The Reward Challenge is almost the complete opposite to a book buying ban as you'll end up buying lots of new books throughout the challenge but only after you've completed a certain amount of reading. It was hosted by Good Golly Miss Holly, so thanks to her for starting it!
OK, so I already had 63 counts, and I read The Alpha Alternative which counts twice as a Prequel & Sequel Challenge 2014 Book, Darkfever which counts twice as a Prequel & Sequel Challenge 2014 Book, Beyond the Highland Mist which counts 4 times as a Historical Fiction 2014 Book, Prequel & Sequel Challenge 2014 Book and a Reward Challenge Book, The Undead Pool which counts 3 times as a Prequel & Sequel Challenge 2014 Book and a WoW Book, Legacy which counts 3 times as a Historical Fiction 2014 Book and Prequel & Sequel Challenge 2014 Book, Allegiance which counts 3 times as a Historical Fiction 2014 Book and Prequel & Sequel Challenge 2014 Book. So I have 80 counts total for next week.

"The hall was empty except for a cloaked figure who stood motionless upon a black marble dais. He waited, watching the doors at the far end with eyes as bright as emeralds and as threatening as livid clouds on the horizon."-Allegiance by Cayla Kluver
Yeah, that is just a little bit scary! But I need to reread more! What about you guys? Happy reading!

Q: Change the Plot. If you could, what book would you change the ending or a plot thread? Go ahead and do it...change it.
A: Off the top of my head? I can't think of anything. Probably if I thought, but not right now! What about you guys? Happy reading!

Random Reads #118, February 27th
Random Reads is a monthly meme (that I'm going to do weekly) hosted by I'm Loving Books to read some books that have been on our TBR piles for a long time. Using Random.org, I got 2242 which turned out to be This is Not a Drill by Beck McDowell! It's been on my TBR pile since January 7th 2012, and I added it because it sounded really fantastic! Happy reading!
Third Sentence Thursday #133, February 27th
Third Sentence Thursday is a weekly meme which likes to watch fireworks especially while eating a cookie!
1) Take the book you are currently reading and open it to a random page. Share the third full sentence on that page. (If there isn't a third one – like at the end of a chapter or a blank page – you can share the third sentence of the book or just choose another random page.) Feel free to share more than one sentence, if you feel the need to do so.
2) Review this sentence anyway you want (funny and silly reviews encouraged)
3) Post a link to your sentence at Words I Write Crazy (This Blog)
4) Visit one or two of the other blogs to check out their third sentences!
"But I expect you to use the time wisely." -Legacy by Cayla Kluver, page 298.
Yeah, but shouldn't that kinda be expected almost all the time, seeing as she's a princess and all?
What are your guy's 3rd lines? Link up below!

The resulting media firestorm quickly ensnares television reporter Cassidy Shaw, Federal Prosecutor Allison Pierce, and FBI Special Agent Nicole Hedges. Together, these life-long friends call themselves The Triple Threat--a nickname derived from their favorite dessert as well as their uncanny ability to crack cases from their three unique positions of power.

Waiting on Wednesday #147, February 26th
"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating!
The Immortal Crown by Richelle Mead
Expected Publication: May 29th, 2014
From Goodreads:
Gameboard of the Gods introduced religious investigator Justin March and Mae Koskinen, the beautiful supersoldier assigned to protect him. Together they have been charged with investigating reports of the supernatural and the return of the gods, both inside the Republic of United North America and out. With this highly classified knowledge comes a shocking revelation: Not only are the gods vying for human control, but the elect—special humans marked by the divine—are turning against one another in bloody fashion.
Their mission takes a new twist when they are assigned to a diplomatic delegation headed by Lucian Darling, Justin’s old friend and rival, going into Arcadia, the RUNA’s dangerous neighboring country. Here, in a society where women are commodities and religion is intertwined with government, Justin discovers powerful forces at work, even as he struggles to come to terms with his own reluctantly acquired deity.
Meanwhile, Mae—grudgingly posing as Justin’s concubine—has a secret mission of her own: finding the illegitimate niece her family smuggled away years ago. But with Justin and Mae resisting the resurgence of the gods in Arcadia, a reporter’s connection with someone close to Justin back home threatens to expose their mission—and with it the divine forces the government is determined to keep secret.
I can't wait for this book! It looks amazing, sounds amazing, and it's by the amazing Richelle Mead! I can't wait for this book! What about you guys? Happy reading!

