Maisie Danger Brown just wanted to get away from home for a bit, see something new. She never intended to fall in love. And she never imagined stumbling into a frightening plot that kills her friends and just might kill her, too. A plot that is already changing life on Earth as we know it. There's no going back. She is the only thing standing between danger and annihilation.
From NY Times bestselling author Shannon Hale comes a novel that asks, How far would you go to save the ones you love? And how far would you go to save everyone else?
My Review:
I loved reading this book! It was different, and quirky, and I really enjoyed reading it! This was kind of a superhero story, given that they are given powers, and have this bad guy to fight, but there was aliens and super technology, and that was just so awesome to read!
Maisie was awesome! She wanted to be an astronaut, but being born without a limb because it was severed in the womb disqualified her. But then she got the opportunity of a lifetime, and while it went sideways, she did get to go into space!
The whole thing with the nanos that injected themselves into the kids, well, it was so fascinating to read about, as well as the other world-building, why the nanos were there, the bad guys, yeah, just so interesting!
There was a really good balance in telling us information we needed to know and action, good pacing working its wonders. Combined with the different parts of the book, it like this book was a series of novellas, each having a story, and each building upon the other, but with a different view. So awesome to read!
I just loved this book, it was so original, and it ended perfectly, with that note that hey, if need be, they can step up again, and we could get another book!
