Imposter by Jill Hathaway
Expected Publication: March 26th 2013
From Goodreads:
What if a killer took control of you?

Vee Bell’s gift (or curse) of “sliding”—slipping into the mind of another person and experiencing life, briefly, through his or her eyes—has been somewhat under control since she unwillingly witnessed the horrific deaths of her classmates six months ago.

But just as things are getting back to normal, Vee has a very bizarre experience: she loses consciousness and finds herself in a deserted area, at the edge of a cliff, with the broken body of the boy who took advantage of her on the rocks below.

As Vee finds herself in stranger and stranger situations with no memory of getting there, she begins to suspect that someone she knows has the ability to slide—and that this “slider” is using Vee to exact revenge on his or her enemies.

Oh, sounds really good! I want to read it now! What are your guy's picks? Happy reading!

Broken Wings: Review

OK, so I got 19 posts in 7 days, another slow week, but it's the official reading week, and lots of great books! Can't wait for this next week, either!

So this week I want to read  Rivals and RetributionSilent in the GraveSilent in the SanctuarySilent on the MoorThe Dark Enquiry, The Indigo Spell, Scarlet, Shades of Earth, and Dangerous Boy.
"Let the wicked be ashamed, and let them be silent in the grave." These ominous words are the last threat that Sir Edward Grey receives from his killer. Before he can show them to Nicholas Brisbane, the private inquiry agent he has retained for his protection, he collapses and dies at his London home, in the presence of his wife, Julia, and a roomful of dinner guests.

Prepared to accept that Edward's death was due to a long-standing physical infirmity, Julia is outraged when Brisbane visits and suggests that her husband was murdered. It is a reaction she comes to regret when she discovers damning evidence for herself, and realizes the truth.

Determined to bring the murderer to justice, Julia engages the enigmatic Brisbane to help her investigate Edward's demise. Dismissing his warnings that the investigation will be difficult, if not impossible, Julia presses forward, following a trail of clues that lead her to even more unpleasant truths, and ever closer to a killer who waits expectantly for her arrival.
Fresh from a six-month sojourn in Italy, Lady Julia returns home to Sussex to find her father's estate crowded with family and friends-- but dark deeds are afoot at the deconsecrated abbey, and a murderer roams the ancient cloisters. Much to her surprise, the one man she had hoped to forget--the enigmatic and compelling Nicholas Brisbane--is among her father's houseguests... and he is not alone. Not to be outdone, Julia shows him that two can play at flirtation and promptly introduces him to her devoted, younger, titled Italian count.

But the homecoming celebrations quickly take a ghastly turn when one of the guests is found brutally murdered in the chapel, and a member of Lady Julia's own family confesses to the crime. Certain of her cousin's innocence, Lady Julia resumes her unlikely and deliciously intriguing partnership with Nicholas Brisbane, setting out to unravel a tangle of deceit before the killer can strike again. When a sudden snowstorm blankets the abbey like a shroud, it falls to Lady Julia and Nicholas Brisbane to answer the shriek of murder most foul.
Despite his admonitions to stay away, Lady Julia arrives in Yorkshire to find Brisbane as remote and maddeningly attractive as ever. Cloistered together, they share the moldering house with the proud but impoverished remnants of an ancient family: the sort that keeps their bloodline pure and their secrets close. Lady Allenby and her daughters, dependent upon Brisbane and devastated by their fall in society, seem adrift on the moor winds, powerless to change their fortunes. But poison does not discriminate between classes....

A mystery unfolds from the rotten heart of Grimsgrave, one Lady Julia may have to solve alone, as Brisbane appears inextricably tangled in its heinous twists and turns. But blood will out, and before spring touches the craggy northern landscape, Lady Julia will have uncovered a Gypsy witch, a dark rider and a long-buried legacy of malevolence and evil.
Partners now in marriage and in trade, Lady Julia and Nicholas Brisbane have finally returned from abroad to set up housekeeping in London. But merging their respective collections of gadgets, pets and servants leaves little room for the harried newlyweds themselves, let alone Brisbane's private enquiry business.

Among the more unlikely clients: Julia's very proper brother, Lord Bellmont, who swears Brisbane to secrecy about his case. Not about to be left out of anything concerning her beloved—if eccentric—family, spirited Julia soon picks up the trail of the investigation.

It leads to the exclusive Ghost Club, where the alluring Madame Séraphine holds evening séances…and not a few powerful gentlemen in thrall. From this eerie enclave unfolds a lurid tangle of dark deeds, whose tendrils crush reputations and throttle trust.