Teaser Tuesday #150, February 25th
Teaser Tuesday is a weekly bookish meme, hosted by MizB of Should Be Reading. Anyone can play along! Just do the following:
•Grab your current read
•Open to a random page
•Share two (2) "teaser" sentences from somewhere on that page
•BE CAREFUL NOT TO INCLUDE SPOILERS! (make sure that what you share doesn't give too much away! You don't want to ruin the book for others!)
•Share the title & author, too, so that other TT participants can add the book to their TBR Lists if they like your teasers!
Today's teaser comes from The Undead Pool by Kim Harrison, page 438.
"Listen, more said, and in desperation, I finally did. My breath hissed in as I suddenly understood."
That hopefully is a good thing, because understanding is knowledge, and knowledge is power! What about you guys? Happy reading!

OK, so I got 20 posts in 7 days, and yeah, can't wait for more! The Undead Pool comes out this week, hope to read it this week! What about you guys? Happy reading!

Bonus sex scene from Barrons' POV found on Karen Marie Moning's website.
He would sell his warrior soul to possess her. . . .
An alluring laird...
He was known throughout the kingdom as Hawk, legendary predator of the battlefield and the boudoir. No woman could refuse his touch, but no woman ever stirred his heart—until a vengeful fairy tumbled Adrienne de Simone out of modern-day Seattle and into medieval Scotland. Captive in a century not her own, entirely too bold, too outspoken, she was an irresistible challenge to the sixteenth-century rogue. Coerced into a marriage with Hawk, Adrienne vowed to keep him at arm's length—but his sweet seduction played havoc with her resolve.
A prisoner in time...
She had a perfect "no" on her perfect lips for the notorious laird, but Hawk swore she would whisper his name with desire, begging for the passion he longed to ignite within her. Not even the barriers of time and space would keep him from winning her love. Despite her uncertainty about following the promptings of her own passionate heart, Adrienne's reservations were no match for Hawk's determination to keep her by his side. . .
Witch and day-walking demon Rachel Morgan has managed to save the demonic ever after from shrinking, but at a high cost. Now strange magic is attacking Cincinnati and the Hollows, causing spells to backfire or go horribly wrong, and the truce between the races, between Inderlander and human, is shattering.
Rachel must stop the occurrences before the undead vampire masters who keep the rest of the undead under control are lost and it becomes all-out supernatural war. However, the only way to do so is through the ancient elven wild magic, which carries its own perils.

Week 8 Review: Wicked Nights
From Goodreads:
Leader of the most powerful army in the heavens, Zacharel has been deemed nearly too dangerous, too ruthless--and if he isn't careful, he'll lose his wings. But this warrior with a heart of ice will not be deterred from his missions at any cost...until a vulnerable human tempts him with a carnal pleasure he's never known before.
Accused of a crime she did not commit, Annabelle Miller has spent four years in an institution for the criminally insane. Demons track her every move, and their king will stop at nothing to have her. Zacharel is her only hope for survival, but is the brutal angel with a touch as hot as hell her salvation--or her ultimate damnation?
My first review of Wicked Nights
My Review:
Oh, how can I count the ways that I love this book? I don't think I can, but I'll try, because man, did I love it! I mean, it's a spin off of the Lords of the Underworld series, it's by Gena Showalter, so of course, it's going to be amazing and epic, so of course it was, and man, what a page turner, because, yeah, that's what it is!!!
I loved the characters, how strong they both where, Annabelle being accused of her parent's murder, and Zacharel having to kill his brother, because it was a kindness compared to him living, and yeah, that was so sad, and then it plays a big role in it, because his brother, he didn't die, he became the demon Unforgiveness, the one that had Annabelle's parents killed.
And that's why Annabelle has a demon aspect-Unforgiveness forced one on her. But that's why she has an angelic aspect, because she was given what Zacharel has of his brother when he was an angel. Yeah. It was complicated in that aspect. But so good!
I loved how they slowly got used to each other, how they fell in love, and the back and forth with the snow in his wings, until finally, it stopped, and he became a leader of one of the 7 armies, and he became an elite. Which was pretty bad ass!!
Yeah, I loved this book, it was so good, and yeah, loved rereading it, and can't wait to reread Beauty Awakened!!!

