Week 26 Review: The False Princess

From Goodreads:
Princess and heir to the throne of Thorvaldor, Nalia's led a privileged life at court.  But everything changes when it's revealed, just after her sixteenth birthday, that she is a false princess, a stand-in for the real Nalia, who has been hidden away for her protection.  Cast out with little more than the clothes on her back, the girl now called Sinda must leave behind the city of Vivaskari, her best friend, Keirnan, and the only life she's ever known.

Sinda is sent to live with her only surviving relative, an aunt who is a dyer in a distant village. She is a cold, scornful woman with little patience for her newfound niece, and Sinda proves inept at even the simplest tasks.  But when Sinda discovers that magic runs through her veins - long-suppressed, dangerous magic that she must learn to control - she realizes that she can never learn to be a simple village girl.

Returning to Vivaskari for answers, Sinda finds her purpose as a wizard scribe, rediscovers the boy who saw her all along, and uncovers a secret that could change the course of Thorvaldor's history, forever.

My Review:
Oh, this was a really fantastic book! Loved that while it turns out that she's not the princess, well, she still is important. She's a person, so of course she's important, but there's an extra special importance to her in that she has magic!

It was pretty horrible to find out that she wasn't the princess, that she'd been raised as a decoy, and then kicked out, that's pretty horrible. Not very nice of anybody to do that to her, to not even prepare her for that, was just mean!

The romance and the mystery, and just everything in the plot, I just loved to read about that! Sinda had to find out who she was, now that she wasn't a princess, and that journey was really great to read about!

Oh, that secret that she finds out? Yeah, that's pretty explosive, and it was really great that Sinda was the one that found it, yeah, that was just perfect! And it was great to have Kiernan and Sinda together, they were friends, and then they grew to be more! So good!

So awesome, and amazing, and yeah, I enjoyed it a lot!

Week 26 Review: Enchanted

From Goodreads:
It isn't easy being the rather overlooked and unhappy youngest sibling to sisters named for the other six days of the week. Sunday's only comfort is writing stories, although what she writes has a terrible tendency to come true.

When Sunday meets an enchanted frog who asks about her stories, the two become friends. Soon that friendship deepens into something magical. One night Sunday kisses her frog goodbye and leaves, not realizing that her love has transformed him back into Rumbold, the crown prince of Arilland—and a man Sunday’s family despises.

The prince returns to his castle, intent on making Sunday fall in love with him as the man he is, not the frog he was. But Sunday is not so easy to woo. How can she feel such a strange, strong attraction for this prince she barely knows? And what twisted secrets lie hidden in his past - and hers?

My Review:
Such a fantastic book! And it's a DAC book, to boot, and this book is just so good and entertaining! I just loved all the fairy tales that were there or mentioned, Sunday's family, and how everything came together! It was really awesome!

Sunday, the 7th daughter, all of them named after a day of the week, and her life, is pretty interesting. Because she loves to write-but those things come true. Then there's the frog, who turns into a prince when she isn't looking. Which adds a bit of a complication, because then she doesn't recognize him!

Loved the mystery in this book, there were little mentions here and there, at a level that you'd almost think that there wasn't a mystery. But then everything happened, and yeah, there were some secrets hidden there!

Wow, that was a really great ending! That whole thing with the prince's family, and Sunday's family-because they have a reason not to like Rumbold's family, yeah, everything coming out, that was really fantastic to read about!

I enjoyed this book a lot, it was really great and entertaining! Can't wait to see what Alethea Kontis writes next!

Week 26 Review: Masque of the Red Death

From Goodreads:
Everything is in ruins.

A devastating plague has decimated the population. And those who are left live in fear of catching it as the city crumbles to pieces around them.

So what does Araby Worth have to live for?

Nights in the Debauchery Club, beautiful dresses, glittery make-up . . . and tantalizing ways to forget it all.

But in the depths of the club—in the depths of her own despair—Araby will find more than oblivion. She will find Will, the terribly handsome proprietor of the club. And Elliott, the wickedly smart aristocrat. Neither boy is what he seems. Both have secrets. Everyone does.

And Araby may find something not just to live for, but to fight for—no matter what it costs her.

My Review:
This was a fantastic book! With such fantastic characters, world building, writing, and twists, man, did I enjoyed this book! It was just freaking good, and I just wanted more! And a great start of the series, this half of the duology!

