Week 29 Review: Blood and Chocolate

From Goodreads:
Vivian Gandillon relishes the change, the sweet, fierce ache that carries her from girl to wolf. At sixteen, she is beautiful and strong, and all the young wolves are on her tail. But Vivian still grieves for her dead father; her pack remains leaderless and in disarray, and she feels lost in the suburbs of Maryland. She longs for a normal life. But what is normal for a werewolf?

Then Vivian falls in love with a human, a meat-boy. Aiden is kind and gentle, a welcome relief from the squabbling pack. He's fascinated by magic, and Vivian longs to reveal herself to him. Surely he would understand her and delight in the wonder of her dual nature, not fear her as an ordinary human would.

Vivian's divided loyalties are strained further when a brutal murder threatens to expose the pack. Moving between two worlds, she does not seem to belong in either. What is she really—human or beast? Which tastes sweeter—blood or chocolate?

My Review:
Yeah, I just loved reading this book! Though from what people have said, I won't be watching the movie, because apparently the only similarities are that she's a werewolf, and tests out being human. But other then that, it's different. And I don't want that to spoil how fantastic this was!

Oh, Aiden. You're supposed to be gentle, but when Vivian tells you, you freak out, and then basically hate her. Guess it's human nature to be afraid of things/creatures that are more powerful then you, but both us readers and Vivian thought you were different!

The Five, I thought that they were going to do something along the lines of why they had to leave the first time, and had all those people die. But nope, it's only one guy of them that really did something bad! And on the behest of that evil lady who wanted to be the female alpha. Well, too bad, Vivian got that position! And Gabriel, who was part of the package!

Oh, this was an awesome book, but I wish we could've had more of the relationship at the end, because it looked like it was going to be epic. I doubt that there'll be more, seeing as this book came out 15 years ago, and there hasn't been anything. That I know of.

So good, and I just really enjoyed it! I have to get a copy of it!

Week 20 Review: Tantalize

From Goodreads:
Are you predator or prey?

CLASSIFIED ADS: RESTAURANTS
SANGUINI'S: A VERY RARE RESTAURANT IS HIRING A CHEF DE CUISINE. DINNERS ONLY.

APPLY IN PERSON BETWEEN 2:00 AND 4:00 PM.

Quincie Morris has never felt more alone. Her parents are dead, and her hybrid-werewolf first love is threatening to embark on a rite of passage that will separate them forever. Then, as she and her uncle are about to unveil their hot vampire-themed restaurant, a brutal murder leaves them scrambling for a chef. Can Quincie transform their new hire into a culinary Dark Lord before opening night? Can he wow the crowd in his fake fangs, cheap cape, and red contact lenses — or is there more to this earnest face than meets the eye? As human and preternatural forces clash, a deadly love triangle forms, and the line between predator and prey begins to blur. Who’s playing whom? And how long can Quincie play along before she loses everything? TANTALIZE marks Cynthia Leitich Smith's delicious debut as a preeminent author of dark fantasy.

My Review:
This book was a bit weird. I enjoyed reading it, but it was weird! And a bit confusing, but once there was the transition, things made a lot more sense! Because it felt like there was another world layered over-top of this one, and yeah, that transition got Quincie-and us-into it!

I really enjoyed this world of vampires and werewolves-like her best friend, Kieran, who was the best friend who didn't see that she wanted more (and who also wanted more, but didn't act on it, because boys are silly) and yeah, Quincie's role in it becomes personal with the new chef!

Oh, from the turning, things made much more sense, and Quncie adjusts pretty quickly! And then she takes control, which was really great! And then when she's put into a terrible position in drinking Kieran-she doesn't kill him. So yeah, that was really great! Since the bad guy thought she would!

So good, so entertaining, and I can't wait to read more!

Week 18 Review: The Catastrophic History of You and Me

From Goodreads:
Dying of a broken heart is just the beginning.... Welcome to forever.

BRIE'S LIFE ENDS AT SIXTEEN: Her boyfriend tells her he doesn't love her, and the news breaks her heart—literally.

