Week 33 Reviews: Infinite Repeat, The Art of Lainey, New Music

From Goodreads:
Seventeen-year-old Micah Foster is looking forward to the return of his girlfriend, Amber, who's been away in Los Angeles recording an EP with her band. But when Amber returns home on the anniversary of Micah's dad's death, something feels different and Micah pushes her away.

Over the next week, as Micah tries to repair his relationship with Amber, he relives the events of the past few years and recognizes a pattern. His friends and family are right--he self-destructs every April, right around the time his dad died, hurting people he cares about in the process. Will Amber be this year's casualty? Or can Micah escape his past in time to fix his present?

From Goodreads:
Soccer star Lainey Mitchell is gearing up to spend an epic summer with her amazing boyfriend, Jason, when he suddenly breaks up with her—no reasons, no warning, and in public no less! Lainey is more than crushed, but with help from her friend Bianca, she resolves to do whatever it takes to get Jason back.

And that's when the girls stumble across a copy of The Art of War. With just one glance, they're sure they can use the book to lure Jason back into Lainey's arms. So Lainey channels her inner warlord, recruiting spies to gather intel and persuading her coworker Micah to pose as her new boyfriend to make Jason jealous. After a few "dates", it looks like her plan is going to work! But now her relationship with Micah is starting to feel like more than just a game.

What's a girl to do when what she wants is totally different from what she needs? How do you figure out the person you're meant to be with if you're still figuring out the person you're meant to be?

From Goodreads:
It took Micah and Lainey half the summer to realize they liked each other in THE ART OF LAINEY. Now watch them realize they love each other in NEW MUSIC, a thirty-page short story that takes place a couple of months after THE ART OF LAINEY ends.

My Review:
Oh, it was just so sweet to read the stories! The Art of Lainey was the main book, but there was Infinite Repeat that gave us a quick look at Micah before the events of The Art of Lainey, and then New Music, which had them together, and yeah, it was just so freaking sweet! Loved it!

Seeing the way that Amber and Micah broke up, I was wondering why he went along with the fake dating to invoke jealousy. But hey, I'm not a very good expert on relationships or emotions! And it was a good thing that he did, because then he and Lainey might not have gotten together if they hadn't spent that time together!

For some reason, I didn't connect "The Art of Lainey" with "The Art of War." but I'm pretty sure that's where the title came from, as she used tactics and instructions from the later to form the former, and try and win back her guy!

They had a sweet story, and I really enjoyed how they faced the obstacles, like his dad's death, and her issues with her ex. It made for a wonderful story, and then ending it with them happy together, was just fantastic!

I just loved reading these books, they were fantastic, and I can't wait to read more by Paula Stokes!
