I Adopted a Cat-Meet Holly!

So I've been meaning to get my own pet for the longest time, basically since I moved out on my own. I really wanted a dog, since that's what I'm used to, but because I do live alone, I had a lot of negatives to overcome to adopt a dog. And my parents were really pushing for me to get a cat. So last Sunday, the local Humane Society was having a cat adoption event. It was a last minute decision to go-about 2 hours before the event ended. But we went, I met 3 cats, and decided to bring Holly home.

She's 1 1/2 years old, and she was brought to the society on Christmas Eve-thus her name-by, it turns out, one of my co-worker's neighbours, so that's a small world moment! So far, so good, though those first nights were a bit rough because she kept waking me up, but she settled, and that stopped, which was good.

It's going to be interesting to have her meet up with Jax, we've given her scent to him though a dress I wore while cuddling with her, and my bedding has to be soaked in his scent, so I'm going to see if the vet has any more advice.

I meant to write this post this earlier, but it's been a bit chaotic, because she is my first cat, and I've never had a cat as a family pet, either. So it's been an exciting and a bit scary process, and I can't wait to see what the future holds for us!

I'm Moving, An Update the First

So I meant to do this post a little sooner, but yeah. Very tired! We moved over all the rest of my stuff over in 2 more trips, which was really great, and had the truck returned on time. And yesterday I set up my computer setup, as well as unpack the bathroom and towels.

Today, was a really good day, I moved some things around (my bedroom is fairly filled to the brim now!) and swept, so now I have the doggies! At least till sometime tomorrow! My parents brought them over, the book room got organized, as well as the dining room (in which we stacked my little bookcases on top of each other.)

And I just finished unpacking all my YA hardcovers. I couldn't put them properly on the shelves because I'd broken some of the inserted bits that hold up the shelves. So now to do the YA paperbacks, which are the 2 collections in the book room, and then I can start on the living room and dining room, clearing that out, hopefully making some of the new bookcases, and this place will really come together!

But not much reading, though I've almost finished an audiobook from unpacking those hardcovers! What about you guys? Happy reading!

Moving Day!

So today is moving day, which means I'm not really going to be blogging. My review posts are scheduled, but I haven't written the reviews yet, because I'm ridiculously behind! And tehcnically we did do 3 truck loads yesterday, moved all the heavy stuff besides the bed, but now to move all my boxes of books, as well as the bookcases that we couldn't get to because of said boxes of books!

But internet is set up over at the new place, so hopefully once everything is moved and I have a moment, I'll get some blogging done to relax! Fingers crossed, because we have to return the truck by 12:30, and it's currently a little past quarter after 8 here!

Participating in Book Battle again this month! So even though I don't need to have a TBR in advance, well, I want to plan out what books I want to read, so I don't get hit the 5 freebie limit and not have a book from this list to read, or the end of the month and not have a book to read.

Dobby Update

So because today was a slightly big change for Dobby since he had his surgery-today is the first night without the Cone of Shame, which I'm sure if Dobby knew, that he'd be glad for. He doesn't get the stitches out until September 2nd, but the incision looks really good.

And I'm glad for this change, both for Dobby, and for me, because it's not too comfortable sleeping in a bed with that cone in it! What about you guys? Happy reading!

Dobby's Surgery

So I mentioned that Dobby was having surgery today. It was the 3rd time that he'd had cancer in this spot-so the 3rd time he had had a non-neutering, non-teeth cleaning (though he did get his teeth cleaned this time) surgery, going under anesthesia. And all 3 times, it was in the same spot. And he's 12 years old, so the risk was higher than usual. We weren't planning on having this 3rd surgery, because he is older, but the vet said at Dobby's last check up, that it would start affecting his quality of life soon, and if it was removed, he could have a longer life, so might as well do it now, when he is younger, because of the anesthesia, so we did. And I'm telling him now, like I told him after the previous surgery-No more cancer!

But got through it OK, and though he's already sneaked a jump onto furniture twice now, well, I'm so relieved that he got through it OK. He's already less groggy than he was when we brought him home.

This is him 2 hours after bringing him home:
And this is him half an hour ago, now. And it does show his stitches. I didn't notice any blood, but I am going to put a page jump here, just in case.

