Week 34 Review: Legend of the Lakes

I thought to die that night in the solitude where they would never find me…

Cassandra stands silent upon a ravaged battlefield, watching as the druids prepare the dead for the pyres, embers drifting up into the still winter darkness. She can barely breathe through the agony of her grief, but she cannot waste another second on tears.

Because Londinium, the Caesar, the empire… all of it is still out there. The empire whose code she had followed, whose prince she had promised to marry, whose schemes she had been swept up in since birth.

They tried to use her magic against her. To silence her.

So she will use her magic against them. To silence them. Forever.

The third and final chapter of The Once and Future Queen trilogy, this epic scifi fantasy adventure set in a dystopian world where the Romans still rule will enchant fans of Sarah J Maas and Cassandra Clare.

My Review:
Oh man, this was a really fantastic read! After the end to the previous book, I needed to know how the bad guys were going to be defeated. Because they needed to be, and I knew they would, just not how.

Cassandra is dealing with the grief of her lost love, but since she’s pregnant, she has to keep going. It was really interesting, watching her with Gideon, especially after the baby is born and she’s able to tend the lines, and learning what role a Griffin plays in that.

One thing that’s not really been explored is the Empire as a whole, it was just Londinium so that was a bit of a blank space. But with the focus on lay lines, and them dying brought up the fact that when they die, then crops suffer, and the Empire is dealing with that-and might not be able to take by Londinium if they broke away.

All in all, the bad guy almost got away with it. But with little defiances, like giving her a charm, came together and fell like dominoes that ended up with the bad guy facing the same, but much more fair, justice that he sentenced so many people to.

Really enjoyed reading this book and I’m so glad that I’ve formally finished this serious!