But now that she's D&G (dead and gone), Brie is about to discover that love is way more complicated than she ever imagined. Back in Half Moon Bay, her family has begun to unravel. Her best friend has been keeping a secret about Jacob, the boy she loved and lost—and the truth behind his shattering betrayal. And then there's Patrick, Brie's mysterious new guide and resident Lost Soul . . . who just might hold the key to her forever after.

With Patrick's help, Brie will have to pass through the five stages of grief before she's ready to move on. But how do you begin again, when your heart is still in pieces?

My Review:
This book was a bit hilarious, because I mean, really, a heart actually breaking because of being broken up with? It seems like it couldn't happen-but it does in this book, and yeah, I wanted to read more! And the five stages of grief!

Brie was an amazing narrator! And reading about her looking in on the people she left behind, partly because she wants to know what's going on with them, partly because well, yeah, she just died! And then Patrick helping her deal with her grief.

But then there's the bad guy, who didn't seem bad at all, and yeah, Brie made some bad choices. But in the end, that doesn't matter, because she made the right ones in the end! So good! Go, Brie for making the good, but hard, choice!

I enjoyed this book a lot, can't wait for more Jess Rothenberg books!

Week 15 Review: The Future of Us

From Goodreads:
It's 1996, and Josh and Emma have been neighbors their whole lives. They've been best friends almost as long - at least, up until last November, when Josh did something that changed everything. Things have been weird between them ever since, but when Josh's family gets a free AOL CD in the mail, his mom makes him bring it over so that Emma can install it on her new computer. When they sign on, they're automatically logged onto their Facebook pages. But Facebook hasn't been invented yet. And they're looking at themselves fifteen years in the future.

By refreshing their pages, they learn that making different decisions now will affect the outcome of their lives later. And as they grapple with the ups and downs of what their futures hold, they're forced to confront what they're doing right - and wrong - in the present.

My Review:
This was a very interesting, fun read! Emma and Josh have no idea what Facebook is, and at one point Emma is very happy that there's a computer in the car, and another point where they wonder over what a text is, well, these are everyday items now, and since I was only 2 in 1996, well, it was really strange and wonderful to read this book!

Emma gets more involved in changing her future, because she doesn't sound happy, and she goes from marriage to this one guy who either hasn't really been seen for 3 days, or uses her money to get a iPad when she could use a therapist, to marriage to this guy with alternating children (because the future is a very changing thing) and when she feels that this guy is bad for her, making her give up her career, she changes the future again, and again, until near the end, Future Emma deletes her Facebook account so 1996 Emma can't log in anymore.

Josh, on the other hand, doesn't do that much to change his future, sure he starts an interaction with the one he's going to marry, Sydney, the girl all the boys at school want to date. And as he spends more time with Sydney, and then arguing with Emma about changing her future, because it affects his, well, there's all sorts of trouble!

But what they realize, is that the future doesn't have to be the thing they have to worry about. It's the present, and what makes them happy, and what doesn't, and where and who they want to be with. So the ending was quite sweet with the 4 1/2 week party being planned. Yep.

This was a really great book, one that I really enjoyed, so I hope you guys check it out!

Week 12 Review: Lola and the Boy Next Door

From Goodreads:
Budding designer Lola Nolan doesn't believe in fashion . . . she believes in costume. The more expressive the outfit -- more sparkly, more fun, more wild -- the better. But even though Lola's style is outrageous, she's a devoted daughter and friend with some big plans for the future. And everything is pretty perfect (right down to her hot rocker boyfriend) until the dreaded Bell twins, Calliope and Cricket, return to the neighborhood.

When Cricket -- a gifted inventor -- steps out from his twin sister's shadow and back into Lola's life, she must finally reconcile a lifetime of feelings for the boy next door.

My Review:
Oh, this was a really funny book! And it was cute and sweet, with characters who embarrass themselves, like when Cricket tells Lola that he likes her, with her boyfriend right there. That was hilarious, if a bit sad for Cricket, putting himself on the line, even if near the end of the book, they were to get together once she thought she was worthy. And then they did, and it was very cute and good! Loved reading this book!

