Merit, Chicago's newest vampire, is learning how to play well with others. Other supernaturals, that is. Shapeshifters from across the country are convening in the Windy City, and as a gesture of peace, Master Vampire Ethan Sullivan has offered their leader a very special bodyguard: Merit. Merit is supposed to protect the Alpha, Gabriel Keene—and to spy for the vamps while she's at it. Oh, and luckily Ethan's offering some steamy, one-on-one combat training sessions to help her prepare for the mission.
Merit must accept the assignment, even though she knows that she'll probably regret it. And she's not wrong. Someone is gunning for Gabriel Keene, and Merit soon finds herself in the line of fire. She'll need all the help she can get to track down the would-be assassin, but everywhere she turns, there are rising tensions between supernaturals—not least between her and a certain green-eyed, centuries old master vampire.
My Review:
Oh, it was so great to read this book! Lots of things happened, and yeah, it was just so enjoyable to read! This series is shaping up to be a wonderful, entertaining ride, and I can't wait to read more of Merit's adventures!
Yes! We finally got her first name, Caroline. And I can understand why she would go by her last name, even with the association with her dad by it. Because to be given the name that was previously used over a deceased sister...yeah.
This book was about politics, the politics of the shapeshifters, of the vampires and the shapeshifters, of the House and the shapeshifters. And that pulled in Ethan and Merit's relationship, because he's like, the consummate politician.
And man, with the worst timing, too! After finally getting together, what we've been waiting on since the beginning, Ethan makes a very poor choice! And yeah, then it's added to by having his former lover come over for a visit for political reasons, but that the house thinks are romantic reasons! Yeah!
Loved reading this book, it was so awesome and so great, and I can't wait to read more of this series!