Week 8 Review: My Life With the Walter Boys
From Goodreads:
Sixteen-year old Jackie Howard knows nothing about her new guardian Katherine Walter when she moves from New York to Colorado. After discovering that Katherine has twelve boys, Jackie fears that living in the Walter house isn't going to be easy. It's just icing on the cake that the boys look like Abercrombie models...
My Review:
Oh, wow, this was such a fantastic book! Funny, light, with great characters, and a big complication-2 of those Walter boys are romantic interests. And while the Walter boys (and one tomboy) where hard to place at first, and then matching their interests to what they actually did, I figured out enough by the middle.
I loved all the characters, because they were real, and Jackie just had her whole family die, and since he was rich, well, it was on the news a lot, and since she didn't have any surviving relatives who could have her stay with them, she's sent to her mom's friend, Katherine Walter. Who has the 12 Walter boys!
This family was real, complicated, their traditions (like the party, the camping) and they are pretty crowded, even with the eldest brother moved out, and getting married. Speaking of, that was pretty awesome, when Jackie took charge of the wedding stuff when Katherine was panicking the day of. It was epic!
I think my most favourite scene, was either the take the clothing and see what she (Jackie) would do dare, or the first supper, where it was a series of accidents, that was pretty hilarious! Because yeah, that was what kind of book this was!
And the ending, with the mural? With Jackie part of the family? That was so sweet, and I just loved it to bits, and it just added the sweet note to her leaving for the summer to go back to New York, and leaving most of the Walter boys there.
I just loved this book, and I can't wait for the 2nd book to be edited and reposted fully on Wattpad!!

Week 8 Review: Bad Attitude
From Goodreads:
BAD agent Sydney Westbrook must find the perfect sniper for a risky counter-terrorism mission. J.D. Steele, a military sniper whose attitude problem landed him in prison, seems a good candidate. But as they're dragged into a secret world of freelance killers, Sydney begins to discover the man of honor and passion beneath Steele's arrogant façade. It's a man even Steele didn't know he could be -- and a man whose mission will risk the life of the only woman he's ever loved...
My Review:
Oh, this was such an fantastic book! From the bad guys, and how they work out, to the characters, and how funny they could be, to yeah, the idea behind the book, take a guy from prison, and use him as bait to take down the bad guy!
I loved rereading this book, because it's been forever since I read it, since before 2011, at least, since hat's when I started using Goodreads. And it was just hilarious, like his pick up lines, he's been in prison since he shot at the guy who's bad orders, that he wasn't supposed to do, got his friend killed, and then the guy was going to blame his friend, so why shouldn't he shoot him? And yeah, those lines were just so bad!
I loved Jack, and his dog, and how paranoid he was, and how much truth that there was in that, because yeah, he did know more then the average citizen, working for those that cause the paranoia! And yeah, Jack was just so freaking funny, and I wish we'd gotten to say goodbye to him and his dog, because we didn't get a chance to, and he's not in future books, which is a shame, because he was awesome!
I loved how the shooter that they were looking for, turned out to be his sister, though he thought it was his dad for a bit, because of the name. And that her hits were of people who actually should've been assassinated, that was pretty good.
Oh, and I loved his proposal, and how he went about that, because that was just really good! I mean, the doorbells, and how she had to go to the door so many times, that was just really great, and yeah, that was a sweet, wonderful ending!
I loved this book, can't wait to reread more of this series!

