Week 10 Review: Wild Country

From Goodreads:
In this powerful and exciting fantasy set in the world of the New York Times bestselling Others series, humans and the shape-shifting Others will see whether they can live side by side...without destroying one another.

There are ghost towns in the world—places where the humans were annihilated in retaliation for the slaughter of the shape-shifting Others.

One of those places is Bennett, a town at the northern end of the Elder Hills—a town surrounded by the wild country. Now efforts are being made to resettle Bennett as a community where humans and Others live and work together. A young female police officer has been hired as the deputy to a Wolfgard sheriff. A deadly type of Other wants to run a human-style saloon. And a couple with four foster children—one of whom is a blood prophet—hope to find acceptance.

But as they reopen the stores and the professional offices and start to make lives for themselves, the town of Bennett attracts the attention of other humans looking for profit. And the arrival of the Blackstone Clan, outlaws and gamblers all, will uncover secrets…or bury them.

My Review:
Yeah, I loved reading this book! I was just looking forward to it so much! This book is about them resettling this town, and it's basically like the Wild West 2.0, but the Others have the ultimate power, which the bad guys learn the hard way! I really enjoyed reading about the challenges they face, bringing this town back to life in a way that won't break the fragile peace between the Others and humans. Not an easy path to follow!

This book takes place more along the time line of Etched in Bone, so before Lake Silence. I was wondering why Lake Silence was published first-but then there's the strange phone call that Jana got, one from Julian, that made more sense.

We got to meet a lot of new characters, like Jana and Virgil. I really enjoyed their interactions, because Jana has dealt with being the only female in a male dominated field while in school, and has a chip on her shoulder because of that. And he's a dominate wolf, which she doesn't understand at first, so there was a lot of frustration there! But there were some hilarious moments, like the toy Cowboy Bob that Virgil blamed for giving the puppy treats. It was so cute!

We also had some familiar faces in this book, mother-son duo of Jessie and Tobias. There's some of the emotional stuff because of the events of Marked in Flesh, as well as the practicalities. I really enjoyed the flirtation between Tobias and Jana!

I saw something about why the Others let the situation get to bad to get to the show down, why didn't they just kill all the bad guys before they became a problem. Well, it would've broken what they were trying to build. The cost was high, but honestly, I think it would be higher if they didn't have some good relationships between Others and humans!

Loved reading this book, it was really fantastic, and I can't wait for more!
