highlander in love.
In New York Times bestselling author Lynsay Sands' captivating romance, a lass targeted by an unknown foe is saved—and seduced—by a bold Highlander...
Edith Drummond owes her life to Niels Buchanan and his brothers. Waking after an illness to a castle overrun by rugged Highlanders is disconcerting, but so is learning that she's slowly being poisoned. Niels insists on staying by her side, and Edith soon discovers that even more dangerous is her wild attraction to the fierce warrior.
Niels has never met a more courageous—or enticing—woman than Lady Edith. The idea of such a bonny lass being forced to enter a nunnery is more than any red-blooded Scotsman could bear. He'll gladly marry her himself. But while sweeping her off her feet is easy, it'll take all his skill to defeat her family's relentless enemies, and convince her to surrender to his sweet embrace.
Angel Crawford is finally starting to get used to life as a brain-eating zombie, but her problems are far from over. Her felony record is coming back to haunt her, more zombie hunters are popping up, and she's beginning to wonder if her hunky cop-boyfriend is involved with the zombie mafia. Yeah, that's right—the zombie mafia.
Throw in a secret lab and a lot of conspiracy, and Angel's going to need all of her brainpower—and maybe a brain smoothie as well—in order to get through it without falling apart.
Against the rising horde of the underworld, the gods have one weapon: Vee Shankar. Special Agent. Supernatural CSI.
Beneath New York's cosmopolitan veneer lies a darker truth--a concrete jungle of the supernatural kind. But humanity is protected, their souls guarded by ancient and powerful Hindu Gods.
The Shankars deal in death--demons, evil spirits, possessions, and even the odd rogue God or two. But Vee's power to read life essences is a gift and a curse. She's a Warrior of the Gods, but she's also in the crosshairs of powerful demonic forces. And from the shadows, dark things come, dogging her every step, threatening her every move.
She doesn’t know it, but Vee’s power means more than just a quirk of her DNA. Her true identity is a secret better left untold. But as both her alliance with a mystery informant and her strange powers grow, Vee must confront a truth that will make her question her very existence.
Before all hell breaks loose.
Literally.

Week 43 Review: Leopard's Blood
From Goodreads:
#1 New York Times bestselling author Christine Feehan cuts straight to the heart of a man who stalks the shadows in an intoxicating Leopard novel.
Though born into a leopard's lair in the bayou, Joshua Tregre's fighting skills were honed in the rainforests of Borneo. Sleek and deadly, he's the perfect man to take over a crime syndicate back home in Louisiana's lush swamplands. His razor sharp instincts give him an edge in the violent underworld he knows so well, but even the watchful leopard inside him isn't prepared for the danger that comes from the girl next door…
She is a woman who can create beauty out of thin air—and out of the ruins of her own life. The games that dangerous men play have taken their toll on her, but she is bent, not broken. And it's her fierce spirit that's like a lure to Joshua, a temptation he can't resist—even if it means bringing his true nature into the light…
My Review:
Oh, I just loved reading this book! This series is so amazing, and I really enjoy Christine Feehan's writing! Sonia and Joshua were a great couple, and I'm really happy that he got a happy ending, he's been a part of the series for a long time, so yeah, really happy!
We know all about the inserting one of their guys in to be a crime boss plot, it's something since Wild Cat, if I remember correctly. But then Joshua finds his mate, and things go a little wild! Especially since she was raised with a crime family, not that she knew it!
Both of them have had tumultuous pasts-she saw her dad tortured and killed, and then her husband tried to kill her. He had his horrible grandfather and what he did, lost his mom, and has been a part of Drake Securities. A lot of pain between the both of them, but together, a lot of pleasure and fun! Well, not before they had some troubles, like when he told her about the crime stuff and she thought he'd betrayed her. That was pretty intense! I would have had a little more time on the "father tortured in front of her" thing, she mentioned that it happened and one detail and that was it. It'd be a pretty significant thing, and I wish we'd gotten more of it!
The fact that he had a meeting scheduled with her maybe in-laws, that would've been a heck of a thing if it wasn't in a book! The Russian shifters have a horrible view about women, and so glad that Sonia isn't a part of that! Plus, we have a new guy to have a happy ending-Sasha!
I enjoyed this book so much, and I can't wait for more of this series, and more of Christine Feehan's books!