Week 8 Review: Trial by Fire
From Goodreads:
There can only be one alpha.
Bryn is finally settling into her position as alpha of the Cedar Ridge Pack—or at least, her own version of what it means to be alpha when you're a human leading a band of werewolves. Then she finds a teenage boy bleeding on her front porch. Before collapsing, he tells her his name is Lucas, he's a Were, and Bryn's protection is his only hope.
But Lucas isn't part of Bryn's pack, and she has no right to claim another alpha's Were. With threats—old and new—looming, and danger closing in from all sides, Bryn will have to accept what her guardian Callum knew all along. To be alpha, she will have to give in to her own animal instincts and become less human. And, she's going to have to do it alone.
Bryn faces both the costs, and the rewards, of love and loyalty, in this thrilling sequel to Raised by Wolves.
My first review of Trial by Fire
My Review:
Oh, this book broke my heart a little, not as bad as Taken by Storm did and will, but I mean, she has to kill the guy that Maddy likes, Lucas, and she does it using her Resilience, and the fact that she was an alpha, and had the pack's strength, and she sent him to slept and die. So that breaks, and that leads to Taken by Storm.
Loved how we got more of this world, of people with gifts besides resilience, and has to fight that, and yeah, that was really interesting, how that was connected to Ali, and how Caroline was connected to Ali-they were sisters, and their mother, was the main threat that they faced, the one that they could put a face and a name to for the other packs, but the guiding hand was Shay, mister evil!!!
Loved Caroline's talent, to be a perfect hunter, to not be able to be tracked by scent, and to have perfect aim, and how she was feared by the rest of the group, because her mom told her too. Yeah, her mom was evil. But there was Jed, and he helped, because he was like Byrn, human, and Resilient, and recognizant of the fact.
Then there was just the great cast of characters, in the inner gang of Byrn's, her friends, Devon and Lake, and Chase, and yeah, how they were all connected by the pack, in each others minds, so they could talk, and yeah, that was just really great!
I loved this book, and loved rereading it, and I can't wait to reread Taken by Storm!!!

Week 8 Review: Phoenix Island
From Goodreads:
The judge told Carl that one day he'd have to decide exactly what kind of person he would become. But on Phoenix Island, the choice will be made for him.
A champion boxer with a sharp hook and a short temper, sixteen-year-old Carl Freeman has been shuffled from foster home to foster home. He can't seem to stay out of trouble, using his fists to defend weaker classmates from bullies. His latest incident sends his opponent to the emergency room, and now the court is sending Carl to the worst place on earth: Phoenix Island.
Classified as a terminal facility, it's the end of the line for delinquents who have no home, no family, and no future. Located somewhere far off the coast of the United States and immune to its laws, the island is a grueling Spartan-style boot camp run by sadistic drill sergeants who show no mercy to their young, orphan trainees. Sentenced to stay until his eighteenth birthday, Carl plans to play by the rules, so he makes friends with his wisecracking bunkmate, Ross, and a mysterious gray-eyed girl named Octavia. But he makes enemies, too, and after a few rough scrapes, he earns himself the nickname "Hollywood" as well as a string of punishments, including a brutal night in the sweatbox. But that's nothing compared to what awaits him in the Chop Shop: a secret government lab where Carl is given something he never dreamed of.
A new life. . . .
A new body. A new brain.
Gifts from the fatherly Old Man, who wants to transform Carl into something he's not sure he wants to become.
For this is no ordinary government project. Phoenix Island is ground zero for the future of combat intelligence.
And for Carl, it's just the beginning. . .
My Review:
Oh, this was such a great book! Plus the fact that it was the inspiration behind the TV show Intelligence, yeah, that just proves that it needs to be read, because yeah, it does, and yeah, I absolutely loved it!!!
So the beginning, was pretty creepy, well the whole book was creepy, but the beginning's creepiness, with the training, and then the pages that Carl finds, about a previous group, and then how bad things got? That was just more and more creepy!
The reason why Carl started fighting? Because his dad, a cop, was injured on the job, and was outside, and people started calling him names. So Carl started defending him with his fists. People can be just cruel, and yeah, it's not always an easy life for anybody, really, and they push their pain on others, and it gets put into a path of verbal abuse, to one person to the next, and it never stops unless someone intercedes, because people, are people, and that's a sad thought.
I loved the romance, how it slowly developed, was hindered by the fact that he found out why she was there, and there was some judging looks all around! But then the big fight scene, near the end of the middle, with the main bad till that point, and some of the others, have a fight with Carl, and he wins against a taser and a knife, and yeah, then he meets Old Man. And so he meets the new bad.
That's when he gets some upgrades, and his body moves better, and he learns more about the purpose of the Island, and yeah, it's not pretty, and it could be considered that the idea was corrupted, but it was that from the start, so yeah. And then things happen, and he gets the chip in his head, that goes over well, and then there's a lot of fighting, and then it ends, with a bit of hope, because she's going back to the US, and he's got a bit of an advantage, and I hope that he get's a chance to take it!
Loved this book, and I cannot wait for the sequel, that I know is going to happen!!!

