Week 42 Review: The Wicked Deep

From Goodreads:
Hocus Pocus and Practical Magic meets the Salem Witch trials in this haunting story about three sisters on a quest for revenge—and how love may be the only thing powerful enough to stop them.

Welcome to the cursed town of Sparrow…

Where, two centuries ago, three sisters were sentenced to death for witchery. Stones were tied to their ankles and they were drowned in the deep waters surrounding the town.

Now, for a brief time each summer, the sisters return, stealing the bodies of three weak-hearted girls so that they may seek their revenge, luring boys into the harbor and pulling them under.
Like many locals, seventeen-year-old Penny Talbot has accepted the fate of the town. But this year, on the eve of the sisters' return, a boy named Bo Carter arrives; unaware of the danger he has just stumbled into.

Mistrust and lies spread quickly through the salty, rain-soaked streets. The townspeople turn against one another. Penny and Bo suspect each other of hiding secrets. And death comes swiftly to those who cannot resist the call of the sisters.

But only Penny sees what others cannot. And she will be forced to choose: save Bo, or save herself.

My Review:
This book was a really fantastic read! I enjoyed this world so much, it's only slightly magical, with the girls and their curse. While they were drowned for being witches, their death and the curse was the only magic that they really did, and it wasn't like they said a curse, it was all the emotions there.

I really enjoyed the way this book was told. It was mainly int the present with this current summer with the girls getting their revenge. But we also got brief glimpses of the past, with the little things that lead up to the sisters being murdered. Because they're present now, and it's why they're getting their revenge, so it's pretty relevant!

There were a few mysteries. Like what happened to Penny's dad? And who has the 3rd sister, Hazel taken over? The answers to these are such a big part of the ending, it's a pretty heartbreaking, but wonderful, ending! So fantastic to read, and such a great ending!

There's this one twist, that yeah, I didn't see coming. Like, how did I miss this? I mean, there were clues, but of course with great writing, they seemed like small bits of, well, fluff, until it all came together and made sense! So fantastic!

Loved this book, it was a really fantastic read! Can't wait to read what Shea Ernshaw writes next!
