My first review of Queen of Shadows, Empire of Storms, Tower of Dawn
My Review:
I just loved reading these books! Reading them for the last time before the series ended, was a bit bittersweet, but these books were just spectacular! Aelin was incredible, with her strength and her impeccable plots and plans! She went through so much, and now she has the future ahead of her!
I had forgotten a lot of what happened in these books. Like how awful Chaol was to Aelin in Queen of Shadows. He was taking his bad feelings for himself out on her, and I really didn't like that! I was still glad that he found his happiness with Yrene, though!
Kingdom of Ash kinda broke me. After the endings of both Empire of Storms and Tower of Dawn, there seemed to be a lot of hope-well, besides Aelin being in the hands of Maeve. That was drained pretty quickly. I know that Kingdom of Ash was the end of the series, but it surprised me how many battles there were. Like, at least a 3rd of the book was of a battle.
By this point in the series, there were no big hidden mysteries. They knew about as much as they were going to get, now they had to deal with it. And deal with it, they did. There were a ton of costs, not everybody made it, but it came together so beautifully!
Of course, there were losses. There was one quiet one where we didn't see the death, only the body, and then two big ones. Of course, I'm only counting named characters on the good guys side, not the nameless masses of armies on both sides, as well as the two bad guys. I don't know which one hurt the most, they were all introduced (maybe not by name) in Heir of Fire, so we knew them about roughly the same amount of time.
One thing that I really loved was that brief mention where Aelin was in the world of A Court of Thorns and Roses, and Feyre is visibly pregnant and Rhysand helps Aelin. It was maybe a paragraph long, but just like Laini Taylor's series are connected, so are these two (though less so than the example because there's only the one interaction. Well, besides the world travelers of both series) and that's so great!
I know that this series was really big, so not all the characters that we met got another showing in Kingdom of Ash. One surprise was Nox Owen, which was fantastic! I do wish that the demi-fae of Mistward had been mentioned, but we did get so much, that it would be too demanding, that of all the ones we did get to be ungrateful of the one that we didn't get.
Ok, I do have some questions. Like it was mentioned that not all of the gods that were around were the ones from a different world, but then after Aelin dealt with the Wyrdkeys, it was said that there were no more gods in this world. So I'm confused. Also, I'm wondering, did all of the gods get sent to the hell world? Because some of them, like Mala, seemed to be good, and didn't deserve it!
These books were so great, I loved reading them, I love this series, and I can't wait to read them again in the future!
