OK, so I got 27 posts in 7 days, and I've read some really great books, and I'm happy with that. And Dobby's surgery is today, so I'm hoping that goes smoothly! What about you guys? Happy reading!

So this week I want to read whatever is left from my various TBR's before the month ends!

Week 29 Reviews: The Last 8, The First 7

From Goodreads:

Clover Martinez has always been a survivor, which is the only reason she isn't among the dead when aliens invade and destroy Earth as she knows it. When she hears an inexplicable radio message, she's shocked to learn there are other survivors--and that they're all at the former Area 51. When she arrives, she's greeted by a band of misfits who call themselves The Last Teenagers on Earth. Only they aren't the ragtag group of heroes Clover was expecting. The group seems more interested in hiding than fighting back, and Clover starts to wonder if she was better off alone. But then she finds a hidden spaceship, and she doesn't know what to believe...or who to trust.

From Goodreads:

In the thrilling conclusion to the Last 8 duology, the Last Teenagers on Earth return home to find a colony of survivors who aren't who they seem...

Clover Martinez and the Last Teenagers on Earth are busy exploring the galaxy after leaving earth behind...even if they are homesick. So when their ship receives a distress signal from their former home, they hope against hope that it means that there are other survivors. But as soon as they arrive, they realize something's deeply wrong: strange crystal formations are taking over Earth's soil and threatening to destroy the planet.

Seeking the origin of the formations, the group discovers a colony of survivors hidden in the mountains. Relief gives way to panic as the teenagers realize these survivors aren't who they seem…and Clover and her friends might not be able to escape.

My Review:
I really enjoyed reading these books! Clover is very realistic, and goes through some pretty hard things, and I really enjoyed her story, as the world ended when the aliens came, and her desire to fight back and get revenge! They were such great stories!

The beginning of The Last 8, yeah, it's pretty rough, humanity is pretty much wiped out, and she's left alone, potentially one of the last human beings left alive. So once she gets with the Last Teenagers on Earth, well, she just really wants to get revenge on those that basically wiped out humanity!

Throughout this duology, there were some pretty fantastic twists and reveals, about why these kids in particular survived, and then what was going on in that colony. It kept me reading, because I just wanted to know what was going to happen next!

I can understand while it was difficult, once they were back on earth, because they weren't the last bit of humanity left. But there are so many questions left to answer, what was going on with the distress beacon, and oh, I loved how the story turned out!

Loved reading these books, and I can't wait to read more by Laura Pohl!

OK, so I got 42 posts in 7 days, and it was a decent week. I still haven't gotten ahold of anyone at Facebook to get my account back, which is really frustrating. But I'm still trying to make contact. What about you guys? Happy reading!

So this week I want to read whatever I want!

Week 19 Reviews: The Grimrose Girls, The Wicked Remain

From Goodreads:

Once Upon a Time meets Pretty little liars.

Four troubled friends, One murdered girl... and a dark fate that may leave them all doomed.

After the mysterious death of their best friend, Ella, Yuki, and Rory are the talk of their elite school, Grimrose Académie. The police ruled it a suicide, but the trio are determined to find out what really happened.

When Nani Eszes arrives as their newest roommate, it sets into motion a series of events they couldn't have imagined. As the girls retrace their friend's last steps, they uncover dark secrets about themselves and their destinies, discovering they're all cursed to repeat the brutal and gruesome endings to their stories until they can break the cycle.

This contemporary take on classic fairytales reimagines heroines as friends attending the same school. While investigating the murder of their best friend, they uncover connections to their ancient fairytale curses and attempt to forge their own fate before it's too late.

From Goodreads:

At Grimrose Académie, the fairy-tale deaths continue. And unless the curse is broken, one of the girls could be next.

Nani, Yuki, Ella, and Rory have discovered the truth about the curse that's left a trail of dead bodies at Grimrose. But the four still know nothing of its origins, or how to stop the cycle of doomed fates.

Each girl harbors her own secret. One is learning why she was brought to the school. One struggles to keep her new and deadly power under control. One knows exactly how much time she has left.

And one, trying to escape her dark destiny, will come even closer to fulfilling it.

Can the girls change their own stories and break the curse? Or must one of them die to end it forever?

My Review:
I loved reading these books! I loved these story about this group of friends, who are dealing with their circumstances, learning more about what was going on, and investigating this mystery, it was all so great to read!

We did rotate around with all the girls' perspectives, which was both good and bad in helping to distinguish each one from the other, of which details went with which girl. That it turns out that they're modern day versions of these various fairy tales, that helped solidify each girl separately in my mind.

These are the darker versions of the tales, given that their friend, the one who had Ariel's story, died, was a pretty good indication, as well as the atmosphere. I couldn't get enough, and I had to know what was going to happen next!

And with all that they learned in the first book, they still had to deal with the curse that the were under in the second. And I had a really great time watching them deal with it in their own ways, and how things eventually wrapped up!

These were both really fantastic reads, and I can't wait to read more by Laura Pohl!

First Lines Friday #626, May 12th

First Lines Friday is a bookish meme hosted by Literary Marie of Precision Reviews. We encourage all of our fellow book bloggers and bookhearts to play along.

-Grab your current read(s)
-Share the first line(s)
-Include the title and author so that other FLF participants can add the book to their TBR Lists!

"The first day of school started with a funeral. This was not, of course, the usual for the Grimrose Académie for Elite Students, whose student body mostly lived to their eighties, and went on to command corporate conglomerates or win Academy Awards, Nobel Prizes, and other such trifles. Therefore, everyone was shocked, and whispers were heard in every corner of the castle, from the library tower to the girl's bathroom on the fifth floor. The whispers, especially, followed Eleanor Ashworth."-The Grimrose Girls by Laura Pohl

That is not a happy opening! Must read more now! What about you guys? Happy reading!