Shocked to find their investigation spun into salacious newspaper headlines, bristling at the tension it causes between them, the Brisbanes find they must unite or fall. For Bellmont's sake- and more- they'll face myriad dangers born of dark secrets, the kind men kill to keep….
In the aftermath of a forbidden moment that rocked Sydney to her core, she finds herself struggling to draw the line between her Alchemist teachings and what her heart is urging her to do. Then she meets alluring, rebellious Marcus Finch--a former Alchemist who escaped against all odds, and is now on the run. Marcus wants to teach Sydney the secrets he claims the Alchemists are hiding from her. But as he pushes her to rebel against the people who raised her, Sydney finds that breaking free is harder than she thought. There is an old and mysterious magic rooted deeply within her. And as she searches for an evil magic user targeting powerful young witches, she realizes that her only hope is to embrace her magical blood--or else she might be next.
The fates of Cinder and Scarlet collide as a Lunar threat spreads across the Earth...

Cinder, the cyborg mechanic, returns in the second thrilling installment of the bestselling Lunar Chronicles. She's trying to break out of prison—even though if she succeeds, she'll be the Commonwealth's most wanted fugitive.

Halfway around the world, Scarlet Benoit's grandmother is missing. It turns out there are many things Scarlet doesn't know about her grandmother or the grave danger she has lived in her whole life. When Scarlet encounters Wolf, a street fighter who may have information as to her grandmother's whereabouts, she is loath to trust this stranger, but is inexplicably drawn to him, and he to her. As Scarlet and Wolf unravel one mystery, they encounter another when they meet Cinder. Now, all of them must stay one step ahead of the vicious Lunar Queen Levana, who will do anything for the handsome Prince Kai to become her husband, her king, her prisoner.
Amy and Elder have finally left the oppressive walls of the spaceship Godspeed behind. They're ready to start life afresh--to build a home--on Centauri-Earth, the planet that Amy has traveled 25 trillion miles across the universe to experience.

But this new Earth isn't the paradise Amy had been hoping for. There are giant pterodactyl-like birds, purple flowers with mind-numbing toxins, and mysterious, unexplained ruins that hold more secrets than their stone walls first let on. The biggest secret of all? Godspeed's former passengers aren't alone on this planet. And if they're going to stay, they'll have to fight.

Amy and Elder must race to discover who--or what--else is out there if they are to have any hope of saving their struggling colony and building a future together. They will have to look inward to the very core of what makes them human on this, their most harrowing journey yet. Because if the colony collapses? Then everything they have sacrificed--friends, family, life on Earth--will have been for nothing.

FUELED BY LIES.
RULED BY CHAOS.

Week 8 Review: Debris Dreams

From Goodreads:
2068
1.5 million kilometers above the surface of the Earth

Drusilla Xao has only seen a tree in movies and vid-games. She has never breathed air that wasn't recycled, re-filtered, and re-used a hundred times over again. She has never set foot on the Earth.

And now she never will.

When a terrorist attack by a radical separatist group on Luna destroys the space elevator that had called so many – including her parents – to live permanently in space, Dru is cut off from any hope of ever reaching Earth and her beloved girlfriend, Sarah. The Chinese-American Alliance declares immediate war on the rebels and conscripts everyone they can get their hands on…including Dru.

Cast adrift, forced to become a soldier, trapped in a nightmare of vacuum and loneliness, Dru's training will help her survive, but only Sarah will be able to bring her home.

My Review:
This was a really fantastic Dystopia book! I enjoyed the world, and the characters tat inhabited it, they were just so great to read about! And this book had diversity, because of hte relationship between Dru and Sarah! So that was really great!

Dru's never set foot on earth. And when the space elevator is destroyed, her life is changed forever, because she's conscripted to be a solider. Which really sucks, when all she really wants is to meet Sarah in person.

Reading this book, I really kinda hated the CAA, they shouldn't have ever had the power to conscript people into a war that was about this. I was on the side of the Loonies-they were right, they just went the absolutely wrong way about it!

I loved reading the ending! That Dru gets what she wants, and gets to meet Sarah, which had been what had gotten her through the whole experience/ordeal. That the good guys won, that was such a great ending!

I enjoyed this book a lot, it was really great and fun to read!

Week 8 Review: Parallel Visions

From Goodreads:
Visions can kill you. Would you risk your life to save someone else’s?