Araby was really awesome, daughter of the guy that created the masks that filter the air individually, so they don't die of the plague that has been killing a good deal of the people off. So yeah, her family is pretty well off, now.

But society has pretty much collapsed, bringing around a kingdom, and yeah, the prince was not a nice guy, even though his relatives are her friends, like Elliot, though she really only gets to know Elliot a bit in this book!

There were a lot of great twists in this book, with Will and Elliott, and the sides that they're on, the goals they have, and all that. Not so fun for Araby in a lot of that, but she survives, which is more then others can say!

Really fantastic book, and I can't wait for the next book, which is going to be so great!

Week 26 Review: Endure

From Goodreads:
It's all-out war (and no-holds-barred romance) in the climactic conclusion to Carrie Jones’s bestselling series.

Zara is at the center of an impending apocalypse. True, she's successfully rescued Nick from Valhalla, but it simply isn't enough. Evil pixies are ravaging Bedford, and they need much more than one great warrior; they need an army. Zara isn't sure what her role is anymore. She's not just fighting for her friends; she's also a pixie queen. And to align her team of pixies with the humans she loves will be one of her greatest battles yet. Especially since she can't even reconcile her growing feelings for her pixie king . . .

Unexpected turns, surprising revelations, and one utterly satisfying romantic finale make Endure a thrilling end to this series of bestsellers.

My Review:
This was a really fantastic book! And a great ending to the series, I enjoyed it whole ton, though I am sad to say goodbye to the series! It was just so good, and rounded out such a wonderful series! Just so freaking good!

This book picks up right away after Entice, and just keeps going! They've rescued Nick (and in the process, she started to fall in love with Astley, which I'm liking, because Zara is liking him!) and yeah, he's not totally supportive of the lengths that they did to do so. So that's a bit of conflict!

Zara struggles with a bit being a Pixie Queen, and having been raised human, and trying to do the "humane" thing, that's an issue that she faces. Of course then there's the romantic entanglements of Nick and Astley, so I enjoyed where that ended up!

My one complaint, is that it was a bit confusing, and murky, and things could've been expanded and explained, also so the book could be longer! Would've made for a better book! But it ended in a pretty great place, so I enjoyed that!

This was a really great, fantastic book, and yeah, can't wait to see what Carrie Jones writes next!

Week 26 Review: Jealousy

From Goodreads:
Dru Anderson might finally be safe. She's at the largest Schola on the continent, and beginning to learn what it means to be svetocha—half vampire, half human, and all deadly. If she survives her training, she will be able to take her place in the Order, holding back the vampires and protecting the oblivious normal people.

But a web of lies and betrayals is still closing around her, just when she thinks she can relax a little. Her mentor Christophe is missing, her almost-boyfriend is acting weird, and the bodyguards she's been assigned seem to know much more than they should. And then there's the vampire attacks, the strange nightly visits, and the looks everyone keeps giving her. As if she should know something.

Or as if she's in danger.

Someone high up in the Order is a traitor. They want Dru dead—but first, they want to know what she remembers of the night her mother died. Dru doesn't want to remember, but it looks like she might have to—especially since once Christophe returns, he’ll be on trial for his life, and the only person who can save him is Dru.

The problem is, once she remembers everything, she may not want to...

My Review:
Such a fantastic book! It's pretty different already from Strange Angels, because Dru knows more, but also because she's changed, already in just the two previous books, and then more in this one, too! It was great to read about!

So while we found out that Dru was a svetocha, in the last book, but in this one, we learned more about what that means, and yeah, why there are so few of them, and it's pretty grim! But Dru's different from all of them in personality, I'd bet, because she's a fighter, and she fights pretty hard!

I kinda had a few suspicions in this book, or from the previous one, and a few of them were confirmed, which was fantastic! I like being right, I think most people do for things that when they're right, is good (or a book, in which the writer is in control, not us readers!)

The characters were just so awesome in this book! Of course Dru, doing what she does in this book, Graves, the almost boyfriend werewolf, the vampire Christophe, who has some connection to her mom, and yeah, all the others! They were really great!

Loved that ending, so good, and now I just want more! And I'll have more, at least 2 books!

Week 26 Review: Eternal

From Goodreads:
With diabolical wit, the author of TANATALIZE revisits a deliciously dark world where vampires vie with angels — and girls just want to have fangs.

