From Richelle Mead, the #1 internationally bestselling author of Vampire Academy and Bloodlines, comes a breathtaking new fantasy steeped in Chinese folklore.
For as long as Fei can remember, there has been no sound in her village, where rocky terrain and frequent avalanches prevent residents from self-sustaining. Fei and her people are at the mercy of a zipline that carries food up the treacherous cliffs from Beiguo, a mysterious faraway kingdom.
When villagers begin to lose their sight, deliveries from the zipline shrink and many go hungry. Fei's home, the people she loves, and her entire existence is plunged into crisis, under threat of darkness and starvation.
But soon Fei is awoken in the night by a searing noise, and sound becomes her weapon.
Richelle Mead takes readers on a triumphant journey from the peak of Fei's jagged mountain village to the valley of Beiugo, where a startling truth and an unlikely romance will change her life forever...
My Review:
I enjoyed reading this book so much! It was really great and enjoyable, and it's the first Richelle Mead full length novel out there that I know of that is a stand alone. So that's something different, and I love different!
This world of Chinese mythology was really fantastic! There wasn't a lot of the mythology that we knew about for most of the book. But the world of people who couldn't hear, and then were slowly losing their sight, that all came together and was really fantastic!
Fei was a really great character! She had her flaws, that she was human and thought of her family over others, but yeah, human. She was an artist who saw things in a different way, and that was really important in this book!
There were a lot of elements in this book, and with this world, they all came together well, the mystery, the romance, the adventure, they were just fantastic to read and so enjoyable, and I'm so glad that I got to read it!
Really fantastic book from Richelle Mead, and I can't wait for her next book!
