OK, so I got 41 posts in 7 days, which was a pretty great week, I read a good number of books, and I have today off, because it's a holiday, so I can get a bunch of reading and unpacking done! And yeah, there's some really fantastic books coming out this week (really all month) that I can't wait to read! What about you guys? Happy reading!

So this week I want to read Forgotten in Death, The Inheritance Games, The Hawthorne Legacy, and High Stakes.

In the latest novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling series, homicide detective Eve Dallas sifts through the wreckage of the past to find a killer.

The body was left in a dumpster like so much trash, the victim a woman of no fixed address, known for offering paper flowers in return for spare change—and for keeping the cops informed of any infractions she witnessed on the street. But the notebook where she scribbled her intel on litterers and other such offenders is nowhere to be found.

Then Eve is summoned away to a nearby building site to view more remains—in this case decades old, adorned with gold jewelry and fine clothing—unearthed by recent construction work. She isn't happy when she realizes that the scene of the crime belongs to her husband, Roarke—not that it should surprise her, since the Irish billionaire owns a good chunk of New York. Now Eve must enter a complex world of real estate development, family history, shady deals, and shocking secrets to find justice for two women whose lives were thrown away…
The Inheritance Games ended with a bombshell, and now heiress Avery Grambs has to pick up the pieces and find the man who might hold the answers to all of her questions - including why Tobias Hawthorne left his entire fortune to Avery, a virtual stranger, rather than to his own daughters or grandsons.

Thanks to a DNA test, Avery knows that she's not a Hawthorne by blood, but clues pile up hinting at a deeper connection to the family than she had ever imagined. As the mystery grows and the plot thickens, Grayson and Jameson, the enigmatic and magnetic Hawthorne grandsons, continue to pull Avery in different directions. And there are threats lurking around every corner, as adversaries emerge who will stop at nothing to see Avery out of the picture - by any means necessary.
All bets are off as #1 New York Times bestselling author Iris Johansen introduces gambler Logan Tanner, a man with a secret past that's about to come back to haunt him.

Logan Tanner lives the exhilarating life of a professional gambler, taking risks with nerves of steel. From casinos in Macau to Monte Carlo to Milan, he's racked up a fortune and become a living legend. But all the glitz and glamor hide a dark and violent past as an extractor—a world that comes rushing back to him when the beautiful and innocent Lara Balkon enters his life.

Soon Logan is drawn into the conflict between two Russian mafia bosses over Lara, whose life now hangs in the balance. Logan has been offered something more valuable to him than money—information he desperately needs—in exchange for getting Lara out of Russia and to safety. Once together, Tanner discovers that Lara is a force to be reckoned with in her own right. Tanner's search for the truth leads them to the bright lights of Las Vegas. Where the person who was hunting Lara now lies in wait for them.

With the stakes climbing with each deadly confrontation, Logan and Lara are soon catapulted into a game against pure evil. The odds are stacked against them, but it's a game they know they must play…even if it may cost them their lives.

Week 35 Review: The Storm

From Goodreads:
"I'll tell you a weird thing about apocalypses - a thing I didn't even know until I was in one: they seem pretty bad, don't they? Well, take it from me: they can always get worse."

Three months after the killer rain first fell, Ruby is beginning to realise her father might be dead . . . and that she cannot survive alone. When a chance encounter lands her back in the army camp, Ruby thinks she is safe - at a price. Being forced to live with Darius Spratt is bad enough, but if Ruby wants to stay she must keep her eyes - and her mouth - shut. It's not going to happen. When she realizes what is going on - the army is trying to find a cure by experimenting on human subjects - Ruby flips out . . . and makes an even more shocking discovery: she's not useless at all. The Storm begins . . .

My Review:
Man, this was such a fantastic read! I loved reading the first book, and I was really excited to be back in this world! And boy, it was such a great read! Things were still pretty bad at the end of the first book, and I had to know what was going to happen next!