Week 43 Review: Trip's Story
From Goodreads:
I THOUGHT SHE WAS DEAD. BUT NOW SHE'S BACK… WITH MY BABY IN HER ARMS.
I heard her scream as they gunned her down.
I promised I'd get my revenge for her death.
Years later, I'm almost ready to strike.
But then everything changed.
I'm a soldier, a warrior, a stone-cold killer.
It's the only way to survive in this world I’ve chosen…
Kill or be killed.
As VP of the Pride MC, my men depend on me to be ruthless.
I've got reason enough to stoke the fury that burns in my chest:
The murder of my girlfriend years ago.
My enemies took her from me.
They wanted to stop me in my tracks.
But all they did was throw gasoline on my fire.
For years, I've told myself to wait for the right time to make things right.
Death for death, blood for blood.
But then Misha shows up on my doorstep.
And she's not alone…
She's got my baby in her arms.
I'm reeling now, my world turned on its head.
I know only one thing for certain:
I'm about to show her what she's been missing all these years.
TRIP'S BABY is a standalone contemporary bad boy baby heist romance. It features hot sex between consenting adults.
My Review:
This book was another great read! I found the world to be a little off, but other than that, this book had a lot of offer in terms of getting away from your own life for however long you were reading it! Which is really all a reader can ask from a book!
This world of bikers and motorcycle clubs, it can't be as all encompassing as it was in this book right? Like, Misha's dad said that if she chose this life, she was choosing it for her grandkids as well. Or how the law doesn't seem to matter at all, I mean, she was held hostage for 5 years. And how the ladies were thought of as! Not cool, dudes!
I really enjoyed Misha and Trip, they had a passionate relationship as teens, and now that they're parents together, they're a bit more discreet, but that flame is still there. They were a great couple, and totally didn't deserve what happened to them!
Misha had a few secrets about what happened, and why she was with the Jackals instead of dead. When it came out, it made sense what had happened, but it still caused some grief. Then there was Rigger, who should've changed his name to Trigger, who was just awful. Grow up, dude!
I enjoyed this book a lot, it was short and sweet with a really sweet ending!

Week 43 Review: Sworn to Restoration
From Goodreads:
Ciardis has seen the goddess for what she is — a bloodthirsty deity bent on breaking them before eliminating everyone Ciardis knows and loves.
She, the daemoni prince, and Sebastian, the sitting emperor of Algardis, have set a trap. A plan in motion that will unleash a wave of magic across the land in quantities not seen since the Initiate Wars.
Ciardis knows this is their only hope to defeat a god, but she can only pray that she doesn't do the goddess's work in the process by inadvertently killing the citizens of the empire that she had vowed to protect.
But the battle has begun and she'll do what she has to protect the people she cares about – her family, her friends, her empire. When all the gods feel free to intervene, you do what you have to make sure that the one which wants to destroy you never makes the same mistake twice. In a battle between an immortal and a mortal, the humans are coming to win.
My Review:
Oh, man, this book was fantastic! I enjoyed it so much, I've really enjoyed this series, and now that it's almost over, at least, the Courtlight series, there'll still be plenty of stories in the Algaris Universe, it's a bit sad. But it was just so darned enjoyable to read!
There are two very big things in this book-Sebastian truly becomes the Emperor, and they implement their plan they made in Sworn to Quell. Which means, good, they can go ahead with their plan. But also bad, because they brought 4 friends and 1 enemy back to the living, and they are not happy about it!
A few other things went on in this book-like Seven was dealt with, which was great, though it happened offscreen-maybe a short story, because it'd be great to be in Thanar's head! Vana was possibly killed because of the ship, which was also dealt with as well as the dragons. Oh, and the rest of the gods got interested in the triumvirate, which means they lost a few of their needed days, and the strange door that they'll have to investigate soonish!
The ending was just epic, they won the battle, the Loyalists are truly alive and the former emperor apparently dealt with (another short story?) But still the Goddess to deal with! So excited to see how things are going to end for these characters!
I absolutely loved reading this book, and I can't wait for Courtlight #12!

