Week 11 Review: The Body Market

From Goodreads:
In the tradition of M. T. Andersons Feed and Scott Westerfelds Uglies, this heart-pounding sequel to Unplugged continues the series that Kass Morgan, New York Times bestselling author of The 100, called chilling and addictive.

Skylar Cruz found her sister in the Real World—only to learn that her sister has betrayed her and put everyone in the App World in danger. The Body Market is now open for business and everyone still plugged into the App World is for sale.

Shaken by the betrayal of everyone she trusted, Skylar is through being a pawn. She may be the only one who can stop what her family started. And she has to do it before the App World runs out of time.

Week 50 Review: Insurrection

From Goodreads:
Intercepted Broadcast 2190

The virus ran swiftly on the hot summer breeze. Unseen. Unheard. Unknown. It swept through the entire earth in a matter of months, having mercy on no one. Young—old—it didn’t matter.

Brought to us by the Drabs, it was the last thing we expected. But the Drabs knew. They even fought a war over whether or not they should save us.

In the end, it was decided that we were diseased insects who were unfit to breathe their air.

Our air.

So they left the human race to die a miserable death of agonizing pain. Left us with no doctors or medicine. Their plan was to rid the earth of us and to take our home as their own.

What they never expected was the change that would come after the plague. We didn’t all die as they'd planned. Those under the age of twenty somehow managed to survive the disease.

We managed to pull through it, even alone, and we learned to hide ourselves while our bodies changed. Still human, but now something else. Something more powerful. More intuitive.

More pissed off.

We're still here, on this earth, and we're not leaving. This is our home.

Our planet.

Drabs take note and learn to be afraid. You've had a hundred years here on earth, but now your time here is done.

You called us rodents. Insects. Diseased animals. The scraps of humanity—and that, my Drab friend, we certainly are. But what you should have realized is that you can't kill a Scrap. Humanity isn't dead. Not by a longshot. We still have our soldiers and we have our conviction.

Most of all, we have hope.

And we will win in the end. Whatever it takes. Whatever it costs. We won't allow you to take our planet from us. So count your days, Drabs.

The war is on.

My Review:
Yeah, this book is finally out! Apparently, it was bought in 2005 or something, and only now is coming out, so yeah, a long wait, but well worth it, after all, it's a Sherrilyn Kenyon book! And it's a new world, and I was so excited to read it!

Honestly, I'd call this book a 0.5, not a 1, because it's only 87 pages long. A lot is packed into those pages, but still, it's not a lot of story. I just wish that it was longer, because man, it was just so freaking good and enjoyable!

That the Drabs did that to our world, oh, man, righteous fury, right now! They had some pretty horrible attitudes-and they only got rid of slavery of their species only recently, I think humans did slightly better there, even if we still have some pretty poor attitudes!

I really enjoyed these characters, Joshua who lost his family in all this, and how he is pretty closed off-but still protective of his remaining family. And a maybe love interest in the other main character in this book...but yeah, there's a lot for future books to grow off of!

This book was just absolutely fantastic, and I can't wait for more!

Week 50 Review: The Black Tide

From Goodreads:
Though Winter Halo - the pharmaceutical company behind the evil experimentation on both children and adults - has been destroyed, the danger is far from over. Not only do seven children remain unaccounted for, but some of the vampires are now able walk in light.

The key to stopping the unthinkable lies in finding Ciara Dream, the last member of the trio behind the plot to give full light immunity to both the vampires and the Others. But Ciara, like Tiger herself, is a shapeshifter, able to take on any human form she desires.

To find her, Tiger will need to use every skill in her formidable arsenal, and even that might not be enough to save the city and the people she has started to care about.

Because the vampires are coming, and this time, the lights won't stop them.

My Review:
Oh, man, this book was absolutely amazing! This series has been so great, and it was so epic to read the end of it! The beginning kinda just threw us into the action, and things didn't slow down from there! Such a great read!

There were a few plot lines to follow. There's Ciara and finding her and thwarting her plans. There's finding Jonas niece. Oh, and the conflict with Branna played out, and while it had a cost, it was worth it in the end, because it helped her go through the tears!

This is the book, I think, where she spends the most time in the city. Mostly because of her connection to the important politician dude because of his connections. Because the plan of Ciara is pretty big and bad!

Loved how it all played out! The trial, and then the big fight, yeah, that was really intense! I'm glad that Tiger got her home all legal, so no one can take it from her, that was a really great ending! And with Jonas, too!

This book was just spectacular, a great ending to a wonderful series! I loved it!

