OK, so I got 27 posts in 7 days, which is a pretty decent week, I got a lot read, which was really awesome! What about you guys? Happy reading!

So this week I want to read Ask Me How I Got Here, Dark Energy, Exile, Encore to an Empty Room, Finding Abbey Road, The Marked Girl, The Outliers, Ruined, and 26 Kisses.

From the author of the acclaimed Poisoned Apples comes a novel in verse about a young woman and the aftermath of a life-altering decision. This thought-provoking and sophisticated read further confirms Christine Heppermann as an important voice in the tradition of Ellen Hopkins, Laurie Halse Anderson, and A. S. King.

Addie has always known what she was running toward. In cross-country, in life, in love. Until she and her boyfriend—her sensitive, good-guy boyfriend—are careless one night and she ends up pregnant. Addie makes the difficult choice to have an abortion. And after that—even though she knows it was the right decision for her—nothing is the same anymore. She doesn’t want anyone besides her parents and her boyfriend to know what happened; she doesn’t want to run cross-country; she can’t bring herself to be excited about anything. Until she reconnects with Juliana, a former teammate who’s going through her own dark places. Once again, Christine Heppermann writes with an unflinching honesty and a deep sensitivity about the complexities of being a teenager, being a woman. Her free-verse poems are moving, provocative, and often full of wry humor and a sharp wit. Like Laurie Halse Anderson and Ellen Hopkins, Christine Heppermann is a voice to turn to for the truth of difficult subjects. Ask Me How I Got Here is a literary exploration of sexuality, religion, and self-discovery.
WE ARE NOT ALONE

Five days ago, a massive UFO crashed in the Midwest, killing thousands of people. Since then, nothing–or no one–has come out.

THEY HAVE ARRIVED

If it were up to Alice, she’d be watching all of this on the news from Miami, Florida. Instead, she’s the newest student at a boarding school not far from the crash site–because her dad is the director of special projects for NASA, and if anything’s a special project, it’s this.

AND THERE’S NO GOING BACK

A shell-shocked country is waiting, glued to televisions and computer screens, for a sign of what the future holds. But when the aliens emerge, they’re nothing like what Alice expected. And only one thing is clear: Nothing will ever be the same again.
Catherine Summer Carlson has hit rock bottom. On the brink of a record deal, her band Dangerheart is in disarray. One member has gone rogue, and another is missing and wanted by the police. On top of that, Summer’s parents are pressuring her to choose a future that doesn’t include the music world she loves so much. She’s torn between wanting to stay with Dangerheart and her soulmate Caleb, and taking off in a different direction at her dream college.

Meanwhile, Summer and Caleb are closer than ever to finally unlocking the mystery of Eli White’s lost songs, but the last clues present an impossible challenge: can they outwit Candy Shell records, stay one step ahead of the police, and find a way to get to London before it’s too late? And if they can get there, will they be ready for what they may find? Summer’s dreams of the future, Dangerheart’s chances of becoming the band they’ve always dreamed of being: it all comes down to these next five days. Summer knows this would be the riskiest thing she’s ever done, that her relationship with her parents may never recover, but she also knows that this might be her last shot at figuring out what her heart really wants.

Packed with mystery and music, Kevin Emerson’s final volume in the Exile series is the pitch-perfect ending to Summer’s journey of self-discovery and love, and an ode to music fans everywhere.
Once upon a time, in a land far, far away (Los Angeles)…
When Cedric, crowned prince of Caelum, and his fellow royal friends (including his betrothed, Kat) find themselves stranded in modern-day L.A. via a magical portal and an evil traitor named Malquin, all they want to do is get home to Caelum—soon. Then they meet Liv, a filmmaker foster girl who just wants to get out of the system and on with her life. As she and Cedric bond, they’ll discover that she’s more connected to his world than they ever could’ve imagined…and that finding home is no easy task…

Worlds collide in The Marked Girl, an exciting fantasy tale turned upside down.
From the New York Times bestselling author of Reconstructing Amelia comes a fast-paced teen series where one girl learns that in a world of intrigue, betrayal, and deeply buried secrets, it is vital to trust your instincts.

It all starts with a text: Please, Wylie, I need your help. Wylie hasn't heard from Cassie in over a week, not since their last fight. But that doesn't matter. Cassie's in trouble, so Wylie decides to do what she has done so many times before: save her best friend from herself.