As the book progresses, things like what happened with Cricket and Calliope's last birthday party before they left for Calliope's skating career, well, it leads to more developments, where she and her boyfriend, Max break up, and honestly, they weren't a great couple because they really only did things that he wanted, and it was almost like she was a tag along instead of a strong girl out with her guy. And that may or may not have been because of their age difference, but he was definitely immature, what with the name calling, and the way he reacted, well, just proves my point.

Lola grew up in this book, and then yeah, her and Cricket were adorable! And I loved that we got to see Anna and St. Clair in this book, too! It was nice to see them again, and to see them when their romance wasn't the one in conflict! Yep.

This was an amazing book, loved it, can't wait to read the last companion novel!

The Reward Challenge Round 33

The Reward Challenge is almost the complete opposite to a book buying ban as you'll end up buying lots of new books throughout the challenge but only after you've completed a certain amount of reading. It's hosted by Good Golly Miss Holly, so thanks to her!

OK, so this week I read Still Waters, Lola and the Boy Next Door which counts twice as a FtBRC book, Shimmer, Immortal Becoming which counts twice as a review book, Between which counts twice as a a-z mini challenge book, Flame of Surrender which counts twice as a review book, Gil Marsh which counts twice as a NetGalley book, The Canker Death which counts twice as a review book, Sisters Red, All These Things I've Done which counts 3 times as a WTC book and a 2012 Dystopian book, The Emerald City which counts twice as a review book, Against the Night which counts twice as a NetGalley book, Once Dead, Twice Shy, Everything You Need to Survive the Apocalypse which counts twice as a DAC book, Bloodland which counts twice as a NetGalley book, Ironside, The Fortunes of Indigo Skye, Tiger's Quest, and dancergirl which counts twice but only 1 counts here as that's 33! My Reward is Darker Still!

So dancergirl has another count as a reward challenge book, and The Star Shard which counts twice as a NetGalley book, so I have 3 counts for round 34!

Week 6 Review: Call Me Irresistible

From Goodreads:
R.S.V.P. to the most riotous wedding of the year . . .

Lucy Jorik is the daughter of a former president of the United States.

Meg Koranda is the offspring of legends.

One of them is about to marry Mr. Irresistible—Ted Beaudine—the favorite son of Wynette, Texas. The other is not happy about it and is determined to save her friend from a mess of heartache.

But even though Meg knows that breaking up her best friend's wedding is the right thing to do, no one else seems to agree. Faster than Lucy can say "I don't," Meg becomes the most hated woman in town—a town she's stuck in with a dead car, an empty wallet, and a very angry bridegroom. Broke, stranded, and without her famous parents at her back, Meg is sure she can survive on her own wits. What's the worst that can happen? Lose her heart to the one and only Mr. Irresistible? Not likely. Not likely at all

My Review:
This was an utterly hilarious book! I mean, she breaks up her best friend's wedding by stating the truth-her friend would be miserable with Ted. It's just a series of unfortunate events that lead her to be stranded in a town that now hates her, and then falling in love with Ted!

I loved how these characters grew! I know this is book 5, which means there was a whole lot going on before, but yeah, in the almost 400 pages of this book, these characters changed, and yeah, some of the antics that happened are proof of that!

There were quite a few levels to this book, from the romantic, the political, the monetary, and the personal, and yeah, they caused quite a few of the issues, but at the same time, they started on the work of fixing things!

This was just such an enjoyable book! So hilarious, and amazing, I know I'll have to check out her other books sooner or later, though it's probably going to be later!

Week 4 Review: The Lonely Girls Club

From Goodreads:
At an exclusive California prep school, four young girls form a bond that will endure over two decades -- a bond built on secrets, scandal and murder . . . a bond about to be broken.

Mattie, a federal judge . . . Breeze, a wealthy entrepreneur . . . and Jane, the first lady of the United States, have all enjoyed a meteoric rise to success since their days at the Rowe Academy for Girls. But now the truth behind the suicide of their friend Ivy and the murder of their headmistress twenty years ago is no longer safely hidden.

