Jazz . . . Booze . . . Boys . . . It's a dangerous combination.
Every girl wants what she can't have. Seventeen-year-old Gloria Carmody wants the flapper lifestyle—and the bobbed hair, cigarettes, and music-filled nights that go with it. Now that she's engaged to Sebastian Grey, scion of one of Chicago's most powerful families, Gloria's party days are over before they've even begun . . . or are they?
Clara Knowles, Gloria's goody-two-shoes cousin, has arrived to make sure the high-society wedding comes off without a hitch—but Clara isn't as lily-white as she appears. Seems she has some dirty little secrets of her own that she'll do anything to keep hidden. . . .
Lorraine Dyer, Gloria's social-climbing best friend, is tired of living in Gloria's shadow. When Lorraine's envy spills over into desperate spite, no one is safe. And someone's going to be very sorry. . .
My Review:
I did not really enjoy this book. I didn't really like the setting, the era, the characters, the writing, and what was going on. I wish that I hadn't read it, because while it'd be great to someone else, it wasn't for me.
The story it tells could've been much better for me, if there were a few tweaks. There were just little things that if changed, would've made me like it even more. But then there were the big things that I didn't like or enjoy.
These characters were separate, but they were also pretty similar, that kind of high society girl who doesn't really care about the trouble that she gets into. There were a few variations, and a few huge differences, but other then that, these characters were pretty much the same.
I did like that most of the characters either got happy endings, or they had potential for happy endings with future books, because this is a series. But I won't be reading about them, because I won't be reading those future books.
I liked the book a bit, but I didn't enjoy it. Oh, well!