This time it's different, though. Instead of telling Wylie where she is, Cassie sends cryptic clues. And instead of having Wylie come by herself, Jasper shows up saying Cassie sent him to help. Trusting the guy who sent Cassie off the rails doesn't feel right, but Wylie has no choice but to ignore her gut instinct and go with him.

But figuring out where Cassie is goes from difficult to dangerous, fast. As Wylie and Jasper head farther and farther north into the dense woods of Maine, Wylie struggles to control her growing sense that something is really wrong. What isn't Cassie telling them? And could finding her be only the beginning?

In this breakneck tale, New York Times bestselling author Kimberly McCreight brilliantly chronicles a fateful journey that begins with a single decision—and ends up changing everything.
Emelina Flores has nothing. Her home in Ruina has been ravaged by war. She lacks the powers of her fellow Ruined. Worst of all, she witnessed her parents’ brutal murders and watched helplessly as her sister, Olivia, was kidnapped.

But because Em has nothing, she has nothing to lose. Driven by a blind desire for revenge, Em sets off on a dangerous journey to the enemy kingdom of Lera. Somewhere within Lera’s borders, Em hopes to find Olivia. But in order to find her, Em must infiltrate the royal family.

In a brilliant, elaborate plan of deception and murder, Em marries Prince Casimir, next in line to take Lera’s throne. If anyone in Lera discovers Em is not Casimir’s true betrothed, Em will be executed on the spot. But it’s the only way to salvage Em’s kingdom and what is left of her family.

Em is determined to succeed, but the closer she gets to the prince, the more she questions her mission. Em’s rage-filled heart begins to soften. But with her life—and her family—on the line, love could be Em’s deadliest mistake.
Breaking up with her boyfriend is not how Veda planned on starting her summer. When Mark makes it clear that it’s over between them, Veda is heartbroken and humiliated—but, more importantly, she’s inspired. And so she sets out on the love quest of a lifetime: use the summer to forget about Mark, move on, and move up. All she has to do is kiss twenty-six boys with twenty-six different names—one for each letter of the alphabet.

From the top of the Ferris wheel at her hometown carnival to the sandy dunes of Lake Michigan, Veda takes every opportunity she can to add kisses (and boys) to her list, and soon the breakup doesn’t sting quite as much. But just when Veda thinks she has the whole kissing thing figured out, she meets someone who turns her world upside down.

By turns hilarious and heartbreaking, Anna Michels’s debut is the story of one girl who realizes that moving on from the supposed love of your life means taking a chance—and having the courage to love again.

Week 9 Reviews: The Remedy, The Epidemic, The Recovery

From Goodreads:
Quinlan McKee is a closer. Since the age of seven, Quinn has held the responsibility of providing closure to grieving families with a special skill—she can "become" anyone.

Quinn is hired by families to take on the short-term role of a deceased loved one between the ages of fifteen and twenty. She's not an exact copy, of course, but she wears their clothes and changes her hair, and studies them through pictures and videos. Soon, Quinn can act like them, smell like them, and be them for all intents and purposes. But to do her job successfully, she can't get attached.

Now seventeen, Quinn is deft at recreating herself, sometimes confusing her own past with those of the people she's portrayed. When she's given her longest assignment, playing the role of Catalina Barnes, Quinn begins to bond with the deceased girl’s boyfriend. But that's only the beginning of the complications, especially when Quinn finds out the truth about Catalina's death. And the epidemic it could start.

From Goodreads:
Can one girl help others find closure by slipping into the identities of their loved ones? Find out in this riveting sequel to The Remedy and companion to the New York Times bestselling The Treatment and The Program.

In a world before The Program…

Quinlan McKee has spent her life acting as other people. She was a closer—a person hired to play the role of the recently deceased in order to give their families closure. Through this process, Quinn learned to read people and situations, even losing a bit of herself to do so. But she couldn't have guessed how her last case would bring down her entire world.

The only person Quinn trusts is Deacon, her best friend and the love of her life. Except Deacon's been keeping secrets of his one, so Quinn must set out alone to find Arthur Pritchard, the doctor who's been trying to control her life. The journey brings Quinn to Arthur's daughter, Virginia, who tells Quinn the truth about Pritchard's motives. The former closer will start to see that she is the first step in fighting an epidemic.

But Quinlan doesn't want to be a cure. And with all the lies surrounding her, she realizes she has no one left to rely on but herself—even if she doesn't know who that is anymore.