At last, Miranda is the life of the party: all she had to do was die. Elevated and adopted by none other than the reigning King of the Mantle of Dracul, Miranda goes from high-school theater wannabe to glamorous royal fiend overnight. Meanwhile, her reckless and adoring guardian angel, Zachary, demoted to human guise as the princess's personal assistant, has his work cut out for him trying to save his girl's soul and plan the Master's fast-approaching Death Day gala. In alternating points of view, Miranda and Zachary navigate a cut-throat eternal aristocracy as they play out a dangerous and darkly hilarious love story for the ages.

My Review:
This was such a great book! And it made a lot more sense then Tantalize, so that meant that I enjoyed it so much more! Really enjoyed this book, and while it's set in the same world, it didn't have Quinice or Kieran in it. But reading the synopsis' of the next two books, it seems like things will be different there!

I really enjoyed having both Miranda and Zachary's POV's, because then we knew what was going on better, and things made a lot more sense, and that was really great! I enjoyed all of that a lot, and going back and forth, and getting more information!

The romance was so good, too! Though he's her guardian angel, he's fallen in love with her, and over the course of this book, she falls in love with him, even though she thinks he's human, and thus, lower then her own vampire status. But they still are in love!

Oh, that ending! That was unexpected, and a bit hard to read! That the good guys won-and Miranda chose to die. Not what I would've thought this book would end, but it was good. Not fun, but good, and it was the right thing, however hard!

I enjoyed this book so much, and I can't wait to read more!

Week 26 Review: The Duff

From Goodreads:
Seventeen-year-old Bianca Piper is cynical and loyal, and she doesn't think she's the prettiest of her friends by a long shot. She's also way too smart to fall for the charms of man-slut and slimy school hottie Wesley Rush. In fact, Bianca hates him. And when he nicknames her "the Duff," she throws her Coke in his face.

But things aren't so great at home right now, and Bianca is desperate for a distraction. She ends up kissing Wesley. Worse, she likes it. Eager for escape, Bianca throws herself into a closeted enemies-with-benefits relationship with him.

Until it all goes horribly awry. It turns out Wesley isn't such a bad listener, and his life is pretty screwed up, too. Suddenly Bianca realizes with absolute horror that she's falling for the guy she thought she hated more than anyone.

My Review:
This was a really fantastic book! Well, not the idea that people are labelled with new things like DUFF, since the old regulars aren't really offensive that I can think of off the top of my head, but DUFF kinda actually is, I mean, designated ugly fat friend? AKA friend who isn't as pretty as the others?

Really enjoyed reading about Bianca, her voice was just awesome, and there and in you face with some pretty great sarcasm! But also dealing with a not so easy home life, and having the whole DUFF label, and all that!

Then there's Wesley, and their relationship, because it's a pretty big part of the book! Their relationship kinda reminded me of the one from The Way I Loved You by Taylor Swift, it had elements from both the crazy relationship where there's love, and the steady one where there really isn't.

I really could relate to Bianca. I might not have close friends like she does (or really friends at all) but of them, I'm the plainest, in the worst shape. So while I know most people have insecurities, well, everyone things their own are the worst. Yeah. So really enjoyed reading this book!

This was a really great book, great contemporary, and I know I'll reread it!

Week 26 Review: Dark Taste of Rapture

From Goodreads:
New York Times bestselling author Gena Showalter captivates with a dark, tantalizing world of humans, otherworlders, and a powerful AIR agent consumed by his desire for a woman he can never have. . . .

With one caress, he can give unforgettable pleasure . . . or unending pain. . . .

Hector Dean is shaved, tattooed, and totally ripped—and he has a deadly secret. He is a walking weapon, capable of killing with a single brush of his fingertips. Little wonder he’s determined to remain on his own. But Noelle Tremain is a temptation like no other. She is beautiful and rich, with a party girl smile that hides a shocking vulnerability, and from the beginning his sizzling attraction to her is undeniable. For the first time, his stone-cold resistance is tested. But to be with her, he risks destroying her.

When a wealthy businessman is murdered in New Chicago’s seediest district, the two are partnered, and there’s no escaping what they both want: each other. Yet neither Hector nor Noelle knows what to fear more—the killer case, or their own lethal desires. . .

My Review:
Oh, what a wonderful, amazing, fantastic book! So great, and loveable, and utterly readable, entertaining, from Noelle and what she does, and Hector, who wants to protect Noelle from himself, but can't seem to stay away from him!

Starting just under a year before Ecstasy in Darkness, when Noella and Ava just started training to be AIR agents, but after they interact, and he rejects her, it jumps to just before Ava's wedding, which, for Noelle, means loosing the time she used to have with her best friend.