Book Battle August 2020 TBR

So I'm participating in Book Battle on Facebook. I participated last month, but I want to do a post about this month, because I want to find the books that fit the prompts now, so I can match them with my N.E.W.T.'s TBR, and read those first, because we only get 5 books that don't fit the prompts until we read half, so I want to get that quickly. So I have to get at least 7 or 8 books now. But I might do this each month, because that 5 books thing is around all the time, so it'd be nice to have those options out of the way!

5pts-Book with balloons on the cover - 10 Blind Dates by Ashley Elston (Probably. I'll see what the suggestions are) Scared Little Rabbits by A.V. Geiger
5pts-3 year old book (published in 2017) - Zero Repeat Forever by Gabrielle S. Prendergast
5pts-Book about a party - Deacon Locke Went to Prom by Brian Katcher
5pts-"Book" or "Battle" in the title - For Whom the Book Tolls by Laura Gail Black
5pts-Book about friends - I have an idea, but I'm not sure if it counts. That book has a synopsis that says "hardly friends." So figuring it doesn't count. That or Code Name Verity by Elizabeth Wein You Look Different in Real Life by Jennifer Castle
5pts-Book that makes you happy - I have an idea, but it's more a book that has me excited, not laughing. Approved! The Emperor's Wolves by Michelle Sagara
5pts-CRITERIA CHOICE 1 - Comic Book - Avatar: The Last Airbender: The Promise by Michael Dante DiMartino and by Gene Luen Yang (Maybe. If graphic novel counts for comic book. It was approved!)
5pts-CRITERIA CHOICE 2 - Less Than 500 Ratings - Master of One by Jaida Jones and Dani Bennett Bombshell by Rowan Maness - Currently has 9 ratings Currently has 94 ratings, and it's been released since 2017, vs. Master of One which hasn't been released yet!
10pts-CLUB READ 1 - Midnight Sun by Stephanie Meyer
10pts-CLUB READ 2 - Goddess in the Machine by Lora Beth Johnson (Maybe. Yes.)
10pts-Book published in August - Star Daughter by Shveta Thakrar The Silent Wife by Karin Slaughter
10pts-Book about bees - Need to see the suggestions. But if I don't feel interested in any of them, I'll skip this prompt, given all the books I need to read!
10pts-Book with confetti on the cover - The Love Curse of Melody McIntyre by Robin Talley
15pts-Book with a birthday in it - Need to see the suggestions Sky Without Stars by Jessica Brody & Joanne Rendell
20pts-Book about your team - Don't know what team I'm on yet. On Team Vengeful Spirit, so a book about ghosts. This Is Not a Ghost Story by Andrea Portes

I didn't get all of these prompts filled, but I have questions, and I need to see some suggestions because I can't find books to fill all of these prompts. Can't wait to read! What about you guys? Happy reading!

Am I Drowning In Books?

Yes, yes, it feels like I am. I just finished the Reading Rush, and I'm glad I switched out the books for the last 2 prompts, because between the two that I had, it was 900 pages left, and what I was was 600, so that was way more manageable. But I wanted to list out the books that I want to read, before the month is over. I'll put the ones that I most want/need to get to at the beginning, because I'm not going to finish all of these.

A Season of Daring Greatly by Ellen Emerson White-This book I'm reading for the Facebook group, Book Battle. I'm part of Team Baseball, and read a book about my team is the only one I haven't read yet. I'm going to read this next, because the Book Battle is only until the 26th, and I want to have read all of the prompts!

The Archive of the Forgotten by A. J. Hackwith-This book is Wheel of TBR pick, and it's a preemptive/trying out punishment. Since I'm not sure if I can get to The Falling in Love Montage by Ciara Smyth and I Come With Knives by S.A. Hunt, I need to read this book! But I want to read those other two, as well!

Next are 3 books that are all for the Continue the Series Readathon, that I also managed to get on the Wheel of TBR, and they are Truel1f3 by Jay Kristoff, Blood Red Road by Moira Young, and Red Sister by Mark Lawrence. Yeah, these have 2 reasons why I should read them, and they have to be read this month.

One book that I have to read this month is Phoenix Unbound by by Grace Draven, for multi-parts to a reason. Book 2 is on my N.E.W.T.'s TBR, so I have to read this before that. And also, August is ARC August, and I don't have this book as an ARC. All the more reason to read it before August!

