Donna Pierce might hear voices, but that doesn't mean she’s crazy. Probably.
The voices do serve their purpose, though—whenever Donna hears them, she knows she’s in danger. So when they start yelling at the top of their proverbial lungs, it’s no surprise she and her best friend, Deke, end up narrowly escaping a zombie horde. Alone without their families, they take refuge at their high school with the super-helpful nerds, the bossy class president, and—best of all?—Liam, hottie extraordinaire and Donna’s long-time crush. When Liam is around, it’s easy to forget about the moaning zombies, her dad’s plight to reach them, and how weird Deke is suddenly acting toward her.
But as the teens’ numbers dwindle and their escape plans fall apart, Donna has to listen to the secrets those voices in her head have been hiding. It seems not all the zombies are shuffling idiots, and the half-undead aren't really down with kids like Donna…
My Review:
Oh, man, how did I enjoy this book so much? It was just so freaking funny, and enjoyable, and yeah, just a great zombie book, with some great twists, though some of them, if I thought about it, could've been predicted, but I was so absorbed in the book that I didn't!
I mean, Donna doesn't want to be a hero, she just wants to be the girl, the one that the boy gets, and in her case, Liam's girl. But she has this little talent, and yeah, that's messing with her plans. And then there's Deke, who turns out to actual have the hero gene, wants to help, and yeah, all the other characters, from Liam, the nerds, the class president, and the librarian, and her dad, and Deke's grandmother, just amazing characters!
Like the librarian was very prepared, and all the supplies that she had, and then she had the mobile library bus, and that was good to go, and the arrows and the pepper spray! I mean, this book was hilarious! Or when Donna and Deke first arrive at the school, the zombies just pick up their vehicle, and carry it off, and that was just hilarious, along with the reactions to that!
Or when Donna was driving, and she was hitting them with the car? Or used the wind shield wipers on the zombies, and the comment that was made? Yeah, that induced a lot of laughter, that almost turned in laughing tears, because it was so freaking hilarious!
I loved this book, and how it wrapped up, and yeah, just a great book!