Week 48 Review: Love is the Drug

From Goodreads:
From the author of THE SUMMER PRINCE, a novel that's John Grisham's THE PELICAN BRIEF meets Michael Crichton's THE ANDROMEDA STRAIN set at an elite Washington D.C. prep school.

Emily Bird was raised not to ask questions. She has perfect hair, the perfect boyfriend, and a perfect Ivy-League future. But a chance meeting with Roosevelt David, a homeland security agent, at a party for Washington DC's elite leads to Bird waking up in a hospital, days later, with no memory of the end of the night.

Meanwhile, the world has fallen apart: A deadly flu virus is sweeping the nation, forcing quarantines, curfews, even martial law. And Roosevelt is certain that Bird knows something. Something about the virus--something about her parents' top secret scientific work--something she shouldn't know.

The only one Bird can trust is Coffee, a quiet, outsider genius who deals drugs to their classmates and is a firm believer in conspiracy theories. And he believes in Bird. But as Bird and Coffee dig deeper into what really happened that night, Bird finds that she might know more than she remembers. And what she knows could unleash the biggest government scandal in US history.

My Review:
I loved reading this book! An outbreak that means quarantine-of Washington, D.C., that's something that's important! And I loved the mystery of what happened to her that night, why the one dude and her ex treat her like she knows a secret. So interesting!

This book was a bit disjointed. There were this asides that added to the story, but they were jarring. It made it harder to read and to enjoy this book, but it didn't outweigh the positives! They were little asides, and while I'm glad that they were there, because it gave some needed info, well, yeah, jarring!

I really enjoyed Coffee and Bird together. They both have their issues-he's a ambassador's kid, and Bird's mom has a firm idea of who Bird should be, and Bird has tried to change herself to be that person. They were quickly, and fit well together!

This is a throwaway paragraph, but as a book lover and as someone trained to be a library technician, shame on Bird for defacing a library book! Worse than bending a corner as a bookmark, she tore a page out of a book! Gasp!

I really enjoyed reading this book, it was really great to read!

Week 42 Review: Last Star Burning

From Goodreads:
To escape execution for a crime she didn’t commit, seventeen-year-old Sev is forced to run away from the only home she's ever known in this exciting start to a brand-new fantasy series from debut author Caitlin Sangster.

Sev is branded with the mark of a criminal—a star burned into her hand. That's the penalty for being the daughter of the woman who betrayed their entire nation.

Now her mother's body is displayed above Traitor's Arch, kept in a paralyzed half sleep by the same plague that destroyed the rest of the world. And as further punishment, Sev is forced to do hard labor to prove that she's more valuable alive than dead.

When the government blames Sev for a horrific bombing, she must escape the city or face the chopping block. Unimaginable dangers lurk outside the city walls, and Sev's only hope of survival lies with the most unlikely person—Howl, the chairman’s son. Though he promises to lead her to safety, Howl has secrets, and Sev can't help but wonder if he knows more about her past—and her mother's crimes—than he lets on.

But in a hostile world, trust is a luxury. Even when Sev's life and the lives of everyone she loves may hang in the balance.

My Review:
This book was so awesome! The world was so fascinating, and I really enjoyed reading about Sev and her life! There was a lot going on, given that she had to run away from the only life she knew because she was falsely accused of bombing the town. Not fun!

Things start off OK, though not the best. To have your mom betray your city, be the reason why people are dying, yeah. The opposite of good. But to branded as a traitor, and be a four star, that is just awful!

The way that the town was set up, espousing equality, it's like, no, people are separated into ranks to "help" the town, that is not equality. And being told that it was all because of a lie, or a series of lies, that's not fun at all!

I really enjoyed her with Howl, because they had lives that, at times, were similar circumstances, but totally different in the way that they were raised. Well, as kids before everything happened. And yeah, they were really interesting together! Which is what made that ending just so evil! I need the next book, I need to know what's going to happen to him, and the rest of the characters!

This book was just so amazing, I enjoyed it so much, and I can't wait for the 2nd book!

Week 41 Review: Defy the Stars

From Goodreads:
Noemi Vidal is a teen soldier from the planet Genesis, once a colony of Earth that's now at war for its independence. The humans of Genesis have fought Earth's robotic "mech" armies for decades with no end in sight.

After a surprise attack, Noemi finds herself stranded in space on an abandoned ship where she meets Abel, the most sophisticated mech prototype ever made. One who should be her enemy. But Abel's programming forces him to obey Noemi as his commander, which means he has to help her save Genesis--even though her plan to win the war will kill him.