Then there's this coming week of Wheel of TBR picks. I have them, and I won't put them here, because spoilers, and I'm not sure if I'm going to get to those last 2 before Sunday, so I might have a punishment book, but there's at least 3 books here.

Next are the remaining Make Your Myth-Taker books. I know, it ended in June, but I just want to finish reading these books! The ones I have left are Crier's War by Nina Varela, The Guinevere Deception by Kiersten White (This is also a Wheel of TBR book), Warcross by Marie Lu, Strange Grace by Tessa Gratton (This is also a Wheel of TBR book), These Rebel Waves by Sara Raasch, Caraval by Stephanie Garber, and The Cruel Prince by Holly Black. Well, that was less than I expected. I actually went back and took out the ones that I read, so it matches up, yeah! There's only 7 left! Yeah!

Finally, and the ones that are least likely to be read (all the above are priorities, these will only be bonus if I'm lucky enough to finish all of the above this month) are the back spins of the Wheel of TBR. And those are Sisters of Sword and Song by Rebecca Ross, From Blood and Ash by Jennifer L. Armentrout, Fortuna by Kristyn Merbeth, Kingdom of Souls by Rena Barron, We Hunt the Flame by Hafsah Faizal, Ultraviolet by R.J. Anderson, Twin Daggers by MarcyKate Connolly, The Summer Set by Aimee Agresti, Set Fire to the Gods by Sara Raasch and Kristen Simmons, Crownchasers by Rebecca Coffindaffer, Changes in Latitudes by Jen Malone, Warriors of Wing and Flame by Sara B. Larson (but this is now also N.E.W.T pick so I won't read it until August), Ghost Wood Song by Erica Waters, Among the Beasts and Briars by Ashley Poston, You Look Different in Real Life by Jennifer Castle, Dark Song by Christine Feehan, Labryinth Lost by Zoraida Córdova, Good Girls Lie by J.T. Ellison. Let me tell you, I've learned my lesson, I won't do any bonus spins anymore. But the books that are ARC's, I can put off until August. Though again, the N.E.W.T's have 36 prompts. In a 31 day month. So I don't know how many, if any, other books I'll be able to read.

Plus in August I'll still be doing Wheel of TBR, though I'm going try to fit as many as I can from the N.E.W.T's TBR. Or more ARC's, because I want to almost exclusively read ARC's in August. I just have so many ARC's to read!

And adding them all up, that's at least 35 books to read in the last 7 days of July. Which is why I'm most likely not going to read most, if any, of the back spins of the Wheel of TBR. And 18 of those are the ones I'm really aiming for. That's just over 2.5 books a day. And this next week, I'm only working 3 hours a day, all week. So is it doable? Well, I'm going to try! But can you understand the title now, given that's there's 35 books, just 5 days ago it was 42 with the Reading Rush books. Yeah. I'm crazy, and I'm kinda paying for it now.

Oh, and plus, I have to write this week's reviews, last weeks, and Week 24. Yeah. And all the rest of the blogging stuff, with Saturdays being the most labor intensive, what with the reviews to link up and such.

I'm going to try my best to read those 2.5+ books. I didn't really make this post to complain, but also, I wanted to see all these books in one place, and make sure I remembered them, because it would suck if I forgot one of them! But now to sleep, and onto another day, and more reading! What about you guys? Happy reading!

Do I Have that Book Tag

So I know this is goes easier in video format, but I don't do videos. Anyways. Here's a link to the original tag, all credit there! And I know that there's a sequel to this tag, but I watched a video that had the prompts, and so now I have an idea of them, so it wouldn't be fair to do it right now. Maybe in a month or two when I've forgotten them, because this was pretty fun!

I saw someone doing this challenge, and I played along for a bit, but I want to see how well I can do myself. So I got 5 questions in, in 1 minute.

1. Do you have a book with deckled edges? Acheron by Sherrilyn McQueen
2. Do you have a book with 3 or more people on the cover? Universal Alien by Gini Koch
3. Do you have a book based on another fictional story? Starcrossed by Josephine Angelini
4. Do you have a book with a title 10 letters long? Demon Crown by James Rollins
5. Do you have a book with a title that starts and ends with the same letter? Sea Glass by Maria V. Sndyer

For these next questions, I'll start a timer, read the question, think of a book, and stop it, marking the time, and then add it up when I'm done. Yeah.

