Week 23 Review: The Vindico

From Goodreads:
X-Men meets The Breakfast Club in this darkly humorous adventure

The Vindico are a group of supervillains who have been fighting the League of Heroes for as long as anyone can remember. Realizing they're not as young as they used to be, they devise a plan to kidnap a group of teenagers to take over for them when they retire--after all, how hard can it be to teach a bunch of angsty teens to be evil?

Held captive in a remote mansion, five teens train with their mentors and receive superpowers beyond their wildest dreams. Struggling to uncover the motives of the Vindico, the teens have to trust each other to plot their escape. But they quickly learn that the differences between good and evil are not as black and white as they seem, and they are left wondering whose side they should be fighting on after all . . .

With fast-paced action, punchy dialogue, and sarcastic humor, this high-stakes adventure from a talented new YA voice pulls you in from the first page.

My Review:
This was a fantastic read. The characters popped off the page,  the plot was amazing, and totally unique, and it's a fresh novel, what with all the angel/wolf/vampire books out there, for superheroes, or in this case, supervillains, that makes such a great book!

I really enjoyed the characters, especially Emily, she was super smart, hacking into the League's firewalls, and how much James wanted to be a superhero, how Lana really didn't want to be a part of the group, but as her powers started to come out, she accepted them, Hayden and how much a flirt he was, and the whole line of joining someone in the showers, and Sam, who was just nice to everyone, and didn't notice or really understand how everyone was making fun of him.

Then the villains, they had their own personalities, their plots and schemes, and reasons why for doing what they did, from betrayal, to murder, to being judgemental and picky and choosy, well, the villains had reasons for doing what they did, that doesn't excuse them. Any ways.

Action-packed, meet The Vindico, from flowing, and sometimes funny scenes, like the rocket launchers, and painful scenes where characters go further then they mean to, and it has painful consequences. It made the book more real, with the world having parameters, where if you did this, then that happened, and  it was highly enjoyable!

This book was definitely left open for a sequel, which I am desperately awaiting, because while the Vindico members are being sent away their last scene, well, it promises that the next book will be twice as good!

The Vindico was a fantastic novel, intoxicating writing, and wondrous storytelling, and a must read for all fans of heroes and villains with powers! So go on, read it when it comes out!