Week 43 Review: Mobster's Baby
From Goodreads:
I'm pregnant with the mobster's baby.
I broke the rules – I slept with a mobster.
One mistake would have been bad enough.
But now that I’m carrying his baby… my whole world is about to come crashing down.
Because the bad boy is coming to claim what’s his.
I've always been a good girl.
I looked the part, acted like it.
The politician's daughter, as prim and proper as they come…
And I f**king hated it.
I was dying to know what it felt like to be free.
To be wild.
To be bad.
So I crossed the tracks and did what I never, ever should have done.
I let Tony Esposito claim me.
He was dark and violent and dangerous – everything I'd been kept far away from since the day I was born.
And my god, it was incredible.
My throat was raw from moaning.
My knees rug-burned and sore.
But I felt alive for the first time in my life.
Only one problem:
My transgression didn't end when he dropped me off.
The mobster left something in me…
And he's coming back to get it.
MOBSTER'S BABY is a standalone contemporary bad boy baby heist romance. It features hot sex between consenting adults.
My Review:
I enjoyed reading this book. It was on the shorter end, about 140 pages, but there was a lot packed into it! This was another guilty pleasure, and a bonus, since yeah, it was so short, and easy to read, the pages just flew!
Like my previous guilty pleasure read, this won't be for everyone. I mean, some girls like a bad boy, but a mobster, that's a bit more then than that. There's also the fact that her dad's a dirty politician with some pretty horrible secrets, like he killed her mom, and oh, yeah, he's not her dad!
Her dad was pretty awful! I mean, it's the 21st century, ladies aren't ostracized for getting pregnant without being married anymore. Sure it's still difficult, but as a family man, well, how are families created? And there's more than one way to have a family!
Both of these characters do mess up. Like, he's set up and overreacts, because that was before he rescued her so it was moot now. She held a press conference without a bodyguard, which allowed her dad to get her again. It all worked out, there was just bumps on the read!
This book was great, and I can't wait to read the other book with it!

Week 43 Review: A Conspiracy of Stars
From Goodreads:
Octavia has only ever had one goal: to follow in the footsteps of her parents and become a prestigious whitecoat, one of the scientists who study the natural wonders of Faloiv. The secrets of the jungle's exotic plants and animals are protected fiercely in the labs by the Council of N'Terra, so when the rules suddenly change, allowing students inside, Octavia should be overjoyed.
But something isn't right. The newly elected leader of the Council has some extremist views about the way he believes N'Terra should be run, and he's influencing others to follow him. When Octavia witnesses one of the Faloii—the indigenous people of Faloiv—attacked in front of her in the dark of night, she knows the Council is hiding something. They are living in separate worlds on a shared planet, and their fragile peace may soon turn into an all-out war.
With the help of Rondo, a quiet boy in class with a skill for hacking, and her inquisitive best friend, Alma, Octavia is set on a collision course to discover the secrets behind the history she's been taught, the science she's lived by, and the truth about her family.
My Review:
I loved reading this book! It just grabbed me, and I had to read more! I really enjoyed reading about Octavia, Rondo and Alma! Their world was so interesting, though the focus on science was a bit much, there has to be a balance!
Octavia is different, though she didn't know it at first. Differences became apparent while society was starting to drown in fear, which means poor decision making! There were also secrets, and a new direction in goals. Which wasn't good for anybody, not they they knew that, or if they did, they didn't care. Well, besides the good guys! But that's that's something that separates good guys from bad guys!
The thing about the bad guys in this book, well, that attitude that of "I'm human, I deserve what I want, and I want more," it's why the Origin Planet, AKA Earth, is no longer hospitable for humans. It's like, haven't we learned, already? So aggravating!
The ending was really heart-pounding! Some pretty awful things were done, like altering the native species to fit our needs, eating meat, which they weren't supposed to do. But yeah, that ending took the cake, and added a milkshake with a cherry on top! Wow! So much potential of where to go from here!
This book was just incredible, and I can't wait for the 2nd book!

