Week 15 Reviews: Iced, Burned

From Goodreads:
The year is 1 AWC—After the Wall Crash. The Fae are free and hunting us. It's a war zone out there, and no two days are alike. I’m Dani O’Malley, the chaos-filled streets of Dublin are my home, and there's no place I’d rather be.

Dani "Mega" O'Malley plays by her own set of rules—and in a world overrun by Dark Fae, her biggest rule is: Do what it takes to survive. Possessing rare talents and the all-powerful Sword of Light, Dani is more than equipped for the task. In fact, she's one of the rare humans who can defend themselves against the Unseelie. But now, amid the pandemonium, her greatest gifts have turned into serious liabilities.

Dani's ex–best friend, MacKayla Lane, wants her dead, the terrifying Unseelie princes have put a price on her head, and Inspector Jayne, the head of the police force, is after her sword and will stop at nothing to get it. What's more, people are being mysteriously frozen to death all over the city, encased on the spot in sub-zero, icy tableaux.

When Dublin's most seductive nightclub gets blanketed in hoarfrost, Dani finds herself at the mercy of Ryodan, the club's ruthless, immortal owner. He needs her quick wit and exceptional skill to figure out what's freezing Fae and humans dead in their tracks—and Ryodan will do anything to ensure her compliance.

Dodging bullets, fangs, and fists, Dani must strike treacherous bargains and make desperate alliances to save her beloved Dublin—before everything and everyone in it gets iced.

From Goodreads:
It's easy to walk away from lies. Power is another thing.

MacKayla Lane would do anything to save the home she loves. A gifted sidhe-seer, she's already fought and defeated the deadly Sinsar Dubh—an ancient book of terrible evil—yet its hold on her has never been stronger.

When the wall that protected humans from the seductive, insatiable Fae was destroyed on Halloween, long-imprisoned immortals ravaged the planet. Now Dublin is a war zone with factions battling for control. As the city heats up and the ice left by the Hoar Frost King melts, tempers flare, passions run red-hot, and dangerous lines get crossed.

Seelie and Unseelie vie for power against nine ancient immortals who have governed Dublin for millennia; a rival band of sidhe-seers invades the city, determined to claim it for their own; Mac’s former protégé and best friend, Dani "Mega" O'Malley, is now her fierce enemy; and even more urgent, Highland druid Christian MacKeltar has been captured by the Crimson Hag and is being driven deeper into Unseelie madness with each passing day. The only one Mac can depend on is the powerful, dangerous immortal Jericho Barrons, but even their fiery bond is tested by betrayal.

It's a world where staying alive is a constant struggle, the line between good and evil gets blurred, and every alliance comes at a price. In an epic battle against dark forces, Mac must decide who she can trust, and what her survival is ultimately worth.

My first review of Iced
My Review:
So it was really fantastic to read these books! They were just so good, and entertaining, and great, and I just loved them! Iced ended on such a cliffhanger, and then there was the 2 and a bit year wait for Burned, well, yeah, made reading both of these so great!

So Iced was just as great as the last time that I read it! I did have just a little bit of trouble into getting into Dani's voice, she is 14 and in love with the world, and cocky and smart, and that high paced essence that is Dani, was just a little hard to read. And then it clicked again, and the pages flew!

So there was the Dani Trilogy, but I think that pretty much got scrapped in the writing of Burned, because Burned is mainly narrated by Mac, though there are a few others narrating in there. But it's a good change, because Dani changes in Burned, and it wouldn't have worked out right if it was Dani narrating!

Oh, what we learned in Burned! Like the Lor scene that we got a teaser of before Burned was published, I thought something really bad would happen there, but it didn't. And what happened to Dani, and all these other characters, we find out so much! And oh, we learn on how many levels Ryodan works on, it was pretty incredible!

Favourite lines from Iced: "Correction. I got in your way. You knocked yourself out. I told you to watch where you're going." Well, that's not very nice! "Dude. The bush is ready. Why you still beating around it?" "I always misstep. Misstep is my middle name, right after Mega. I can't not misstep. I have feet." Very true! "Huh? Teach me like you're teaching a class or something? What are you going to call it: 'You Too Can Be A Sociopath 101'?" Very smart! "I make a sound I didn't know I could make, part gasp, part shriek, and shoot straight up in bed, eyes flying open. What came out of my mouth is so girly it makes me cringe so I grab my sword and swing it." Oh, that is totally OK, being girly isn't a bad thing, only unless you make it! "'You both talk too much. Shut up. Don't make me tell you again.' We shut up, which I find hysterically funny." Yeah, seeing as one of you is turning into an Unseelie Prince, and the other is the brains of the Nine! "I nearly yank my arms out of my sockets but they don't let go. I'm forced to stand and watch as the princes, Lor, a dozen Guardians, and the latest intended Unseelie victim all try to position themselves to catch my sword when it comes down. One of the princes tries to spread his wings but the quarters are too close and he can't lift off. The other sifts into the air, and Lor lunges in a totally unhuman way and they collide in midair with my sword still going up. Like I said, a total circus." Agreed! But the sword is pretty important! "Dude. Watch your question marks. I just pried one out of you." Yeah, he doesn't really use them all that often. But Etruscan snoods sound very strange and are an unknown!

That ending was just evil! Mac still invisible with the book being quiet, but that about Dageus, and Barrons! Oh, I want the next book now!