I just love the way that this book is told! Ruby's writing in a journal, and she's writing to whomever picks it up, and that's us. So there's moments where she's talking straight at us, and it was such a great choice for this series!

Oh, and Darius! I loved her interactions with him, they had a particular relationship, and I loved watching it develop! He was a really great character to read about, espcailly his interactions with Ruby, and the love that they grew to share!

The science stuff in this book was pretty interesting as well. I have no idea how it'd work, but it seemed logical from my view point. And of course things went down a certain way, and the ending was really entertaining. I would love to have a bit more, to see how the world is doing after everything that happened!

This was a fantastic read, and I can't wait to read more by Virginia Bergin!

Waiting on Wednesday #226, September 2nd

"Waiting On" Wednesday is a weekly event, hosted at Breaking the Spine, that spotlights upcoming releases that we're eagerly anticipating!

Spinning Starlight by R.C. Lewis
Expected Publication: October 6th, 2015
From Goodreads:
Sixteen-year-old heiress and paparazzi darling Liddi Jantzen hates the spotlight. But as the only daughter in the most powerful tech family in the galaxy, it's hard to escape it. So when a group of men show up at her house uninvited, she assumes it's just the usual media-grubs. That is, until shots are fired.

Liddi escapes, only to be pulled into an interplanetary conspiracy more complex than she ever could have imagined. Her older brothers have been caught as well, trapped in the conduits between the planets. And when their captor implants a device in Liddi's vocal cords to monitor her speech, their lives are in her hands: One word and her brothers are dead.

Desperate to save her family from a desolate future, Liddi travels to another world, where she meets the one person who might have the skills to help her bring her eight brothers home-a handsome dignitary named Tiav. But without her voice, Liddi must use every bit of her strength and wit to convince Tiav that her mission is true. With the tenuous balance of the planets deeply intertwined with her brothers' survival, just how much is Liddi willing to sacrifice to bring them back?

Haunting and mesmerizing, this retelling of Hans Christian Andersen's The Wild Swans strings the heart of the classic with a stunning, imaginative world as a star-crossed family fights for survival in this companion to Stitching Snow.

The White Rose by Amy Ewing
Expected Publication: October 6th, 2015
From Goodreads:
Violet is on the run. After the Duchess of the Lake catches Violet with Ash, the hired companion at the Palace of the Lake, Violet has no choice but to escape the Jewel or face certain death. So along with Ash and her best friend, Raven, Violet runs away from her unbearable life of servitude.

But no one said leaving the Jewel would be easy. As they make their way through the circles of the Lone City, Regimentals track their every move, and the trio barely manages to make it out unscathed and into the safe haven they were promised—a mysterious house in the Farm.

But there’s a rebellion brewing, and Violet has found herself in the middle of it. Alongside a new ally, Violet discovers her Auguries are much more powerful than she ever imagined. But is she strong enough to rise up against the Jewel and everything she has ever known?

The White Rose is a raw, captivating sequel to The Jewel that fans won’t be able to put down until the final shocking moments.

A Madness So Discreet by Mindy McGinnis
Expected Publication: October 6th, 2015
From Goodreads:
Grace Mae knows madness.

She keeps it locked away, along with her voice, trapped deep inside a brilliant mind that cannot forget horrific family secrets. Those secrets, along with the bulge in her belly, land her in a Boston insane asylum.

When her voice returns in a burst of violence, Grace is banished to the dark cellars, where her mind is discovered by a visiting doctor who dabbles in the new study of criminal psychology. With her keen eyes and sharp memory, Grace will make the perfect assistant at crime scenes. Escaping from Boston to the safety of an ethical Ohio asylum, Grace finds friendship and hope, hints of a life she should have had. But gruesome nights bring Grace and the doctor into the circle of a killer who stalks young women. Grace, continuing to operate under the cloak of madness, must hunt a murderer while she confronts the demons in her own past.

