Week 28 Reviews: Messenger of Fear, The Snake, The Tattooed Heart

From Goodreads:
I remembered my name – Mara. But, standing in that ghostly place, faced with the solemn young man in the black coat with silver skulls for buttons, I could recall nothing else about myself.

And then the games began.

The Messenger sees the darkness in young hearts, and the damage it inflicts upon the world. If they go unpunished, he offers the wicked a game. Win, and they can go free. Lose, and they will live out their greatest fear.

But what does any of this have to do with Mara? She is about to find out . . .

From Goodreads:
The Snake delves deeper into New York Times bestselling author Michael Grant's world of harsh justice. Fans of Stephen King will be mesmerized by this chilling yet deeply thought-provoking horror story.

The Messenger and Mara witness a crime. Someone is dead. Someone has to pay. But when they travel back through space and time to uncover the truth, they come to learn that two people had wicked intentions. They had seen an act of revenge. In a twisted web of lust and vengeance, only Mara, as Messenger's apprentice, can decide who will play a game for redemption.

Two wrongs don't make a right. . . . Only one will pay the ultimate price.

From Goodreads:
The games continue in New York Times bestselling author Michael Grant’s sequel to Messenger of Fear: a haunting tale for fans of Stephen King that combines fantasy with real-world horror stories.

Mara has learned to punish the wicked as the Messenger’s apprentice. Those who act out of selfishness and greed, and others who become violent because of prejudice and hate, pay the ultimate price. But Mara is constantly reminded that Messengers are serving their own kind of punishment—for every person who is offered justice, they wear a tattoo that symbolizes the heart of the crime. As Mara delves deeper into her harsh reality, she will discover that in spite of all the terror she and Messenger inflict, caring in this world is the hardest part of all.

My Review:
It was just so fantastic to be able to read these books! They were so fantastic, different, dark, and I really enjoyed how Mara narrated, she had this style that was all her own, that I just haven't read anywhere else, and I enjoyed so much!

So this world of Messengers of Fear, and balance, and right and wrong, was so well detailed, and so creepy, and yet, it made sense. Some people did wrong, and they had to pay for that, because they did evil deliberately-they didn't have to.

The twist at the end of Messenger of Fear, that was a pretty big thing! There were a few clues, like Messenger warning her against her diatribe against Kayla, but then as things became more and more clear, well, that twist was something else!

The Tattooed Heart really delved into the mysteries that were left after Messenger of Fear, like who Messenger was, and who was Ariadne, and I really enjoyed reading about that! It was a pretty awesome, a bit bittersweet, ending, and I enjoyed it so much!

Really great series, love how it could be done now, or there could be more books, that was such a great ending there!