Week 8 Review: Dreamless
From Goodreads:
Can true love be forgotten?
As the only scion who can descend into the Underworld, Helen Hamilton has been given a nearly impossible task. By night she wanders through Hades, trying to stop the endless cycle of revenge that has cursed her family. By day she struggles to overcome the fatigue that is rapidly eroding her sanity. Without Lucas by her side, Helen is not sure she has the strength to go on.
Just as Helen is pushed to her breaking point, a mysterious new Scion comes to her rescue. Funny and brave, Orion shields her from the dangers of the Underworld. But time is running out. A ruthless foe plots against them, and the Furies' cry for blood is growing louder.
As the ancient Greek world collides with the mortal one, Helen's sheltered life on Nantucket descends into chaos. But the hardest task of all will be forgetting Lucas Delos.
Josephine Angelini's compelling saga becomes ever more intricate and spellbinding as an unforgettable love triangle emerges and the eternal cycle of revenge intensifies. Eagerly awaited, this sequel to the internationally bestselling Starcrossed delivers a gritty, action-packed love story that exceeds all expectations.
My first review of Dreamless
My Review:
Oh, loved rereading this book, getting to see the characters again, getting to angst over the fact that Helen and Lucas can't be together, because that they're cousins, yet we know that they're not, because he died 2 years before Helen was born, so he couldn't possibly be her father. Yeah.
And then there was Orion, new, and who's had a hard life, and is head of one house, and heir to the other, with a mom who killed her brother to protect her son-and they look alike. And then his dad, well, yeah, they have issues with each other. So Orion's had it pretty tough, and Daphne was pretty much the only one who could help him. But it's Daphne so we know not to trust her. But for Orion, that's about all he has, so it sucks for him.
We learn a lot, a lot happens, like Helen and Orion try water from the river that brings happiness, but then that wears off, and it turns out the one that they needed was the river of forgetting, and that works, and then suddenly, the furies aren't trying to avenge deaths and then avenge the deaths caused by the avenging, a hateful cycle.
And that Helen doesn't ask Cassandra as the Oracle about whether or not she should free the furies, because yeah, that's why the ending happened, and how her, Lucas, and Orion become blood brothers, well, bringing the 4 houses into 1, and that should bring them closer to raising Atlantis, but not really.
Yeah, I loved this book, and I can't wait to reread Goddess, because it's so freaking good, just like this one!!!