From Goodreads:
Six months after the fall of The Program, ex-handler Michael Realm is struggling with his guilt. After all, he was instrumental in erasing the memories of several patients—including one he claimed to love. With a lifetime of regret stretched before him, Realm vows to set things right.

Along with his friend, James Murphy, Realm will track down those he's hurt in an attempt to give them back their lives—starting with Dallas Stone. He's not looking for forgiveness or redemption; he's not a hero. But Realm hopes that with each recovered past, he'll be able to reclaim a small bit of his own.

My Review:
It was so great to read these books! I loved The Program and The Treatment, so I just had to read these books! I knew that it was going to be hard to read The Remedy and The Epidemic because they were the lead up to world in The Treatment, but it was just so great to read them!

I kinda read the end of The Remedy before I was more then 100 pages in. So I kinda knew what was coming, and I was watching for the clues that would all add up to the ending. And if I hadn't been watching, I wouldn't have thought up the same ending!

The Epidemic, yeah, it dealt with the evil ending of The Remedy, and it was both fantastic to read, and heart-breaking! Especially that ending! Knowing that The Program was coming up. And as another reader wondered, how the timeline and how The Epidemic and The Program's worked together, and what was the timing there. I want to know!

I really enjoyed The Recovery, Realm was working for the bad guys and yeah, this was a bit of his redemption, because he wants to make up for his past actions. He can't ever fully make it up, between all those that can't heal, move on, and that they can't forgive him, or aren't able. But he does do a lot of good in this book!

Loved these books, this series, and I can't wait to read whatever Suzanne Young writes next!

Week 9 Reviews: Mermen, MerMadmen, Merciless

From Goodreads:
These Mermen Don't Have Tails, They're Deadly as Hell, and They've Got Something He Wants…

INFAMOUS BACHELOR and SELF-MADE BILLIONAIRE ROEN DORAN IS A BASTARD. Yes, he knows it. And no, he doesn't care. He's got money and power, and he depends on no one. But when his estranged father dies, willing him a secret island, Roen will come face to face with an even bigger secret: its occupants. And these savage, sea-obsessed warriors are quick to make their position clear: Leave now or die.

There's only one problem. Nobody tells Roen what to do. Ever. Oh, and one other thing. He's just met the island's other new "guest" and something about her brings out his possessive side.

SOLE SHIPWRECK SURVIVOR LIV STRATTON had been adrift at sea for ten grueling days when salvation miraculously appeared: an uncharted island. Only, the deceivingly beautiful men who live there aren't interested in saving her. No, not at all. Because they somehow believe she is their property, a gift from the ocean to do with as they please. This is not good.

Her only hope? Billionaire Roen Doran, of all people. A man who's said to care for nothing and no one. But if he's so heartless, then why is he about to risk everything to help her?

From Goodreads:
He never wanted this. He only wanted her.

EVERYTHING ABOUT THE ISLAND OF EL CORAZÓN IS WRONG. The men are ruthless warriors who call themselves mermen but don't have any fish parts, the island isn't exactly an island, and the women...well, let's just say their story isn't pretty. More like a nightmare. Which is exactly why billionaire Roen Doran will do anything to protect the woman he can't live without from that violent place. Including becoming the island's leader and giving her up forever.

WHEN LIV STRATTON ESCAPED THAT TERRIFYING ISLAND in the North Pacific after being shipwrecked, she didn't just leave behind the horror, she left behind Roen Doran. A man she didn't know, but who risked everything to save her. And now her heart can't seem to move on. So part of her wonders if it's somehow her fault she's been taken against her will and locked inside a ship bound for El Corazón. But an even bigger part wonders if Roen will lift a finger to save her this time. After all, now he's one of them...

From Goodreads:
ONE GIRL. ONE EVIL ISLAND. AND A FIGHT TO THE LAST BREATH.

Liv Stratton has had enough of evil mermen and the psychotic living island they call home. She's been kidnapped, caged, attacked by sea creatures, and nearly drowned. A nice small-town girl can only take so much. But after beating the impossible odds, Liv is finally safe at home in Alaska, only to realize that everything she holds dearest in this world is still back on that crazy island. Possibly dead. And if she wants to know what has become of the man she loves and her sister, she'll have to return and confront the one thing she's been trying to get away from: the island herself. Only this time, Liv isn't the same frightened human she once was. This time, they've messed with the wrong girl.