The man imprisoned for the murder has been exonerated, and a true crime reporter is relentlessly pursuing a loose thread in the decades-old cover-up, one that threatens to unravel the women's pact of silence. But none of them anticipated the twisted depths of the secrets about to be exposed -- or how the truth could shatter all their lives.

My Review:
I really enjoyed this book, from the mystery of Ivy's death, the headmistress, and yeah, how the one guy was framed. And I really enjoyed the characters, because there were 3 that we got POV's on, because Ivy was dead. Yeah. Well, actually we got 4, because of Jameson Cross, the reporter. We got his POV, too!

First off, the whole idea of the Lonely Girls Club, a bit heartbreaking. A group of girls, by some means or another, whether by being a charity case at the school, or having angered the headmistress, roped into performing sexual acts on men. And those girls becoming a club? That's just sad, that they were put in that situation!

I really enjoyed reading the present, and the bits of the past that led up to the whole murder, the first one. And yeah, while I wish that we could've had more details of Ivy's death, what we got was pretty good! And yeah, it was just a good ending!

I really enjoyed this book, and I hope she writes more like this, beyond the other 2 that I know about!

Week 3 Review: Killing Me Softly

From Goodreads:
The Nightcap Strangler, who terrorized the town of Shadow Falls sixteen years ago, has finally been executed. Case closed. Until Bryan Kendall's lover is murdered in the notorious killer's unique style and the rookie cop stands accused. Has someone committed the perfect copycat crime…or was the wrong man put to death?

A continent away, Dawn Jones hears that her first love has been accused of murder and knows that only she can help him. But to do so, she'll have to face the very fears that drove them apart.

Together they'll work to uncover secrets someone's willing to kill to keep, and renew a love as dangerous as it is inevitable. And their best lead is the girl found dead in Bryan's bed, reeking of the whiskey poured down her throat before her killer squeezed it shut.

A killer who thinks that Dawn, too, could use one last drink…

My Review:
This was a fantastic book! I loved reading it, and yeah, while who the bad guy was, was sad, because we knew him, and that he would do that, well, yeah, sad. But this was an awesome book! I totally loved the characters, and I can't wait to read more of this series!

So first off, this is a situation that I wouldn't wish on anyone who hasn't committed one of the top 4 or so really, really, really bad things (murder, rape, abuse-child abuse specially, and genocide, those are what I can think of off the top of my head) being accused of something that you didn't do.

I really enjoyed the investigation, all the places and people that they went to, to gather clues, and any help that they could to prove his innocence, because he was, and yeah, they do that, so yeah! I'm happy with that!

Yeah, this was a pretty fantastic book, one that I really rather enjoyed, and yeah, like I said, I can't wait to read more of this series!

Week 3 Review: Nick and Norah's Infinite Playlist

From Goodreads:
It all starts when Nick asks Norah to be his girlfriend for five minutes. He only needs five minutes to avoid his ex-girlfriend, who's just walked in to his band’s show. With a new guy. And then, with one kiss, Nick and Norah are off on an adventure set against the backdrop of New York City—and smack in the middle of all the joy, anxiety, confusion, and excitement of a first date.

This he said/she said romance told by YA stars Rachel Cohn and David Levithan is a sexy, funny roller coaster of a story about one date over one very long night, with two teenagers, both recovering from broken hearts, who are just trying to figure out who they want to be—and where the next great band is playing.

Told in alternating chapters, teeming with music references, humor, angst, and endearing side characters, this is a love story you'll wish were your very own. Working together for the first time, Rachel Cohn and David Levithan have combined forces to create a book that is sure to grab readers of all ages and never let them go.

My Review:
From the title, you know that there's going to be music, I mean, playlist. Music. The go together. But what you can't expect, is the excellence of the music that was suggested in this book, music that I know some of it, but others that I'm going to have to check out!

