In the first book of the Shaw Confessions, the companion series to the New York Times bestselling Mara Dyer novels, old skeletons are laid bare and new promises prove deadly. This is what happens after happily ever after.
Everyone thinks seventeen-year-old Noah Shaw has the world on a string.
They're wrong.
Mara Dyer is the only one he trusts with his secrets and his future.
He shouldn't.
And both are scared that uncovering the truth about themselves will force them apart.
They're right.
My Review:
Oh, wow, I loved reading this book! Though I recommend, that you read Retribution before you read this book, because some of the events in that book affect this book a lot! And I didn't, and I totally didn't remember some details which could've enriched my reading experience. Ah well. There's always rereading!
Being in Noah's head was very different from being in Mara's. For one, he's more of the hero type, even if they don't want to let those roles define them. He also doesn't have that feeling of what the heck is going on, like she had for the first two books or so.
We had interspaced through the book letters written by Noah's ancestors, the one that took in Mara's grandmother. So we got to see more of her story, and how it connects to the now. Plus there was more gifted people, and a few familiar faces!
Looking into their abilities and what connects them, that was a really great mystery, along with the disappearances of other gifted people and the deaths that Noah experiences, people who don't want to kill themselves, but can't help themselves. Yeah, there was a lot going on.
That ending was absolutely evil! Noah wanted to believe the best in Mara, that she wasn't he one behind everything. Well, she wasn't behind everything, but she was kind of the bad guy. And yeah, that ending, was like a kick to the face. Such a cliffhanger!
I can't wait for the next book, but the wait is going to be so long!
