A new life is just a phone call away!
Devi's life isn't turning out at all like she wanted. She wasted the past three years going out with Bryan—cute, adorable, break-your-heart Bryan. Devi let her friendships fade, blew off studying, didn't join any clubs . . . and now that Bryan has broken up with her, she has nothing left.
Not even her stupid cell phone—she dropped it in the mall fountain. Now it only calls one number . . . hers. At age fourteen, three years ago!
Once Devi gets over the shock—and convinces her younger self that she isn't some wacko—she realizes that she's been given an awesome gift. She can tell herself all the right things to do . . . because she's already done all the wrong ones! Who better to take advice from than your future self?
Except . . .what if getting what you think you want changes everything?
My Review:
Gimme a Call was a fun novel to read. It was a bit funny about all the things "Ivy" AKA senior Devi, got frosh Devi to do, and then the reactions Ivy had to some of those changes. The way Ivy yelled and bossed frosh Devi, I didn't enjoy so much, but yeah, great book!
So the idea of a phone being able to connect you to your past self, and then being able to change your past, well, sounds good! Especially if you feel, like Devi, that you wasted your high school time. But being able to change the past, comes with it's ups and downs.
I really liked how it explored that idea of hey, just because you can think of changes to your life, and have them implemented to have what you think is a better life, doesn't mean that it actually is. Let's say that better. Just because you imagine a life to be better, doesn't mean it is!
Seeing it from both sides, from "Ivy" and from frosh Devi, was really great! And then how the younger Devi started to diverge from what Ivy was telling her, and how those changes led to a more balanced life!
Really enjoyed this book, it was just really, really fantastic!