Together they embark on a daring voyage through the galaxy. Before long, Noemi begins to realize Abel may be more than a machine, and, for his part, Abel's devotion to Noemi is no longer just a matter of programming.

My Review:
Oh, wow, this book was absolutely amazing! I wasn't really expecting to read it, it was a random decision, but it was a great choice, because wow, it was an amazing book! I absolutely loved everything about it!

This world of Earth not being enough and so humanity spread to the stars, and one planet, Genesis, decided that it wouldn't abuse its planet, which caused a war...yeah. Not good. And that while they won 30 years ago, well, the war is back on, and things aren't going well! It was so interestign to read!

Abel and Noemi were so fantastic to read about! Abel, the singular creation by the maker of mechs, left alone for 30 years, and Noemi, who volunteered for a suicide run. They're on opposite sides, but programing means that he had to listen to her. It wasn't quite that simple thought!

I really enjoyed watching their journeys, the physical one they went on, planet to planet, and their personal journeys, of him breaking free of his programing, and her of seeing the worlds and changing her perspective, and falling in love! Just a fantastic read!

The ending was a little bit evil, and especially with the wait till the next book, but yeah, can't wait for more!

Week 37 Review: Brave New Girl

From Goodreads:
In a world where everyone is the same, one girl is the unthinkable: unique. A high-stakes fast-paced series launch from New York Times bestselling author Rachel Vincent.

We have brown hair. Brown eyes. Fair skin.
We are healthy and strong and smart.
But only one of us has ever had a secret.

Dahlia 16 sees her face in every crowd. She's nothing special—just one of five thousand girls created from a single genome to work for the greater good of the city.

Meeting Trigger 17 changes everything. He thinks she’s interesting. Beautiful. Unique. Which means he must be flawed. When Dahlia can't stop thinking about him—when she can't resist looking for him, even though that means breaking the rules—she realizes she's flawed, too. But if she's flawed, then so are all her identicals. And any genome found to be flawed will be recalled.

Destroyed.

Getting caught with Trigger would seal not only Dahlia's fate, but that of all five thousand girls who share her face. But what if Trigger is right? What if Dahlia is different?

Suddenly the girl who always follows the rules is breaking them, one by one by one. . .

My Review:
I just loved reading this book! I've really enjoyed all of Rachel Vincent's books, and I was glad for another new series, since the last YA series ended (though I would love it if we could get more in that series!) and I really enjoyed being in this world!

Reading about Dahlia and Trigger, I really enjoyed their relationship. Sure, it was uneven, given that she was a labourer and he was a soldier, and they were raised differently. It was the start of showing the unfairness of this world, that they were raised and treated in totally separate ways.

The ending was one heck of a cliffhanger. THey escaped, but in the process, which was about half of this book, they learned about their world, and how everything they thought was one way, was really another. And it ended in a huge ending, meeting her clone who didn't grow up with the rest them!

We did get a quick look at what the next book will be like, and it's so weird, because it's the same world, but different people, so it's totally different. It just shows the differences between Dahlia and the girl who was raised in her place. Just, oh, so different, and so awful, that people were treated that way!

This book was just so wonderful, and I can't wait for Strange New World!

Week 36 Review: Secrets in Death

From Goodreads:
A new novel in the #1 New York Times bestselling series: Lt. Eve Dallas must separate rumors from reality when a woman who traffics in other people's secrets is silenced.

The chic Manhattan nightspot Du Vin is not the kind of place Eve Dallas would usually patronize, and it's not the kind of bar where a lot of blood gets spilled. But that's exactly what happens one cold February evening.

The mortally wounded woman is Larinda Mars, a self-described "social information reporter," or as most people would call it, a professional gossip. As it turns out, she was keeping the most shocking stories quiet, for profitable use in her side business as a blackmailer. Setting her sights on rich, prominent marks, she'd find out what they most wanted to keep hidden and then bleed them dry. Now someone's done the same to her, literally—with a knife to the brachial artery.

Eve didn't like Larinda Mars. But she likes murder even less. To find justice for this victim, she'll have to plunge into the dirty little secrets of all the people Larinda Mars victimized herself. But along the way, she may be exposed to some information she really didn't want to know…

My Review:
Yeah, another book in this series! I mean, this is book 45 in the series, so it's pretty long lived and so enjoyed and enjoyable! These characters are so enjoyable to be with these characters! I do wonder how it's going to end, but that's at the back of mind, while I'm enjoying each particular book!