Kate sees psychic visions of the future and the past—but only when she's having an asthma attack. When she "sees" her sister being beaten, she needs more visions to try to save her, along with a suicidal classmate—but triggering her asthma could kill her. Parallel Visions is the story of one brave, caring girl whose unusual gifts put her own life in danger.

My Review:
Yes! This book was just so awesome! I'm lucky to have gotten a copy of it from NetGalley, and yeah, I enjoyed it a lot! It was really good, and entertaining, and I just wanted to read more! I just really enjoyed this story a lot!

Kate is different. When she has asthma attacks, she has visions. And yeah, these attacks could kill her. But yet, she has a want, a need, to help people. Like her sister, like Gil's sister. People that need help, whether or not they need it it yet, because some of it's future stuff.

I enjoyed the mystery in this book a lot, and then the romance, and how it all combined, to the ending, because it was really good. I didn't like her step-brother, he wasn't very nice, so yeah, while I'm sad for her sister, I'm glad he's getting arrested. I just wish we could've seen it!

This book had a really great ending, it was a bit open, but seeing as it's the beginning of a series, well, we hopeful should be getting more books. And I'm really hoping for more, to see Kate use her gift some more, and see her with Gil! I want more!

I really enjoyed this book a lot, it did deal with some tough issues, but it was a really fantastic book! I really, really, really want more!

Week 8 Review: Meridian

From Goodreads:
Half-human, half-angel, Meridian Sozu has a dark responsibility.

Sixteen-year-old Meridian has been surrounded by death ever since she can remember. As a child, insects, mice, and salamanders would burrow into her bedclothes and die. At her elementary school, she was blamed for a classmate's tragic accident. And on her sixteenth birthday, a car crashes in front of her family home—and Meridian's body explodes in pain.

Before she can fully recover, Meridian is told that she's a danger to her family and hustled off to her great-aunt's house in Revelation, Colorado. It's there that she learns that she is a Fenestra—the half-angel, half-human link between the living and the dead. But Meridian and her sworn protector and love, Tens, face great danger from the Aternocti, a band of dark forces who capture vulnerable souls on the brink of death and cause chaos.

My Review:
So I loved reading this book! It was different, and so awesome to read! The idea of fenestra's, well, was really awesome, though it's going to be hard journey for Meridian, as this book illustrated, and this is just the beginning!

So it would suck that for your whole life, for dead and dying things to be attracted to you, to the point where your family says that your a danger to them, and you need to leave, to go to someone that you've never really met. That would suck. But Meridian deals with it!

I enjoyed these characters Meridian, who's gone through all of this not knowing what was going on. Tens, the guy that is connected to her, for more then a romantic reason, for practical purposes, and her great aunt, who's lived this long for Meridian to be ready for what's coming.

Because something big, dark, and bad is coming. And it sucks that Meridian has to deal with it, but someone has to. And a lot of awful things happen in this book, from the train wreck, the mob, the fire, her aunt's death, and having to run away. But there's hope for the future!

Such a fantastic book, and I'm so glad that it's a series, because that means that we get more, yeah!

Week 8 Review: Blood Rights

From Goodreads:
Rebellion has a price.

The lacy gold mapped her entire body. A finely wrought filigree of stars, vines, flowers, butterflies, ancient symbols and words ran from her feet, up her legs, over her narrow waist, spanned her chest and finished down her arms to the tips of her fingers.

Born into a life of secrets and service, Chrysabelle's body bears the telltale marks of a comarré—a special race of humans bred to feed vampire nobility. When her patron is murdered, she becomes the prime suspect, which sends her running into the mortal world...and into the arms of Malkolm, an outcast vampire cursed to kill every being from whom he drinks.

Now, Chrysabelle and Malkolm must work together to stop a plot to merge the mortal and supernatural worlds. If they fail, a chaos unlike anything anyone has ever seen will threaten to reign.

My Review:
So this was an utterly fantastic book! I enjoyed reading it so much, it was so entertaining and great, and different and original, and I'm so glad that it's a series, because that means more time in this world, with these characters! Which is the best!

This world of vampires, and of Comarre, humans that are bred to feed vampire nobility, was just so fascinating! And Chrysabelle is a Comarre, and Malkom is a vampire. But a vampire cursed, and that complicates things!

So the fact that it's a vampire book, and a dystopian book, well, I've read a few like that, but they were YA, I hadn't read an adult version of those elements. And what with the difference of the vampires, well, that was really fantastic!