Week 43 Review: Honor Among Thieves
From Goodreads:
Meet your new favorite kickass heroine in this daring YA series by New York Times bestselling authors Rachel Caine and Ann Aguirre, a thrilling yet romantic futuristic adventure perfect for fans of Claudia Gray's A Thousand Pieces of You.
Petty criminal Zara Cole has a painful past that's made her stronger than most, which is why she chose life in New Detroit instead moving with her family to Mars. In her eyes, living inside a dome isn't much better than a prison cell.
Still, when Zara commits a crime that has her running scared, jail might be exactly where she's headed. Instead Zara is recruited into the Honors, an elite team of humans selected by the Leviathan—a race of sentient alien ships—to explore the outer reaches of the universe as their passengers.
Zara seizes the chance to flee Earth's dangers, but when she meets Nadim, the alien ship she's assigned, Zara starts to feel at home for the first time. But nothing could have prepared her for the dark, ominous truths that lurk behind the alluring glitter of starlight.
My Review:
Oh, man, I devoured this book! It was so interesting, and Zara was a fantastic lead! I wasn't planning on reading this book when I did, and then I started it and couldn't put it down! I finished this book in the wee hours of the morning, and I don't regret it!
One of the cool things that I wanted to mention about this book, was that each of the chapters was named, "breaking" something, like out, up, free, and it signified a bit of the journey Zara would go on in that chapter, figuratively or literally. So awesome!
Everything about this book, I loved. Zara's past with her headaches and her religious dad. The guy whose daughter she stole from and how he wanted revenge. The brief interludes where Nadim narrated! Bea and Typhon and the others! Just so freaking captivating!
The bond between Zara and Nadim was deep, and unexpected! Zadim for the win! It did provide some complications, because Nadim wasn't supposed to bond like that until he'd grown old enough to go on the Journey. Ah, well, what doesn't kill you!
That ending was just epic! The fighting was intense since the bad guys have been fighting with the Leviathan for who knows how long and it's easy to see. All the other threats, they don't matter, all the focus will be on this!
Such an amazing, wonderful book, and I can't wait for the next one! So excited!

Week 43 Review: A Treacherous Curse
From Goodreads:
Members of an Egyptian expedition fall victim to an ancient mummy's curse in a thrilling Veronica Speedwell novel from the New York Times bestselling author of the Lady Julia Grey mysteries.
London, 1888. As colorful and unfettered as the butterflies she collects, Victorian adventuress Veronica Speedwell can't resist the allure of an exotic mystery—particularly one involving her enigmatic colleague, Stoker. His former expedition partner has vanished from an archaeological dig with a priceless diadem unearthed from the newly discovered tomb of an Egyptian princess. This disappearance is just the latest in a string of unfortunate events that have plagued the controversial expedition, and rumors abound that the curse of the vengeful princess has been unleashed as the shadowy figure of Anubis himself stalks the streets of London.
But the perils of an ancient curse are not the only challenges Veronica must face as sordid details and malevolent enemies emerge from Stoker's past. Caught in a tangle of conspiracies and threats—and thrust into the public eye by an enterprising new foe—Veronica must separate facts from fantasy to unravel a web of duplicity that threatens to cost Stoker everything. . .
My Review:
This book was so fantastic! These past two mysteries dealt with Veronica, and her family. This book, the focus was more on Stoker, given that it's his ex-wife and ex-friend who are part of the mystery, so that story fully comes out in this book!
I've read other books with an Egyptology slant to them. Add to that all the wonderful things I love about this series, and this book was so intriguing! I loved the mystery, and meeting these characters, the Tivertons, and the others! So interesting!
Since Stoker was a suspect, more in the way that he was the only enemy of John de Morgan, rather than they actually thought he killed him, well, that was an interesting complication! There were a ew moving parts, and I loved how they all came together, it was just so great!
One thing that I absolutely loved about this book, were the lines that Veronica used against Caroline, they were real zingers! And Caroline unequivocally deserved them! Some weren't used against Caroline, but against her opinions, and that was just great, like that last one! A bit chilling, and so awesome! Oh, plus, the Curiosity Club! Loved the developments there!
This book was, in its entirety, amazing! I just loved reading it! Can't wait for the next book!