6. Do you have a Mass Market Paperback book? Exit Strategy by Kelley Armstrong-0:02:05 seconds.
7. Do you have a book written by an author using a pen name? Evernight by Claudia Gray-0:02:23 seconds
8. Do you have a book with a character's name in the title? Garbiel's Inferno by Sylvain Reynard 0:10:12 seconds
9. Do you have a book with 2 maps in it? A Court of Thorns and Roses by Sarah J. Maas-0:52:18 seconds *1
10. Do you have a book that was turned into a TV show? Deja Dead by Kathy Reichs-0:01:58 seconds
11. Do you have a book written by someone who is originally famous for something else?  (celebrity/athlete/politician/tv personality...) Timeless by Alexandra Monir-0:09:23 seconds *2
12. Do you have a book with a clock on the cover? Clockwork Angel by Cassandra Clare-0:09:42 seconds
13. Do you have a poetry book?  No. 0:00:13 seconds.
14. Do you have a book with an award stamp on it? An Abundance of Katherines by John Green-0:00:30 seconds
15. Do you have a book written by an author with the same initials as you? Sins of the Angels by Linda Pitevin-0:55:42 seconds
16. Do you have a book of short stories? Corsets and Clockwork Anthology-0:02:21 seconds
17. Do you have a book that is between 500-510 pages long? The Invasion of Tearling by Ericka Johnson-1:16:32 seconds *3
18. Do you have a book that was turned into a movie? City of Bones by Cassandra Clare-0:00:41 seconds
19. Do you have a graphic novel? No. 0:00:30 seconds
20. Do you have a book written by 2 or more authors? The Blood Gospel by James Rollins and Rebecca Cantrell-0:01:49 seconds

*1: The first map is a magnified look of one part of the continent, the other page and map has the full continent, so it counts.
*2: I don't know if she was famous, per se, but she was a singer before she was an author, she just did a post about here.
*3: Technically, it's 511. But when I looked at the front, the first two pages were a map and a part one page, the writing started on page 3, so it counts, darn it!

4:46:19. Probably less, because during the video, I finished before the person did. And maybe it's unfair that my poetry and graphic novel questions were so easy, because no, I don't have any, I know I don't because I don't like poetry, and I'm not interested in graphic novels. I've only read a couple, and two was by a favourite author, and the others were in the Avatar universe. So I knew I didn't own any. And all of these books besides Starcrossed and An Abundance of Katherines are in my room, so that was easy to look and find them.  Technically City of Glass is usually in my book room, but I'm planning on reading it soon because it fills the prompt of what book was adapted, so it's currently in my bedroom.Yeah. So that was a bit hilarious to me and made it super easy to answer the question.

What about you guys? Happy reading!

Well, I made another Book Outlet order during the boxing day sale. Actually, 2. And I Moved

I believe I mentioned that I was moving. Not far, just a different room in the house. Well, that happened today. Well, yesterday, since it's now the 15th.

I did it almost entirely by myself, I only had help taking apart my bed and putting it back together, everything else, I did. Including 3 dressers, 5 small bookcases and all the books in them as well as the books that were in my big bookcase that got moved out of my room, my bed, and other random things.

I still have a few pieces of furniture to move, like my desk, and empty out my closet and bathroom, but the essentials are in the new room, where I'm now. Boy, though, I'm tired! Time to relax and sleep before finishing it off!

My Book Outlet Black Friday Order

Well, I've made another big Book Outlet order. This time it was for their Black Friday 30% off sale, so I got a ton of hardcovers, the ones that have been in my saved for later section of the cart for multiple orders now. I got about 70 books (again)  and here's the before:
And here's the after of the books I have read:

As you can see, I have more books that I haven't read then ones that I have, so yeah, lots of new reading to do, and lots of books that I've planned on reading, but haven't yet, so hopefully I'll read these books soon!

What I've Been Doing

So I've kinda fallen behind on blogging. My last 24 hour reading challenge failed. Well, it's because (besides Black Friday stress) is that I'm moving. Not far, I'm still staying in this house, but my brother is moving out, and his room is bigger and has the laundry, as well as a 3 piece bathroom instead of a 2 piece. Anyways.