I love the fact that this book is only 1 day, and that's it. All this happens, all their adventures, ups and downs, happens in 1 day, well, more 24 hours, because it starts in the in the middle of the night, and goes from there! That was just awesome!

I really enjoyed their relationship, that they actually built something in that short space of time, something meaningful, and not just a casual hook up, which is what it feels like 50% of relationships for teens are just that, so yeah, this was great!

I really enjoyed this book, and I'll have to check out Dash and Lily's Book of Dares!

Week 3 Review: Elsewhere

From Goodreads:
Welcome to Elsewhere. It is warm, with a breeze, and the beaches are marvelous. It's quiet and peaceful. You can't get sick or any older. Curious to see new paintings by Picasso? Swing by one of Elsewhere's museums. Need to talk to someone about your problems? Stop by Marilyn Monroe's psychiatric practice.

Elsewhere is where fifteen-year-old Liz Hall ends up, after she has died. It is a place so like Earth, yet completely different. Here Liz will age backward from the day of her death until she becomes a baby again and returns to Earth. But Liz wants to turn sixteen, not fourteen again. She wants to get her driver's license. She wants to graduate from high school and go to college. And now that she's dead, Liz is being forced to live a life she doesn't want with a grandmother she has only just met. And it is not going well. How can Liz let go of the only life she has ever known and embrace a new one? Is it possible that a life lived in reverse is no different from a life lived forward?

This moving, often funny book about grief, death, and loss will stay with the reader long after the last page is turned.

My Review:
Oh, this was such a great book! It was different in that the characters were all dead, except quick glimpses of the still living. And how they aged backwards until they were babies, and then were sent back to become some new baby back in life, well, that was very different! And a bit sad. Especially with this one, where Liz was young enough to go into a new life, and the guy she'd met at Elsewhere when trying to contact her brother, was just a bit older then her and didn't really remember, except a slight nagging feeling, but he was a toddler, and couldn't really do anything. So yeah, that was sad. But she got to live an afterlife for a good few years!

I really liked the uniqueness of this book, it was different, fresh, and beautifully written, and the setting was just a bit fantastical, the characters were different, and odd, and had their quirks, mourning their lost lives, and their left behind loved ones, or just plain strange, they developed new lives, and yeah.

Liz really grows up in this book, even as she ages backwards, because she goes from really doing nothing with her afterlife by just watching her family live their lives, to getting a job that she really enjoyed, and forgiving the guy who ran her over accidentally. And yeah, that was really sweet to read!

This was a really good book, so I hope you guys check it out!

Week 2 Review: Bumped

From Goodreads:
When a virus makes everyone over the age of eighteen infertile, would-be parents pay teen girls to conceive and give birth to their children, making teens the most prized members of society. Girls sport fake baby bumps and the school cafeteria stocks folic-acid-infused food.

Sixteen-year-old identical twins Melody and Harmony were separated at birth and have never met until the day Harmony shows up on Melody’s doorstep. Up to now, the twins have followed completely opposite paths. Melody has scored an enviable conception contract with a couple called the Jaydens. While they are searching for the perfect partner for Melody to bump with, she is fighting her attraction to her best friend, Zen, who is way too short for the job.
Harmony has spent her whole life in Goodside, a religious community, preparing to be a wife and mother. She believes her calling is to convince Melody that pregging for profit is a sin. But Harmony has secrets of her own that she is running from.
When Melody is finally matched with the world-famous, genetically flawless Jondoe, both girls' lives are changed forever. A case of mistaken identity takes them on a journey neither could have ever imagined, one that makes Melody and Harmony realize they have so much more than just DNA in common.
My Review:
This is most definitely a book that is going on my Best of 2012, which I've already started, because of this book! I loved this book, it had such great characters, a great plot, and a great idea behind it, and Melody shows a side of her, gradually, that is perfect. I mean, what's the point of bumping for other people, then being unable to get pregnant anymore, and then when you're older, pay some teenager, like you were, to have a baby. Why not keep the baby that you had? That was yours? It would save on the paying someone else, though you wouldn't get paid for the baby. So that balances it out.