In this beautifully twisted historical thriller, Mindy McGinnis, acclaimed author of Not a Drop to Drink and In a Handful of Dust, explores the fine line between sanity and insanity, good and evil—and the madness that exists in all of us.

My Secret to Tell by Natalie D. Richards
Expected Publication: October 6th, 2015
From Goodreads:
His smile is a crime.

Emerson May is "the good girl." She's the perfect daughter, the caring friend, the animal shelter volunteer. But when her best friend's brother breaks into her room, his hands covered in blood, she doesn't scream or call the cops. Because when Deacon smiles at her, Emmie doesn't want to be good...

The whole town believes notorious troublemaker Deacon is guilty of assaulting his father. Only Emmie knows a secret that could set him free. But if she follows her heart, she could be trusting a killer...

You can't always trust the boy next door.

The Storm by Virginia Bergin
Expected Publication: October 6th, 2015
From Goodreads:

The Storm begins . . .
An Inheritance of Ashes by Leah Bobet
Expected Publication: October 6th, 2015
From Goodreads:
The strange war down south—with its rumors of gods and monsters—is over. And while sixteen-year-old Hallie and her sister wait to see who will return from the distant battlefield, they struggle to maintain their family farm.

When Hallie hires a veteran to help them, the war comes home in ways no one could have imagined, and soon Hallie is taking dangerous risks—and keeping desperate secrets. But even as she slowly learns more about the war and the men who fought it, ugly truths about Hallie’s own family are emerging. And while monsters and armies are converging on the small farm, the greatest threat to her home may be Hallie herself.

I've gotten the first two from Edelweiss, but I really want to read all of them, I just want to read them! They look so fantastic! What about you guys? Happy reading!

Week 40 Review: H2O

From Goodreads:
It's in the rain...and just one drop will kill you.

They don't believe it at first. Crowded in Zach's kitchen, Ruby and the rest of the partygoers laugh at Zach's parents' frenzied push to get them all inside as it starts to drizzle. But then the radio comes on with the warning, "It's in the rain! It's fatal, it's contagious, and there's no cure."

Two weeks later, Ruby is alone. Anyone who's been touched by rain or washed their hands with tap water is dead. The only drinkable water is quickly running out. Ruby's only chance for survival is a treacherous hike across the country to find her father-if he's even still alive.

My Review:
This was an incredible book! Ruby was an incredible, awesome character, from using a butterfly image for swears, and curses, including God, because of her mom. And that she writes the truth, even when when it's hard. Yeah.

First off, it starts with the fact that the world almost ended, and Ruby's generation, well, they just don't really care-because it didn't, so really, what's the point over worrying about something that didn't happen?

Ruby has it pretty bad off. Like it says above, she's alone in just 2 weeks. The only one of her family-her mom, brother, and stepfather-that's still alive. Which prompts her journey to find her dad. And yeah, that's a tough thing to do, when it's the water that is the enemy. And something else, too.

Because yeah, that's difficult, water is almost everywhere, you'll die without it in 2 or 3 days, and this water, if you touch it, you die, like her mom and brother, that's all that happened. Which is just so sad, since her brother, was like, a year old.

Favourite Lines: "Here we go. You knew, you just knew, when he repeated stuff like that he was going to repeat a whole load of other stuff. On and on and on and…—'that you find the near destruction of the planet Earth, on which you live, boring?'" *Snorts* yeah, since it didn't end! "I was half black-eyed zombie, half human cherry." That is a very weird, funny image! "He’d be OK. Fatal. He’d be OK. Fatal. He’d be OK." That must be quite dizzying! "He was really weirding me out now, because normally if he even slightly suspected illicit activities, he’d flip out, and that’d be it: me
grounded and scraping poop, pee, woodchips, and hay out of the guinea-pig hutch. I could just see it… Except I’d actually confessed, and he wasn't going ballistic. Weird." Or not, if you consider the fact that the world is slowly ending! "He made stews when we went camping. 'Comfort food' was
what he called it. They were horrible—and, as I once pointed out, if we went on the kind of vacations everyone else got to go on, you wouldn't need comforting. Even my mom had laughed." Yeah, that is funny! "

Yeah, this was a fantastic book, and I really can't wait for the next book! Because that kinda cliff hanger, the mystery of what happened to the people who left the note, that's probably going to be big next!

