It is Samhain—the Blood Harvest. Nonbelievers call it Hallowe'en. The night when eight Nashville teenagers are found dead, with occult symbols carved into their naked bodies. It's a ritual the killers believe was blessed by Death himself.
When children are victimized, emotions always run high, and this case has the public both outraged and terrified: a dangerous combination. Recently reinstated homicide lieutenant Taylor Jackson knows she has to act quickly, but tread carefully.
Exploring the baffling culture of mysticism and witchcraft, Taylor is immersed in a darkness that threatens to unbalance the order of her world, and learns how unchecked wrath can push a killer to his limits.
My Review:
Loved reading this book! It was dark, and twisted, but it was just so enjoyable to read! And there was a pretty happy ending! Of course, it wouldn't be a Taylor Jackson novel, a J.T. Ellison book, without a killer mystery and some heart-wrenching conflict!
This book was very fast paced. It started on October 31st, and it wrapped up in the next two days. So yeah, there was a lot going on. Especially with Baldwin in D.C. in a hearing over his case before he came to Nashville before the series started (and now know just before Field of Graves happened!)
There was a lot of balls to juggle. There were the murders, and the drugs, and the magick on one side, for Taylor. And for Baldwin, there was a child killer/molester and Charlotte, haunting him from her grave. Knowing what she'd done and her history, it was eerie to be in her head! It was not a lot of fun! But it ended better then it could've!
My one complaint, this far into the series, is that things that were left up in the air in previous books, like the problem of charging of the bad guys in The Cold Room, aren't followed up. A few things have been, but others haven't, and I want to know how they were, because they had to have!
Love this book, love this series, and I can't wait to read (and reread) more!
