Like many homeless kids, fifteen-year-old Mathias Drvar died on the streets. Unlike the rest, he came back– as a vampire.
If Mathias thought being homeless sucked, being a vampire is worse. The vampires who transformed him believe he is the reincarnation of an ancient king. They expect him to quit swearing, use a napkin, and play by their weird, ancient rules. F— that.
But after the reigning queen assaults Mathias, he has visions of a past life in which he was that king. Turns out the current queen killed him then, and wants to kill him again. He'd better grow up fast, because if he doesn't his second life may be shorter than his first.
My Review:
This was a pretty amazing book! I mean, it's a vampire book, and we've gotten a good deal of those since Twilight made it big. But these are different vampires, so not the same old, same old, and yeah, something interesting to read about!
So first off, there's reincarnation in this world, and while Mathias is slow to believe, well, he comes around quite quickly after those visions! And yeah, having a past life, and learning about it at 15, at that age, not a fun thing, even if you're dead!
I really enjoyed the gang of friends that Mathias made, they were interesting, fun, and reminded me of the group of friends that Celeste had in Stolen Songbird, not in character, but the closeness, the teasing, and the helping of each other, it was just so good!
One thing that I want to comment on, is the cover. The image of the guy, it looks a good deal like the guy on the cover of Cloak & Silence by Sherrilyn Kenyon, so yeah, positive re-enforcement on that, because linking that book to this one, even though they're totally different books!
Yeah, this was a pretty great book, and yeah, just a really enjoyable one!