H2O: Guest Post

Today, I'd like to welcome over Virginia Bergin, author of H2O, over for a guest post!

Have you ever had one of those awkward moments when you go all shy and tongue-tied and you just don’t know what to say?

I think I'm having one right now.

OK . . .

Hi! My name is Virginia Bergin and I wrote H2O and . . . this is my very first post for the Sourcebooks Fire Blog Tour.  I suppose I could tell you all about me, or I could tell you all about H2O (I have got a lot to say about it!), but what I’d really like to talk about is YOU.

You see, I've been doing all sorts of different kinds of writing for years, but H2O is my first published novel. It is very, very exciting to see this book in print. It has taken an incredible amount of teamwork: the editors, the designers, the printers, the publicists, the marketers. Then, of course, there are the distributors, the booksellers, the librarians and the educators . . .

. . . and you.

For me, the most amazing thing about this process is you, the reader.  Without you, this book does not really exist. Stories are not about paper or pixels, but about what happens in the reader's mind - and I do mean "the reader" and not "the readers", because every reader is unique. No one else will experience this story in quite the same way as you will experience this story.

That thought sends shivers down my spine. Good ones! It is at the heart of the very spooky relationship between writing and reading. Between the writer and the reader. I try very hard to create powerful stories.  I want to provoke thoughts and ideas – and FEELINGS. The characters are alive! (This is especially true of H2O because Ruby, my main character, is actually telling the story to us directly.) What fascinates me is that the second you start to read, I lose all control. The story is no longer mine, it belongs to you.

(Although Ruby would say it was never 'mine' in the first place; she was such a strong character she took over the whole of the writing process!)

On this blog tour I'm going to be talking about all kinds of things: my reasons for writing this story, the themes in the book, the characters (particularly Ruby!), the mind-melting research, what I like to read, how I write. There’s even going to be some advice for anyone out there who has just started out writing – or wants to. Oh, and a response to a question about cupcakes.

But the thing I'm looking forward to most is not talking. It’s listening. Yes, I will be very interested to hear what you - the reader - think about this story . . . because from October 7th 2014, the day H2O is published, there won’t be a thing I can do about it. It will all be up to you.

With huge thanks to Louisa (a brilliant reader!) for kindly hosting this first blog post - and to Sourcebooks Fire for introducing us!

Virginia Bergin is the author of the young adult novel, H2O, a story about what happens when a totally ordinary (and utterly unique, because everyone is) teenager finds herself in a global apocalypse. Virginia works as a writer for TV, eLearning and corporate projects. Most recently, she has been working in online education, creating interactive courses for The Open University.  She lives in Bristol, England.

In H2O, Virginia crafts a tale of desperation and survival about a world in chaos. Anyone who’s been touched by rain or tap water is dead. With a fascinatingly unique premise, a heroine that takes daunting risks and slim chances of survival, H2O's fast-paced, unputdownable mystery and emotional survivor’s story will appeal to readers who enjoyed The Fifth Wave and The Hunger Games.

Come back tomorrow for my review of H2O!

"As soon as I'd gotten the first warbling word out, I knew I'd made yet another horrible mistake. Not because of the not-being-able-to-sing thing, but because the song was the song my mom sang to
me when I was little, the one she wouldn't sing that night when she sat outside the door—'Dream a Little Dream of Me.'" -H2O by Virginia Bergin

That must suck! And it's saying to me that she has at least one person listening to her! What about you guys? Happy reading!