This time, there was only one death, for more of the book. And there might not have been another, but for the bad guy, well, being the bad guy. So not that it was a laid back investigation, but it wasn't as intense, you know? So that was really great to read! And plus, this book took place over the course of 2 days, Tuesday night to Thursday.

Eve, of course, has her things, like eavesdropping and how that doesn't make sense. But there were also their personal issues, what with their dads. And how Roarke finds out/figures out that Summerset killed his dad, which is not a spoiler, because we found out a long time ago, when Summerset broke his leg, Eve found out. But this was when Roarke found out, and a bit more of the situation.

The one clue that really figured out who the bad guy was very small, and we knew what it was, but I didn't catch the significance of it until after they said who the bad guy was. And yeah, this bad guy, he was more average, but creepy, and obsessive, and selfish. Glad he got caught!

Such a great book, and I can't wait for Dark in Death early next year!

Week 34 Review: Body Parts

From Goodreads:
People would kill for her body.

Raised in an elite foster center off the California coast, sixteen-year-old Tabitha's been sculpted into a world-class athlete. Her trainers have told her she'll need to be in top physical condition to be matched with a loving family, even though personal health has taken a backseat outside the training facility. While Tabitha swims laps and shaves seconds off her mile time, hoping to find a permanent home, the rest of the community takes pills produced by pharmaceutical giant PharmPerfect to erase their wrinkles, grow hair, and develop superhuman strength.

When Tabitha's finally paired, instead of being taken to meet her new parents, she wakes up immobile on a hospital bed. Moments before she's sliced open, a group of renegade teenagers rescues her, and she learns the real reason for her perfect health: PharmPerfect is using her foster program as a replacement factory for their pill-addicted clients' failing organs. And her friends from the center, the only family she’s ever known, are next in line to be harvested.

Determined to save them, Tabitha joins forces with her rescuers, led by moody and mysterious Gavin Stiles. As they race to infiltrate the hospital and uncover the rest of PharmPerfect's secrets, though, Tabitha finds herself with more questions than answers. Will trusting the enigmatic group of rebels lead her back to the slaughterhouse?

My Review:
I really enjoyed reading this book! Man, the whole concept annoyed me so much, that people would treat their bodies so badly with these drugs, that a company decided to raise people for healthy body parts to sell.

I mean, I know I'm not perfectly healthy, but I don't need to change my organs. Not saying that people who need new organs are at fault at any way, but these people are taking drugs that they don't need and are causes these problems, that the solution is harvesting from these kids, yeah, that's not cool at all.

I really enjoyed meeting Tabitha and her friends. She's always thought that they were an orphanage, and to excel to prove that they should be adopted. Which is really cruel, given that those that are "adopted" are actually harvested for their organs, which is totally wrong.

The ending was a thriller kind of vibe, with threats at basically every turn. They went from one threat to another, all coming from the same area, but different people. And then it wasn't, and they had the law on their sad, which was really fantastic and made for a really great ending!

I really enjoyed reading this book, it was really awesome!

Week 33 Review: Bannerless

From Goodreads:
A mysterious murder in a dystopian future leads a novice investigator to question what she's learned about the foundation of her population-controlled society.

Decades after economic and environmental collapse destroys much of civilization in the United States, the Coast Road region isn't just surviving but thriving by some accounts, building something new on the ruins of what came before. A culture of population control has developed in which people, organized into households, must earn the children they bear by proving they can take care of them and are awarded symbolic banners to demonstrate this privilege. In the meantime, birth control is mandatory.

Enid of Haven is an Investigator, called on to mediate disputes and examine transgressions against the community. She's young for the job and hasn't yet handled a serious case. Now, though, a suspicious death requires her attention. The victim was an outcast, but might someone have taken dislike a step further and murdered him?

In a world defined by the disasters that happened a century before, the past is always present. But this investigation may reveal the cracks in Enid's world and make her question what she really stands for.

My Review:
Oh, wow, this book was really fantastic! It totally wasn't what I expected, because I was thinking it was going to be high tech, but was in fact, the opposite, with very little of what we have now, and a much simpler life!

I really enjoyed the way this book was told-there was the present, and the investigation into a man's death. Then there was the past, as Enid was growing up, and her adventure with a boy. It all came together really nicely, and told the story in a fantastic way!

This world was pretty bleak. They lost a lot, and have to work with what they have, and be very strict. Households have to earn banners, which mean that they can have a child. Things that were so simple for us, are so much harder for them, because they can't really do surgeries, let alone heart surgeries, which causes a pretty devastating loss for Enid.

