Week 29 Review: The Dead Travel Fast

From Goodreads:
A husband, a family, a comfortable life: Theodora Lestrange lives in terror of it all. With a modest inheritance and the three gowns that comprise her entire wardrobe, Theodora leaves Edinburgh--and a disappointed suitor--far behind. She is bound for Rumania, where tales of vampires are still whispered, to visit an old friend and write the book that will bring her true independence.

She arrives at a magnificent, decaying castle in the Carpathians, replete with eccentric inhabitants: the ailing dowager; the troubled steward; her own fearful friend, Cosmina. But all are outstripped in dark glamour by the castle's master, Count Andrei Dragulescu.

Bewildering and bewitching in equal measure, the brooding nobleman ignites Theodora's imagination and awakens passions in her that she can neither deny nor conceal. His allure is superlative, his dominion over the superstitious town, absolute--Theodora may simply be one more person under his sway.

Before her sojourn is ended--or her novel completed--Theodora will have encountered things as strange and terrible as they are seductive. For obsession can prove fatal...and she is in danger of falling prey to more than desire.

My first review of The Dead Travel Fast
My Review:
This was an incredible book to reread! It was just so atmospheric, chilling, and that wondering in the back of your head, is it a paranormal, or is it just a historical book? Because we don't get those answers, so it's up to each reader to decide.

Me, half the time I think it's a paranormal, half I think it's just ordinary, because either way, it's an excellent story, and that what if of either side, it's just a testament to the writing prowess of Deanna Raybourn, because it's a pretty haunting question!

Loved how little clues were left behind, not that at the time I recognized them as clues, I wanted to get to the next scene to find out what was going to happen next, but they were there, in appearances and disappearances of characters, and locations and possibilities!

That ending, it was a bit sad, that her friend had most definitely gone mad, and might have become a murderer, her dad, the doctor, was most likely killed by the maybe werewolf, and the Count can't marry Theodora while his mother's alive. So yeah, there's that, but the last line, about what to do with her, she did well for herself, that was just great!

Loved this book, now to reread, and read more Deanna Raybourn books!