My Review:
Gah, these books! They were so fantastic, so enjoyable! I've only read one other Mimi Jean Pamfiloff book, but I've been meaning to read more, and now I have, and now I want to read even more! Just so enjoyable! Loved these books so much!

The mermen were very aggravating! They were all, we're superior to you landlovers in every way, even though as it turns out we've been lied to and the host to a parasite, basically. Not all of them understood sarcasm or when someone was talking down to them, yeah, they annoyed me so much! It was so entertaining!

Loved the romance between Liv and Roen, they were so messed up, but they still had that connection that was so strong, that they weathered through the events of these books, everything that tried to tear them apart, and they came out stronger!

There was the whole thing with the island, and yeah, that was really interesting. I didn't believe that it was the spark of life because of how bad the voice was. And when it turns out that the voice is separate from the water, that made a whole lot of sense! This world was so great and awesome and how everything worked together, and how all the mer stuff worked, just fantastic!

Loved this series so much, now to read more of Mimi Jean Pamfiloff's books!

Week 9 Review: The Power

From Goodreads:
With any great change, there is always strife, and the Covenant University has become the frontline between pure-bloods who want the Breed Order reinstated and the half-bloods who want the right to control their own destinies.
Fate has other plans.

The violence is escalating and war between the races seems inevitable, and it couldn't come at a worse time. Hyperion may be out of commission, but Josie and Seth know they have only earned a reprieve. Seth must get Josie fully prepared, which means controlling her newfound abilities, and they need to find the other demigods before the Titans do.
But the gods are sensing a greater threat.

Only one thing is more dangerous than a bunch of starved Titans, and that's an out-of-control Apollyon. The aether in Josie is drawing Seth in deeper, and when lust mixes with love and gives way to power, he knows being close to her is not only dangerous to her, but to everyone around them, but letting her go requires a level of selflessness that just isn't Seth's style.

The paths taken in the past are becoming the roads of the future.

Just as chaos breaks out, familiar faces from the past return, complicating the already strained bond between Josie and Seth, and when the danger from the Titans erupts with devastating consequences, the dark allure of power calls to Seth again, but this time Josie might not be able to pull him back.

And when the struggle between power and love becomes the deadliest battleground, there may be no salvation.

My Review:
This book, oh man, this book! It was so fantastic, so amazing, such a great sequel! It was just a touch hard to remember what happened in The Return, but it mostly came back as I was reading this book! So fantastic!

The relationship between Josie and Seth was a bit of a roller coaster in this book! All the ups and downs, the twists and turns, and the feels! So great, and yeah, the awkwardness of her dad, the warnings that the Librarian (and who she turned out to be!) was just so fantastic to read!

This is the book where Alex and Aiden came back! And it was glorious! It was so fantastic to read about Josie meeting them, and her watching Seth interact with them, because as you can imagine, that was really interesting to watch!

Then that ending! There were hints of what was to come, but I didn't think it would become as big as it did! So great and scary, and just oh, man, it was an evil cliffhanger! I just want  and need more, because it can't end that way!

Loved this book so much, and yeah that the cover and title for the next book, The Struggle!!!

I can't go to sleep!!! And not because of the cute boy lying next to me. There's a killer stalking me in my dreams. And if it's up to him . . . I'll never wake up. I have to find a way to get him, before he gets me.

My Review:
I wasn't meaning to read this book. I was even intending to buy it, but it was cheap and it sounded really good, so I bought it, and then I had a chance to read it, so I did, and I just absolutely loved it and devoured it in oh, about 2 1/2 hours!

So the idea of lucid dreaming combined with being able to connect to other people's dreams, that was really interesting to read about! Especially when you add in a bad guy who gets his power from his own pain, which is pretty gruesome.

Add in the mystery of said bad guy, and finding him before he kills her, well, yeah, that's really interesting! Oh, and the son of the lawyer who helped the bad guy get into a mental institution instead of jail is involved, too!

I really enjoyed the REM dream sleep helped out in this book, that they used science to deal with something that is a bit hard to explain! And then how they beat the bad guy, by being stronger and smarter then he was! So great!

I really enjoyed this book, it was so easy and awesome to read!

Week 9 Review: Bitter Bite

From Goodreads:
Which is stronger: blood ties or a battle-tested friendship?