The mystery was really intriguing, and while she doesn't have anything like CSI, there's good old-fashioned detective work, interviewing people, gathering clues. All in all, the death was just a little bit pointless, a bit sad, it shouldn't have happened, it could've been avoided. And that sucks!

Such a great book, and I can't wait to see where this series is going to go!

Week 33 Review: The Empress

From Goodreads:
The thrilling sequel to S.J. Kincaid's The Diabolic, the New York Times bestseller that TeenVogue.com called "the perfect kind of high-pressure adventure."

It's a new day in the Empire. Tyrus has ascended to the throne with Nemesis by his side and now they can find a new way forward—one where they don't have to hide or scheme or kill. One where creatures like Nemesis will be given worth and recognition, where science and information can be shared with everyone and not just the elite.

But having power isn't the same thing as keeping it, and change isn't always welcome. The ruling class, the Grandiloquy, has held control over planets and systems for centuries—and they are plotting to stop this teenage Emperor and Nemesis, who is considered nothing more than a creature and certainly not worthy of being Empress.

Nemesis will protect Tyrus at any cost. He is the love of her life, and they are partners in this new beginning. But she cannot protect him by being the killing machine she once was. She will have to prove the humanity that she's found inside herself to the whole Empire—or she and Tyrus may lose more than just the throne. But if proving her humanity means that she and Tyrus must do inhuman things, is the fight worth the cost of winning it?

My Review:
Reading this book, it almost felt like it would be the death of me. So much happened, and gah, the feels! Wow, they are doing so well! Oh, no, that's going to have horrible consequences! Oh, what are they going to do now! Oh, how could that happen! There was just so much, and it was so great to read!

This book totally tore my heart out! Wow, the ups and downs!  It was like getting punched-hard-in the throat, being in a big warm hug of love, and then having your stomach drop out of your body. Very, very intense! But so freaking great!

I wasn't sure if I wanted this to be a series. The ending of The Diabolic was good, it could've been a stand alone. But I'm so glad that we got more time with this world, because there's so much to learn! They were daring, and that got them great opportunities-and cost them dearly.

Nemesis had a lot to prove, that she was going to be, well, the Empress. And she faced a lot because she was a Diabolic. But she proved herself, because I knew she wasn't soulless, and I'm glad that it was confirmed by their highest religious figure!

We learned so much about this world-like why they were in the galaxy they were, why they left Earth. And why science was banned. Which was so urgh! It could've gone in a totally different direction, and that was just hard to deal with!

There were so many moments where things were going wrong. They faced so many challenges, some that seemed unbeatable. And that they shouldn't be happening, but they were. Which made the almost ending so great, they won! But then...

Oh, wow, that ending! I kinda read it before I finished the first chapter, so I knew it was coming, but wow, that could not really prepare me! Everything that happened in this book, made the ending so much more poignant and heartbreaking! I need the final book now!

Yeah, I loved reading this book so, so, so much! The wait for the 3rd book is going to be evil!

From Goodreads:
"Princess Amelia is dead... and one of you will replace her."

Seventeen-year-old Victoria Sandalwood has served the Duke and Duchess all her life. Over the years, she's learned to make due with what she has and endure her surrogate father's awful punishments. She dreams of escape, but never expected it to come in the form of a message from the Queen of Westeria.

Victoria must compete with six other girls to earn the affection of both the Queen and a princely suitor… and to replace the secretly deceased Princess Amelia. If she fails to win the crown, Victoria may just have to fight for her life…

Royal Replicas is the first book in a YA dystopian series. If you enjoy courtly intrigue, heart-pounding adventure, and sweet romance, then you'll love this captivating story. Perfect for fans of Kiera Cass, Bella Forrest, and Veronica Roth.

My Review:
Oh, it was so great to read these stories! Reset was pretty chilling, and yet so amazing! And then there was Royal Replicas, which took her out of that life, and into an even more dangerous one! So fantastic!

Victoria has had it bad. She's been raised as the servant of the Duke's family, and the Duke himself was really abusive, both to her, and to his two daughters. It was really distressing to read, because there was nothing anybody could really do to stop him! So glad that Victoria got out, but his daughters didn't!

The comparisons to other books made in the synopsis are really spot on, with a bunch of girls competing for a spot of royalty. Different way through, but similar idea! And it played out so well in this book, it was really awesome to read!

And that ending! Oh! That was particularly evil, and I thoroughly enjoyed it! That they don't remember that help is coming, that they don't really seem to recall that they need help...Yeah. Not good! But there's a sequel, so there has to be something happening there!

Yeah, I enjoyed these so, so much, and the sequel can't come fast enough!