Yeah. Really enjoyed this book, I read it to about 4 in the morning that I was going back to school. And I got up at seven. Because I really wanted to read this book. It was THAT good. I loved it!

Loved the idea behind it, that pretty much only teenagers (and the church extremists) can have kids, because a virus, that around 18 or so, that they joined the rest of the adults unable of conceiving. And how that made teens the most important group in society, because with them, humanity would enter into a slow death. Yep.

OK, a kinda spoiler, it's a bit from a scene near the end of the book, to show how the society, how far gone it was, but it'll be whiten out.

I didn't like how far they took it though, the society, because when Melody is there for a friend, and the 11 year old she met, with the "fake" baby budge, and how she was getting a scholarship if she had a baby each year from 11!!! 11, seriously! To 18, or 19, whenever the virus hit her. That was going too far. And I'm glad that Melody came to the same conclusion. Yep.

This was a freaking awesome book, I loved it, and I can't wait for Thumped! Check it out now if you haven't!!! NOW!!!!

Week 2 Review: Sandry's Book

From Goodreads:
With her gift of weaving silk thread and creating light, Sandry is brought to the Winding Circle community. There she meets Briar, a former thief who has a way with plants; Daja, an outcast gifted at metalcraft; and Tris, whose connection with the weather unsettles everyone, including herself. At Winding Circle, the four misfits are taught how to use their magic - and to trust one another. But then disaster strikes their new home. Can Sandry weave together four kinds of magical power and save herself, her friends, and the one place where they've ever been accepted?

My Review:
I really enjoyed this book, when I first read it, because I was in middle school, and helping at the library, and it was nice! This time, it was nice, and it was also cute!  I didn't remember the great characters, and how they had depth, and they were funny, and they had wit, it was so great! Loved it!

This book was really cute, with a great plot, and there was the one scene with the dog, and the Great-Uncle, and I really enjoyed that scene, it was fair, and countered the gang of boys beating the animal. Really liked it!

I loved how these 4 kids have magical powers, but they're a bit different, sometimes more powerful, or in an obscure, or random way, like Sandry's power over thread. Which just sounds a bit weird!

This was a great, adorable book! Check it out if you haven't! And the rest of the series, and the other series, too!

Week 52 Review: Speak No Evil

From Goodreads:
Silence is deadly.

The murder of eighteen-year-old Angie Vance was exceptionally vile–her mouth was sealed with glue, an obscenity scrawledwas across her skin, and she was suffocated in a garbage bag. The killing seems personal, so police detective Carina Kincaid focuses her efforts on the victim's much older ex-boyfriend, Steve Thomas. But without physical evidence, Carina can't make a collar or a case. She also can't stop Sheriff Nick Thomas, the prime suspect's brother, from conducting his own unwelcome investigation.

Though Nick is still scarred and unsteady from a recent confrontation with a serial killer, he's determined to prove his brother’s innocence. But his confidence is shaken when he learns of Steve's dark side, and when a friend of the murdered girl meets a similarly gruesome fate. With no time to lose, Carina and Nick work together to trap a psychopath, before another unlucky woman faces an unspeakable end.

Evil has spoken. Now see what it can do.

My Review:
Oh, what a great mystery! I mean, the bad guy was completely creepy to read, and aggravating! Because he's evil, and he didn't really have to be. But then we wouldn't have this wonderful book if he wasn't, so I guess that's something.

But this book has some pretty gruesome, the kills, how they were treated before they were killed, how they were left...not pretty. But then there's Carina and Nick to solve the crime, so nobody else falls victim to the bad guy. Because their end would not be pleasant at all.

These were some pretty fantastic characters, richly detailed, nuanced, real, and characters that I'd like to spend time with, even though they'd problem not want to spend time with me, at gr. 12'er :)

Loved how they solved the case, with great detective skills, and a bit of luck! Because if they'd missed one part, that was pretty crucial, well, things would'v been quite a bit different, and that wouldn't have been the best book, because the characters would'v have been who they were.

I really enjoyed this book, can't wait to read more of this world!!!