Really enjoyed that climax! There was a lot going on-like her aunt-and there's a reason why it's a series. so not all of the threads were completely tied, so I can't wait to see how they're going to be death with, and the new ones that are going to be introduced!

Such a great book, and I can't wait to read more of this series!

Week 8 Review: Pretty Little Liars

From Goodreads:
Three years ago, Alison disappeared after a slumber party, not to be seen since. Her friends at the elite Pennsylvania school mourned her, but they also breathed secret sighs of relief. Each of them guarded a secret that only Alison had known. Now they have other dirty little secrets, secrets that could sink them in their gossip-hungry world. When each of them begins receiving anonymous emails and text messages, panic sets in. Are they being betrayed by some one in their circle? Worse yet: Is Alison back? A strong launch for a suspenseful series.

My Review:
So I've been watching the TV show, so I decided that I really had to read the book series that it was based off of! And that was really great decision, because this was such a great, creepy, dark and mysterious book! So enjoyable!

I found it just so many things that these girls would make mistakes, get blackmailed for them, and then make some more mistakes! It's half, didn't you learn from the past experiences, and we're human, and we do make mistakes, and all that complicated stuff!

One thing that I really liked about this book vs. the show, was that we got thoughts from the characters in the book that we didn't get in the show, because of the different media formats. So that was a great plus for the book!

This is the start of the series. So the mystery has just begun, and all the twists and turns that are going to come, I can't wait to read them, because I know they're going to be awesome, and thrilling! Evil waiting to getting around to that!

This was a pretty great book, and I enjoyed it a lot!

Week 8 Reviews: Perfect Cover, Killer Spirit

From Goodreads:
Bayport High operates like any other high school--jocks at the top, outsiders at the bottom, and everyone else in between. Enter Toby Klein, a sophomore computer hacker who doesn't play well with others. She has zero school spirit, a black belt in karate, and what her guidance counselor calls an attitude problem. She's the last person you'd expect to be invited to join the varsity cheerleading squad.

But things are different at Bayport.

Bayport's varsity cheer squad is made up of the hottest of the hot. But this A-list is dangerous in more ways than one. The Squad is actually a cover for the most highly trained group of underage government operatives the United States has ever assembled. Athletically, they're unmatchable, though they make it all look easy on the field. Mentally, they're exceptional--but with one flash of their gorgeous smiles, you'll completely forget that. Socially, they're gifted, so they can command and manipulate any situation. And above all, they have the perfect cover, because, beyond herkies and highlights, no one expects anything from a cheerleader.

Toby Klein might not seem like the most likely recruit, but she's never been one to turn down a challenge. If she can handle the makeover, Bayport Hight may just have found its newest cheerleader.

From Goodreads:
Saying Toby Klein is an unlikely cheerleader is like saying Paris Hilton might be into guys--understatement of the year. But the varsity squad at Bayport High gives new meaning to the phrase All-American, and Toby's double life as a varsity cheerleader and a government operative means balancing protocol, pep rallies, computer hacking, and handsprings.

Now something's about to go down in Bayport, and the Big Guys Upstairs need to know what. The Squad is on the case, but it looks like this mission could put the "l" in lethal. And if the spy business doesn't kill Toby, it's starting to look like Brooke, the team's captain, might. The nominations are in for homecoming court, and rumor has it that Toby is the unlikely front-runner for queen.

Terrorist threat? Bloody mission gone wrong? Demented squad captain?
Bring it on.

My Review:
It was just so darned great to read these books! I love reading Jennifer Lynn Barnes books, and these were something else! So enjoyable, and just so freaking awesome! I loved the voice of Toby, an unlikely cheerleaders-but Bayport High cheerleaders aren't like the others!

The fact that the cheerleaders are spies, well, that's a really fantastic twist! Nobody would expect it, and teenage girls are just about everywhere, and they're not really conspicuous because there's such a common occurrence, so whoever came up with it was pretty smart!

I loved Toby's voice! It was just so snarky, and readable! So awesome to read, and it was a part of her character, which we grew to know over the course of these two books! And it's just something that I love to read about!

I would really, really, really love a 3rd book! There's just so much that could be in a 3rd book-her boyfriend finding out the true nature of the squad, which would be especially problematic. Or that one cheerleader who wanted to be on the squad...I would love another book!

Reading these books was just the best, and I just really want a 3rd book!