Loved their wedding, Noelle's thought that if he could, McKell would claim all the oxygen as his, because he's so possessive, Noelle and Ava's kiss, Dallas trying to get with Noelle at the wedding, but her trying to set him up with a friend, even though he was using his best moves on her.

I really hope that we get a 7th book soon, preferably Dallas's, to deal with the whole thing on whether or not his vision of Noelle and Hector is Dallas's doom or a good thing for him, and the whole Schon thing and when they come back to Earth, and we got to see Dare in this book, but I want to know more! So I guess Dare could have a book next, then Dallas!

Loved this book, and I really hope for more!

Week 26 Review: What Happened to Goodbye

From Goodreads:
Who is the real McLean?

Since her parents' bitter divorce, McLean and her dad, a restaurant consultant, have been on the move-four towns in two years. Estranged from her mother and her mother's new family, McLean has followed her dad in leaving the unhappy past behind. And each new place gives her a chance to try out a new persona: from cheerleader to drama diva. But now, for the first time, McLean discovers a desire to stay in one place and just be herself, whoever that is. Perhaps Dave, the guy next door, can help her find out.

My Review:
This was a pretty great book! I've only read a few Sarah Dessen books, but they've all been wonderful and I've enjoyed them, and this book was no exception! So good, and entertaining, and just a great contemporary book!

I really enjoyed reading about McLean, who's been running from her past since her parents divorced, with her dad, because of his job. And that works for McLean, so she's able to reinvent herself, but to the point where she doesn't really know who she is.

But then in this last move, with everything that's going on, and with Dave, well, this move is different. And it helped her deal with her issues, going as far as visiting her mom's house announced, and the fun times that was!

My only complaint is, that I really thought that the run down hotel was going to be a big plot point. Because when it was mentioned, it seemed like a pretty big thing. But then nothing really amounted of it, and I just wonder about that!

This was a really fantastic book, and I enjoyed it a lot!

Week 26 Review: The Golden Lily

From Goodreads:
Tough, brainy alchemist Sydney Sage and doe-eyed Moroi princess Jill Dragomir are in hiding at a human boarding school in the sunny, glamorous world of Palm Springs, California. The students--children of the wealthy and powerful--carry on with their lives in blissful ignorance, while Sydney, Jill, Eddie, and Adrian must do everything in their power to keep their secret safe. But with forbidden romances, unexpected spirit bonds, and the threat of Strigoi moving ever closer, hiding the truth is harder than anyone thought.

Populated with new faces as well as familiar ones, Richelle Mead's breathtaking Bloodlines series explores all the friendship, romance, battles, and betrayals that made the #1 New York Times bestselling Vampire Academy series so addictive. In this second book, the drama is hotter, the romances are steamier, and the stakes are even higher.

My Review:
I loved this book so much! Getting to know the gang some more, and relationships develop, evolve, or end, and so much was going on, and yeah, it was just so enticing! I had to read more! And I'm really liking this thing that going on between her and Adrian!

I loved Sydney's short relationship with Brayden, because you'd think since they're similar, they'd get along well together, but they don't! And the whole "organic certification process" whatever that is, and awesome being in the same paragraph, Sydney and Brayden fit pretty darn well together! Except there just wasn't that spark, so how they ended, well, it was a bit funny, that he thought she wasn't someone to rely on. So hilarious!

The whole plot line, with Trey, and how it turns out that he's part of a group that splintered off of the Alchemists, humans that know about the Moroi, Dhamphirs, and Strogri, and are actively hunting them, killing them. Yeah. And then Sydney gets tangled up in there!

The whole driving thing? With Adrian buying the car, and then Sydney teaching him how to drive because she has a thing for cars-and then it turns out that he could actually drive all along, and just pretended not to know, just so spend time with her? Just so freaking sweet!

Loved this book so much, and yeah, I can't wait for more!

Week 26 Review: Underworld

From Goodreads:
Seventeen-year-old Pierce Oliviera isn't dead.

Not this time.

But she is being held against her will in the dim, twilit world between heaven and hell, where the spirits of the deceased wait before embarking upon their final journey.

Her captor, John Hayden, claims it's for her own safety. Because not all the departed are dear. Some are so unhappy with where they ended up after leaving the Underworld, they've come back as Furies, intent on vengeance... on the one who sent them there and on the one whom he loves.

