Random Reads #101, October 31st

Random Reads is a monthly meme (that I'm going to do weekly) hosted by I'm Loving Books to read some books that have been on our TBR piles for a long time. Using Random.org, I got 1356 which turned out to be Want to Go Private? by Sarah Darer Littman! It's been on my TBR pile since August 9th 2011, and I added it because it sounded really great! Happy reading!

Secrets of the sea have never been sexier than this.

Ever since the death of her parents, Miranda has lived on Whym Island, taking comfort in the local folklore, which claims a mysterious sea witch controls the fate of all on the island and in its surrounding waters. Sometimes it’s just easier to believe things are out of your control.

But then a terrible boating accident takes the lives of several of her friends, and Miranda is rescued by a mysterious boy who haunts her dreams. Consumed by guilt from the accident, she finds refuge in late-night swims—and meets Christian, a boy who seems eerily familiar, but who is full of mystery: He won’t tell her where he is from, or why they can only meet at the beach. But Miranda falls for him anyway…and discovers that Christian’s secrets, though meant to protect her, may bring her nothing but harm.

Seductive and compelling, Wrecked brings a contemporary, paranormal twist to a classic enchanting tale.

Why the time hasn't come yet...

Sarcastic, privileged Michael has a knack for reading emotions, which he uses to get inside Cassie’s head—and under her skin. Brooding Dean shares Cassie’s gift for profiling, but keeps her at arm’s length.

Soon, it becomes clear that no one in the Naturals program is what they seem. And when a new killer strikes, danger looms closer than Cassie could ever have imagined. Caught in a lethal game of cat and mouse with a killer, the Naturals are going to have to use all of their gifts just to survive.

The war against BioZenith is on.

Since she first came into her mysterious new superpowers, Emily has watched one of her packmates disappear through an interdimensional portal; she’s been hunted by creepy, body-snatching Shadowmen; she’s managed to form an alliance with the same telekinetic cheerleaders who once tried to take her down; and she’s discovered that her believed-to-be-dead mother is one of the BioZenith scientists responsible for her strange abilities.

Now it’s up to the Deviants to put together the last pieces of the puzzle, which includes tracking down the final, mystery member of their kind and forcing their parents to reveal why they mutated their own children. Emily fears the answer is far more sinister than anyone ever thought: after all, why would a parent risk a child’s life unless the stakes were high…scary, world-ending high?

Tired of being at the mercy of adult conspiracies, Emily forms a plan with the other Deviants: Destroy BioZenith before anyone can use the knowledge within the facility to aid the Shadowmen. But that’s only if BioZenith—or something worse—doesn’t capture them first.

Things aren't pretty for Emerson Watts.

Em was sure there couldn't be anything worse than being a brainiac the body of a teenaged supermodel.

But it turned out she was wrong. Because that supermodel could turn out to have a mother who's gone mysteriously missing, a brother who's shown up on her doorstep demanding answers, a former best friend who's intent on destroying Stark Enterprises to avenge the death of his lost love, and a British heartthrob who's written a song about her that's topping the charts.

How can Em balance all that with school, runway shows, and weekend jaunts to St. Johns — especially when she's got ex-boyfriends crawling out of the woodwork who want more than just a photo op; a sister who is headed to the high school cheerleading championships; a company she represents that seems to be turning to the dark side...

Not to mention trying to convince the love of her life that models aren't really airheads after all...especially one model in particular.

But then, nobody said it was going to be easy being Nikki.

Week 43 Reviews: Unleashed, Hot Blooded

Katelyn McBride's life changed in an instant when her mother died. Uprooted from her California home, Katelyn was shipped to the middle of nowhere, Arkansas, to her only living relative, her grandfather. And now she has to start over in Wolf Springs, a tiny village in the Ozark Mountains. Like any small town, Wolf Springs has secrets. But the secrets hidden here are more sinister than Katelyn could ever imagine. It's a town with a history that reaches back centuries, spans continents, and conceals terrifying truths. And Katelyn McBride is about to change everything.

Broken families, ageless grudges, forced alliances, and love that blooms in the darkest night—welcome to Wolf Springs.

From Goodreads:
"What do you run from?"

Katelyn had only been in Wolf Springs a short time before she was bitten by a werewolf. And now she carries that creature's curse in her veins.

But she's not alone. Wolf Springs is home to a hidden family of werewolves, the Fenners - except they swear none of them bit her. Apparently there's a monster on the loose - something wild and uncontrollable.

And to make matters worse, Katelyn's struggling to resist her own animal urges. Especially around Trick and Justin. Should she follow her heart - or her instincts?

My first review of Unleashed
My Review:
I enjoyed reading both of these so much! They were so good, and entertaining, and I just loved the mystery and the characters and the world, and I can't wait for the 3rd and final book! It's going to be so good, I just know it!

So I knew/remembered a good deal of what happened in Unleashed, and yeah, just going over that again was just really great! From the creepiness of the town, and then her being bitten, and all the resulting events, yeah, it was a pretty great opener!

Then Hot Blooded! Wow! We learned a lot about the wolves, about her grandfather, about Trick, and these were things that I wanted to know! It was a really great middle book, no info dumping, but not too much or too little action, just a really nice balance!

She decided who held her heart! And the Fenner's were wary around her, but used her, and yeah, that was a pretty tense situation in the end! And a few people are dead now, which is not going to be fun! And the one that bit her is coming after her!

I just want more! I really enjoyed both, and that was such an ending that I want to know what happens next!

Week 43 Review: Mind Game

From Goodreads:
Dahlia LeBlanc's gifts are also a curse, making it impossible for her to be around others without hurting them. But can she trust her secrets to Nicolas Trevane, a Shadow warrior sent to find her?

My Review:
This book will always have a very special place in my heart, as the first Christine Feehan book that I ever read-and owned-the one that got me hooked on her writing! And yeah, it's just too bad that I don't have my copy right now-I loaned it to a friend-6 years ago. So I'm probably not going to get it back!

I loved her gifts, and how they worked, the whole thing with energy and what she can do with it, it was pretty darned cool! Though the side effects, not so much! But they dealt with them, mostly! And that her gifts help Nicolas with healing? Bonus!

This book introduced Jack and Ken, the twins who are the heroes of Conspiracy Game and Deadly Game, respectively, which was really nice, to see them from the outside, because we kinda do in Predatory Game, but this was their introduction, so it's different, and important!

And that ending? With Dahlia and Lily meeting for the first time since they were children? That was just so touching, and it was just such a great ending to the book! It was the perfect note to end their personal story, to leave threads for the next book, and yeah, just perfect!

I loved this book so much, and yeah, can't wait to reread more!