Week 8 Review: Dark Road to Darjeeling

From Goodreads:
After eight idyllic months in the Mediterranean, Lady Julia Grey and her detective husband are ready to put their investigative talents to work once more. At the urging of Julia's eccentric family, they hurry to India to aid an old friend, the newly widowed Jane Cavendish. Living on the Cavendish tea plantation with the remnants of her husband's family, Jane is consumed with the impending birth of her child--and with discovering the truth about her husband's death. Was he murdered for his estate? And if he was, could Jane and her unborn child be next?

Amid the lush foothills of the Himalayas, dark deeds are buried and malicious thoughts flourish. The Brisbanes uncover secrets and scandal, illicit affairs and twisted legacies. In this remote and exotic place, exploration is perilous and discovery, deadly. The danger is palpable and, if they are not careful, Julia and Nicholas will not live to celebrate their first anniversary.

My Review:
Man, I loved reading this book! It's the first one that they're married the whole book, and it was just so good! The dynamic, it didn't really change or shift, it evolved, because they have the physical side that has been denied for years. And all that stuff. So it was so great to read this book!

Side note, wouldn't it be wonderful if the average person could go on an 8 month long honeymoon? But I think the world would crumble just a bit if the average person did so! So they're pretty lucky that they were able to do that!

This book, the mystery is personal, again. Because Jane, who used to be lovers with Julia's sister, her husband was possibly murdered. So there was that. And there was the fact that Brisbane's dad was there. And meeting him, that's been a want of mine, so it was great that we got that!

Julia's become quite a detective over the course of the series! I would never have guessed it was that guy! This mystery was just kinda sad, because there was so much death, and it was all pretty pointless. And that's just sad, you know?

Such a fantastic book, and I need to read this series some more!

Broken Wings: Review and Giveaway

From Goodreads:
Giant angels with metal wings and visible song. A blind demon restored from the pit of darkness. And a girl who has never felt more broken.

Brielle sees the world as it really is: a place where the Celestial exists side by side with human reality. But in the aftermath of a supernatural showdown, her life begins to crumble. Her boyfriend, Jake, is keeping something from her—something important. Her overprotective father has started drinking again. He’s dating a much younger woman who makes Brielle’s skin crawl, and he’s downright hostile toward Jake. Haunting nightmares keep Brielle from sleeping, and flashes of Celestial vision keep her off kilter.

What she doesn’t know is that she’s been targeted. The Prince of Darkness himself has heard of the boy with healing in his hands and of the girl who sees through the Terrestrial Veil. When he plucks the blind demon, Damien, from the fiery chasm and sends him back to Earth with new eyes, the stage is set for a cataclysmic battle of good versus evil.

Then Brielle unearths the truth about her mother’s death and she must question everything she ever thought was true.

Brielle has no choice. She knows evil forces are converging and will soon rain their terror down upon the town of Stratus. She must master the weapons she’s been given. She must fight.

But can she fly with broken wings?

My Review:
I enjoyed this book. There were parts where the church stuff seemed a bit much, and while it is a middle book in a series, we did learn a whole bunch of things, like what happened with her Mom, and yeah, overall, it was a good book!

There's a new girl in town, Olivia, though technically she's not a girl, since she's dating Brielle's dad. And the halo didn't like her, neither did Brielle. And then Jake became secretive, and her dad started drinking again. Basically, her life's going downhill, and fast. There were some good, happy moments in this book, but they were tinged with some dark moments, too.

One thing I have to say, is that this cover isn't as pretty/eye-popping as the first one. And there doesn't seem to be really anything to link Angel Eyes to Broken Wings (And the 3rd book, Dark Halo, which has a similar cover to this one) besides the fact that they both have angels/angel imagery, but different styles, and I checked, and there's no similar cover for Angel Eyes, which for a reader who doesn't know that this series is linked (beyond that it says that it says it's a book in a series) then they might be a bit confused, because there is little to no mention of what was mentioned in the first book, which, personally, for me, since I read so much, and it's been so long since I read the first book, well, it was harder to get into. I got over it, but like I said, I read a lot of books, so this happens a lot to me.

At the end, well, can I say cliffhanger? What with what was going on, and all that was revealed, and what happened, that was pretty much non-stop action or conflict, that was a pretty amazing ending! Which set up for a spectacular finale, and it sounds like it's going to be! Can't wait!

This was a pretty great book. Things happened, things evolved, and yeah, it was just really good. Check it out!