Week 8 Review: The Girl in the Clockwork Collar
From Goodreads:
In New York City, 1897, life has never been more thrilling - or dangerous.
Sixteen-year-old Finley Jayne and her "straynge band of mysfits" have journeyed from London to America to rescue their friend Jasper, hauled off by bounty hunters. But Jasper is in the clutches of a devious former friend demanding a trade-the dangerous device Jasper stole from him...for the life of the girl Jasper loves.
One false move from Jasper and the strange clockwork collar around Mei's neck tightens. And tightens.
My first review of The Girl in the Clockwork Collar
My Review:
Loved rereading this book! It was so good, and yeah, it was Mei with the title and the cover, but Jasper plays a huge role in it, seeing as he was in love with Mei, once upon a time, and there was a chance at the romance-but Mei wasn't what she seemed. She was basically evil, at least, working for the evil.
We got to meet Tesla, and that was pretty cool, though he was pretty insane, the machine he built, for a person to die, to see the other side, and then be brought back. Yeah, that's just something that shouldn't happen!
I loved Finley and Mei's fight, and how we first really see the true face of Mei there, and yeah, that was a pretty awesome scene, we got to see Finley kick some butt! Another scene where that happened was when Finley and Jasper had a scene where they fight some of Wildcat's gang, for them to gain entry for a meeting with Wildcat.
And while the ending, was bittersweet with Mei dying because she was too slow, and Griffin turned off the machine. And yeah, then Jasper has to take the body back, and yeah, that's not fun, but it happened, and yeah, they have to deal with it.
Yeah, this was a pretty spectacular book, and I can't wait for the next one!!!

Week 8 Reviews: First Drop of Crimson, Eternal Kiss of Darkness
From Goodreads:
The night is not safe for mortals. Denise MacGregor knows all too well what lurks in the shadows--her best friend is half-vampire Cat Crawfield--and she has already lost more than the average human could bear. But her family's past is wrapped in secrets and shrouded in darkness--and a demon shapeshifter has marked Denise as prey. Now her survival depends on an immortal who lusts for a taste of her.
He is Spade, a powerful, mysterious vampire who has walked the earth for centuries and is now duty-bound to protect this endangered, alluring human--even if it means destroying his own kind. Denise may arouse his deepest hungers, but Spade knows he must fight his urge to have her as they face the nightmare together . . .
Because once the first crimson drop falls, they will both be lost.
From Goodreads:
An immortal war has been brewing in the darkness . . . And now one woman has stumbled into the shadows.
Chicago private investigator Kira Graceling should have just kept on walking. But her sense of duty refused to let her ignore the moans of pain coming from inside a warehouse just before dawn. Suddenly she finds herself in a world she's only imagined in her worst nightmares.
At the center is Mencheres, a breathtaking Master vampire who thought he'd seen it all. Then Kira appears, this fearless, beautiful . . . human who braved death to rescue him. Though he burns for her, keeping Kira in his world means risking her life. Yet sending her away is unthinkable.
But with danger closing in, Mencheres must choose either the woman he craves, or embracing the darkest magic to defeat an enemy bent on his eternal destruction.
My first review of First Drop of Crimson, Eternal Kiss of Darkness
My Review:
Oh, loved rereading these books! They were so good, and I know what's going to happen next, but I still wanted to go on the journey to get there, because these books, yeah, it was an incredible journey, we got to be with these characters, and yeah, like, what more could you ask?
Loved these characters, because they've been in the main Night Huntress series a few times, and they added something when they were there, they were friends, and family, and while Kira is a stranger until her book, yeah, she was spectacular!
Loved the bad guys, a demon, which is a species that wasn't really mentioned all that often, just once or twice, and this was the first mention, really, being a big bad, and yeah, I really enjoyed that, because hello, learning more about this world? Sign me up!!!
Then the uncle of Mencheres, and yeah, I enjoyed that, getting to know his family, and how things were done there, because yeah, it didn't quite make sense to me, shouldn't it be, father is made vampire after he becomes a father, once his son has a wife, and a son, then he becomes a vampire and rules, vs the impression I got was, guy becomes vampire, then his wife's son becomes the next vampire ruler, and yeah, that didn't make much sense to me, so I hope that it's the former!
Yeah, I really enjoyed these books, and yeah, can't wait to reread more!!!!