I'm not packing up much, since it's just going down a level, and I just move my room around just before. But it had me thinking about how I'm using my space, both bookshelves that need walls, and then other stuff. And since I have a book room, and my shelves were getting pretty full, I wasn't using that room as well as I could have. So I moved my final big bookshelf from my bedroom where it's been since before we moved it-it was the first piece of furniture I moved over here, before we were officially moving in, and it hadn't moved since then, the only piece of furniture in this house that can say that, so that's occasion in my mind-into my book room, so I could put my YA paperbacks on it.

But first I decided that I should move 2 of the shelves against the wall where I initially was going to put bedroom one against. They're maybe a smidgen taller, but not as wide, so they both fit against the wall-which is the shorter one, so now that the bedroom shelf is against the wall where they were, there's room for another one about their size, too. Yeah!

Which comes to say that I have been moving furniture around for the past 2 days, and then moving books. And making room for the newer books, though my Black Friday order is coming in, and so I'll have more too add.

And what of the books that were on the bedroom bookshelf? Well, I want them in my room, so while I'm waiting to move (and to get a new bookshelf) they're sitting on my desk. Come see:

And that's what 1 big bookshelf of mass market paperbacks looks like. 4 across, and 5 deep, plus that 1 row at the end. And in the two desk bits. And books that were on top of the bookcase are that far row, and underneath the desk. Yeah. Lots of books!

So yeah, that's what I've been doing lately. I'm pretty much done for now, until my brother moves out so I can move in, because like I said, I'm not packing things up. So hopefully I'll be able to catch up with blogging shortly.

My Epic BookOutlet Order

Yeah, I recently made my biggest BookOutlet order, like, 70 books big, snagged during the day with the YA 10% off sale. Here's the before:
 And here's the after:

Books to the left, I haven't read. And the stacks on the far right, I have read before. At least there's more books that I haven't read, vs ones that I have. So that's a good thing! But yeah, there are a lot of books, and I'm really happy! Can't wait to read these books, especially the ones that I had ARC's for, so I can actually read them. Can't wait!

What about you guys? Happy reading!

Searching for Book Unicorns

Have you ever found a book after it was published, and you can't find a copy? Or you knew about a book, wanted to get it, but didn't, and again, you now can't find a copy? Well, I have a few of those. And I've also finally found some of them.

Like, I really, really want the international paperback edition of War Hawk by James Rollins and Grant Blackwood. Right now, the only copy available on Amazon is like, $700. No way am I paying that! But I want a copy that goes with my collection so badly! And if you know of a copy, if you have a copy to sell, please, please, contact me!

Some others are Rebel Belle by Rachel Hawkins in hardcover, Hex Hall by Rachel Hawkins in hardcover, The Wrath & the Dawn by Renee Ahdieh in hardcover.

I've also finally found some of my unicorns, such as Die for Me and If I Should Die by Amy Plum in hardcover, The Kiss of Deception by Mary E. Pearson. Go used books sold on Amazon!

What are your guy's book unicorns, found and still searching for? Happy reading!

Meet Our New Dog!!!!

So if you've read my blog, you'll know about my dogs, Dobby and Winky. And maybe you read that we had to unexpectedly put down Winky at the beginning of the year.

Well, Dobby was alone for the first time, so we decided we were going to get two puppies in a couple months, after my mom got back from a work trip. Plans changed, however, when on the Humane Society website, was a Boston Terrier dog. So here's Jax, who is a Boston Terrier Pug cross!

He's 6 years old with his birthday in April, and overweight, about the same or more than Dobby, but he has a smaller body. We didn't change his name, my mom likes it. I feel weird, because I've only had Dobby and Winky, but I'll get used to it. We only saw him the website yesterday, and called and emailed, and they gave us some information about him, and my parents went to see him yesterday, and it went well, and all that would have to happen for the adoption to be approved was for his and Dobby's meeting to go well.

So we had that meeting today, and I was so nervous! Dobby was very hesitant and pretty growly, but Jax was fine, and so we were approved to take him home! So it's only been a day that we've known about his existence, but I'm glad he's now a part of our family!

When we first brought him inside, he was huffing and puffing, and running around everywhere. It took a bit to calm him down, but he settled. He's only going to be sleeping over at the suite for the first month, and spend most of his time there, to get used to his new home. I can't wait for him to be acclimatized to us so he'll sleep with me and Dobby. He does have a small nose/snout, and combined with his weight, he does snore a lot, and make some different sounds, but yeah, he's a cutie!

