Maya Delaney's paw-print birthmark is the mark of what she truly is -a skin-walker. She can run faster, climb higher, and see better than nearly everyone else. Experiencing intense connections with the animals that roam the woods outside her home, Maya knows it's only a matter of time before she's able to Shift and become one of them. And she believes there may be others in her small town with surprising talents.
Now Maya and her friends have been forced to flee from their homes during a forest fire they suspect was deliberately set. Then they're kidnapped, and after a chilling helicopter crash, they find themselves in the Vancouver Island wilderness with nothing but their extraordinary abilities to help them get back home.
My first review of The Calling
My Review:
What a great book! Starting straight off of where The Gathering ended, this book goes straight into action, and it really doesn't stop. From the pilot being on the side of the fake rescue workers, Rafe going out the side of the helicopter, and a crash landing, yeah, this book had action!!!
It's confirmed that the man with similar features to Maya's own was/is her bio dad, that he wanted her and her brother, but her mom didn't want them to be raised as experiments, so took them, and that her dad searched for them, found her, but the St. Cloud's just let the Delaney's raise her, her dad switched to another Cabal to try and get her. Not back, since he never had her in the first place, but yeah.
We learn that Sam is like Daniel, and that all of them have super powers, but not the names of what they are for Serena, Haley, and Nicole. Or for Casey. They have an idea about the powers, but not the actual names.
Oh, and Maya transforms for the first time, while she's sleeping, and yeah, that was really cool, and interesting, and fun to read!!! Especially since it took a bit for her to tell Daniel about what she was, since his werewolf comment and turning into a cougar.
And we find out that Nicole killed Serena, and that Daniel was going to break up with Serena before she was killed. And that Rafe was safe, but then was coerced into helping the St. Clouds, and yeah, just lots of things happen in this book!
Loved rereading this book, it was so great, and I can't wait to reread The Rising!