But while Pierce might be safe from the Furies in the Underworld, far worse dangers could be lurking for her there... and they might have more to do with its ruler than with his enemies.

And unless Pierce is careful, this time there'll be no escape.

My Review:
Oh, I just loved reading this book! I was waiting for it, Meg Cabot's next YA novel, the sequel to the amazing-ness that was Abandon! And this book just picked up where Abandon left off, and just kept going! So great to read!

And when I mean picked up where Abandon left off, I mean, like, less then 12 hours have passed since that ending! So we didn't miss anything, and yeah, then we got this story, and all the things that we learned, it was really great!

Like there were things about John's past, which was really great, because a past makes up a person, just as much as the potential for a future does! And we learn more about the new characters that are John's companions and friends! That was really great!

So much happens in this book, and yeah, a lot of it is developments that I know will effect Awaken, which just means that I want Awaken all the more! This book was just so good, every word was just epic to read!

Loved this, want more, want more, want more! It was over too quickly!

YA Historical Fiction Challenge Update 16

A Historical Fiction Challenge 2012 is hosted by YA Bliss, and it's a challenge to read a chosen amount of historical YA books.

OK, so this week I read Enchanted, and The False Princess.

Enchanted has the fairy tales and kings and queens. The False Princess has king/queen technology, and yeah, magic.

I now have 27 of 5 books read. And they are The Merchant's Daughter, Prophecy of the Sisters, The Pale Assassin, The Guardian Duke, The Luxe, Guardian of the Gate, Circle of Fire, Clockwork Angel, Clockwork Prince, Grave Mercy, The House of Dead Maids, The Girl in the Clockwork Collar, The Near Witch, Dragonswood, Saving Juliet, Darker Still, This Dark Endeavour, Dark Passage, Entwined, Shadows on the Moon, That Fatal Night, A Temptation of Angels, The Darkening Dream, The Goddess Legacy, The Queen's Lady, Enchanted, and The False Princess. Yep. Happy reading!

Follow that Blurb Reading Challenge Update 52

So I read nothing, and hopefully I'll have some news soon!

Here's the start up post with my reading journeys. This is a meme hosted by Reading With Tequila.

Last Letter, First Letter Reading Challenge Update 14

OK, so I have I've been doing some more reading, and I read Jealousy!

 Yep. Happy reading!

Here's the link to the original post with my journey.

What it is:

You pick a book, read it. Then you look at the last letter of the title, for example, "The Adventures of Tom Saywer." Then you take that last letter, and search you TBR piles for a book starting with the last letter, so coninuting the example, someone could read "Rotters" next, and then a title that starts with "s."

Rules:
1. Have fun!
2. Read!
3. The last letter of the book you read must be the first letter of the next book you read.
4. Words like "the," "a," "and," and those such don't count as the first letter.
5. If a letter becomes overused, like d, e, l, w, ext, and you run out of books that you really want to read for this challenge, cycle in letters that don't often get used like a, b, i, k, p, ext, and note what you cycle in, where!

Need motivation to write your reviews? Well, hopefully this will help, both with motivating your reviews to be written (with bribes from your library, and if you have the money, to buy more books as rewards) and to having other bloggers cheering you on, to comments on your reviews, so the goodwill is spread!

The bribes are inspired/ideas borrowed from The Reward Challenge hosted by Good Golly Miss Holly, and the way of linking up reviews are borrowed from Red House Books NetGalley challenge.

OK, rules.
1. Read a book, then write a review! And because you do this, you reward yourself with another book to read, and you can decide how many reviews you have to write to earn 1 book, like 1 review, 1 book, to 100 reviews, 1 book.
2. Link up on the 1st linky below your post (like this one) talking about your reviews you motivate yourself, and comment on other posts like yours  and they'll comment back! Put your name @ Your Blog, or at least your blog in the name, so to cut confusion.
3. When your reviews are posted, they can be added to the 2nd linky below, 1 review for free, and you can trade comments on other linked up reviews for more reviews linked up on the linky. For the title, put your blog - Title of the book you reviewed.

So hopefully this sounds like fun! And the more reviews you write, the better you feel, because once they're wrote, then people can see them, and see your work, and the author's work, and isn't that a great feeling?

Now for my personal part of this post. I motivated myself to write my review of Shadow Visions and Riser, so I have 6 of 25 reviews written!

And this week, I want to review Week 53 and 54. I really do! Again! And again!

OK, now tell your stories below in comments and blog posts!