So welcome to the family, Jax!

My Lifestyle Change(s)

So if you come around my blog pretty regularly, you'll have seen that I've fallen behind on adding content to my meme posts, and I'm a few weeks behind on reviews, again, boo! Well, there's a reason for that. Said reason is also meaning I'm reading less, which I despair of, but overall, it's a good change for me.

That reason is that I'm changing my lifestyle, as you might surmise from the title of this blog post :P

So, a little backstory on me. When I was young, I was fairly active, I was a part of soccer team (not competitive, even then, I was bigger than the average child), I biked to middle school because the school was just down the road from me.

But like I said, I was bigger. And I'm fairly short, only 5'5, so it's not like the weight is from a proportioned body. As I grew older, I gained more weight, sporty activity, most actives of any kind became harder, so I stopped besides what was mandatory in gym class, and that was hard, my least favourite class in school.

I'm now in my 20's, and I'm very overweight. I don't like the way I look, so you won't find a picture of me in my profiles, in social media. I think there's one picture of me on Facebook, but that's a group picture, and if you don't know who the people are, it'll be a bit hard to put a face to the name. I have body image issues, and various health problems that I won't get into because TMI and privacy, since I think I'm baring a lot of my soul here, I don't need to air out those problems!)

So the changes I'm making, is that first off, I've started to exercise. My family has some various things like a stationary bike and a treadmill, which I've started using. I've also bought some various equipment, like weights, a yoga mat, stuff like that. And I'm trying to use them fairly regularly, and have something of a regimen. So that's one way that I'm trying to lose weight.

Another, which is the biggie, according to various research I've done on the research done about weight loss, is that I'm eating better food, and I'm eating less of it. I have a complicated relationship with food, and I eat when I'm not hungry, and I didn't eat very healthy things, mostly grains, and I ate too much of it.

So I've cut down on what I'm eating to a more average amount that I'm mostly never hungry (a few times, but not often and not very long), and still getting in my nutrients (especially now that I'm eating them!) and be able to lose weight.

I'm also drinking a lot more water, which I dislike, but I chug it, basically, so I get the fluids in, and it doesn't take long with something that I don't like the taste of, because it has no taste. I tried Mio, but a) it was kinda expensive and b) I found out it has stuff that's not good for you.

I'm eating more fruits and vegetables. I'm eating less grains. I'm also trying to eat things that have fewer ingredients, and that more likely than not, I know what they are. I'm also tracking everything that I eat, that I drink, and all the exercise I'm getting with an app.

So why does this mean you've fallen behind, I don't know if I hope you wonder, or not. Well, first off, I had to do a ton of research, finding out what was the best course of action, and learning more about eating healthy and exercising. Because this is going to take a while to get to my target weight, as well as, to make it a lifestyle change, so that when (because it's not going to be an if) I get to that point, I don't want to slide back. And then I had to implement those changes, and some are happening sooner than others.

So I think I've mostly gotten over the research part, which included a deep dive into tons of articles and YouTube videos, and which took up the most time. Actually implementing the changes, eating better and exercising, takes less time, so hopefully I'll get into the swing of the blogging things shortly.

I've also recently (as in the past 4 or so hours) become interested in taking better care of my skin, which I really need to do, what with the issues I have. So I've done some research, and hopefully I won't have to do too, too much before I get going. I already starting doing what I can with what I have from previous attempts that I've done.

I debated whether or not to write this post, after all, it's the Internet, and anything that I put out there is going to be out there, for anyone to find, for basically forever. But I wanted to mark it. I've also debated starting a seperate blog for my weight loss, fitness starting, lifestyle change stuff, because the words I'm writing, well, they're not about books, and this has been a book blog since I started it in March 2009 (which, wow, is a long time! Coming up on 10 years. Wow!) Please comment if you'd prefer a) no more lifestyle changes, b) lifestyle changes on this blog, or c) lifestyle changes on a new blog. I'd really like to know!

My goal is to hit my target weight of 150 pounds by next September. Hopefully I'll make it, and then I'll start posting some pictures of myself. It'll be totally weird!

Wow, if you made through this whole blog post, reading everything, congrats. You've won the dubious honor of knowing a bit more about me. Wrapping things up! What about you guys? Happy reading!