"The woman's face might be beautiful, but it was also the stuff of nightmares. And Jane MacGuire just wanted it to go away. She jerked upright in bed, her heart pounding. She closed her eyes, her hands clenched into fists. She wouldn't do it. Not again. There wouldn't be any change from the last time. And if there was a change, what could she do about it? It was only a nightmare." -Mind Game by Iris Johansen
Well, that doesn't sound good, but it does sound mysterious and intriguing! Must read more! What about you guys? Happy reading!

Third Sentence Thursday #324, October 26th
Third Sentence Thursday is a weekly meme which likes to watch fireworks especially while eating a cookie!
1) Take the book you are currently reading and open it to a random page. Share the third full sentence on that page. Feel free to share more than one sentence, if you feel the need to do so.
2) Review this sentence anyway you want (funny and silly reviews encouraged)
3) Post a link to your sentence at Words I Write Crazy (This Blog)
4) Visit one or two of the other blogs to check out their third sentences!

Romeo and Juliet meets Children of the Corn in this one-of-a-kind romantic horror.
“When you fall in love, you will carve out your heart and throw it into the deepest ocean. You will be all in—blood and salt.”
These are the last words Ash Larkin hears before her mother returns to the spiritual commune she escaped long ago. But when Ash follows her to Quivira, Kansas, something sinister and ancient waits among the rustling cornstalks of this village lost to time.
Ash is plagued by memories of her ancestor, Katia, which harken back to the town’s history of unrequited love and murder, alchemy and immortality. Charming traditions soon give way to a string of gruesome deaths, and Ash feels drawn to Dane, a forbidden boy with secrets of his own.
As the community prepares for a ceremony five hundred years in the making, Ash must fight not only to save her mother, but herself—and discover the truth about Quivira before it’s too late. Before she’s all in—blood and salt.

Poison's Cage by Breeana Shields
Expected Publication: January 16th, 2018
From Goodreads:
An assassin becomes a spy in this heart-pounding sequel to Poison's Kiss. Readers who love the assassin angle in Throne of Glass, the lethal touch in Shatter Me, or the high stakes of The Wrath and the Dawn will want to follow this story to the end.
A single kiss could kill. A single secret could save the kingdom.
Iyla and Marinda have killed many men together: Iyla as the seductress, Marinda as the final, poisonous kiss. Now they understand who the real enemy is—the Snake King—and together they can take him down. Both girls have felt as though they were living a lie in the past, so moving into the King's palace and pretending to serve him isn't as difficult as it sounds. But when you're a spy, even secrets between friends are dangerous. And each girl has something—or someone—to lose. Does every secret, every lie, bring them closer to the truth or . . . to a trap?
In Poison's Kiss, Marinda pulled a dangerous thread. In this sequel, it unravels to a heart-pounding conclusion.
Oh, I just read A Treacherous Curse, and it was so great, and I can't wait for these two books to come out! So excited! What about you guys? Happy reading!

This disappearance is just the latest in a string of unfortunate events that have plagued the controversial expedition, and rumors abound that the curse of the vengeful princess has been unleashed as the shadowy figure of Anubis himself stalks the streets of London.
But the perils of an ancient curse are not the only challenges Veronica must face as sordid details and malevolent enemies emerge from Stoker’s past. Caught in a tangle of conspiracies and threats—and thrust into the public eye by an enterprising new foe—Veronica must separate facts from fantasy to unravel a web of duplicity that threatens to cost Stoker everything. . .