It's not easy being queen bee of an underworld abuzz with crooks and killers. Wielding my potent Ice and Stone elemental magic will only get me so far—my real secret is my tight-knit makeshift family, a motley crew of cops and criminals, dwarves and playboys. My foster brother Finnegan Lane is my right-hand man, but when his suddenly not-dead relative comes back into the picture, I'm the one on the outside looking in.

It's funny how life works: one minute your best friend is rock-steady, and the next he's doe-eyed and buying into this whole loving-relative routine to the point of ignoring you. I'd like to be happy for Finn, I really would. But all of my instincts are telling me that beneath the syrupy sweet demeanor and old-fashioned charm, this sudden interloper is planning something. The whole shtick leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. This person might have avoided the grave once, but I'll put anyone who hurts Finn in the ground—for good.

My Review:
Another fantastic book in this series! And the first in the series that I've read all caught up to what's currently being published, so that feels pretty good! And this book had a lot going on in it, and was just so enjoyable to read!

I really enjoy Gin's flashbacks, brought on by her subconscious. They are important, they mean something to what's currently happening, whether it's something that can help or hurt her, or a emotion that's being brought up again, like in the case of this book.

It was hard to read this book, knowing that "Mama Dee" was up to no good, and that Finn was being sucked in-and Gin couldn't prove it. Of course, she did show her hand after that whole kidnapping incident! And so much more!

That ending, oh! And the reveal of "The Circle" that Mab was a part of, and that they're truly running the criminal underworld. Oh, and that Gin's mom was a part of this group, and wanted to move towards a more moral group, and that's why Mab killed her. Yeah.

Such a fantastic, amazing, awesome book, and I really can't wait for the next book (well, and the next novella, too, since it's apparently from Finn's POV!)

Week 9 Review: Firstlife

From Goodreads:
ONE CHOICE.

TWO REALMS.

NO SECOND CHANCE.

Tenley "Ten" Lockwood is an average seventeen-year-old girl…who has spent the past thirteen months locked inside the Prynne Asylum. The reason? Not her obsession with numbers, but her refusal to let her parents choose where she'll live—after she dies.

There is an eternal truth most of the world has come to accept: Firstlife is merely a dress rehearsal, and real life begins after death.

In the Everlife, two realms are in power: Troika and Myriad, longtime enemies and deadly rivals. Both will do anything to recruit Ten, including sending their top Laborers to lure her to their side. Soon, Ten finds herself on the run, caught in a wild tug-of-war between the two realms who will do anything to win the right to her soul. Who can she trust? And what if the realm she's drawn to isn't home to the boy she's falling for? She just has to stay alive long enough to make a decision…

My Review:
Gah, this book! It was so fantastic, so enjoyable, and yeah, another terrific Gena Showalter book! What's not to love? Ten was such a fantastic character, as well as Killian and Archer. I just loved reading about them!

To start off, you really should know about this world. That there are two lives, a Firstlife, here on Earth, and then a Secondlife, where you signed (or didn't) in your Firstlife-Troika and Myriad, and the the really awful place for people who don't sign. And Troika and Myriad are opposites, light and dark, truth and anything goes, work and play, choice and fate, second death means gone forever and second death means fusing with a new soul and being born again.

They both have their pluses and minuses, but the whole idea that basically the only worthwhile thing you can do in your life is choosing where you're going to sign, it kinda sucks. Firstlife should and can mean so much more than that! And that kids pretty much always sign with the same side that their parents did, and that at least for Myriad, that parents contracts depend on their kids...yeah, it sucks!

I really enjoyed the emails, they gave us a look into who Killian and Archer were, especially since Archer's appearance is as Bow, in a girl Shell. He's still the same person, but it's a little disconcerting! But so enjoyable to read!

We need to learn more about Killian, because all we really know is that he has an accent, he signed with Myraid, so he thinks that his mom's soul is fused with someone else's, but he doesn't know who, and he used to be best friends with Archer.

Speaking of Archer, I'm wondering, did he have a Firstlife? Seeing who his dad is and all, was he just born as a spirit, no body? And that he only got that life, with the ending in this book being what it is, well, that's something that I hope is important!

Such a fantastic book, from her crazy aunt Luna and the song that became so important, that the hell of the unsigned is connected to Myriad and those unsigned souls are pretty much trapped, the war between Troika and Myriad, that killer ending of this book, well, I just can't wait for Lifeblood!
