Around the world, black handprints are appearing on doorways, scorched there by winged strangers who have crept through a slit in the sky.
In a dark and dusty shop, a devil's supply of human teeth grown dangerously low.
And in the tangled lanes of Prague, a young art student is about to be caught up in a brutal otherwordly war.
Meet Karou. She fills her sketchbooks with monsters that may or may not be real; she's prone to disappearing on mysterious "errands"; she speaks many languages--not all of them human; and her bright blue hair actually grows out of her head that color. Who is she? That is the question that haunts her, and she's about to find out.
When one of the strangers--beautiful, haunted Akiva--fixes his fire-colored eyes on her in an alley in Marrakesh, the result is blood and starlight, secrets unveiled, and a star-crossed love whose roots drink deep of a violent past. But will Karou live to regret learning the truth about herself?
My first review of Daughter of Smoke and Bone
My Review:
Such a fantastic book! And again, I loved the whole, present with questions about the past beginning half, then the transition between past and present, to mostly past with reactions to it in the present, to the ending, which was just so freaking good, because this is an amazing book, and who doesn't love an amazing book?
Between the mysteries of Karou's past, and the additional strangeness to an already strange life-the hand prints burned into the doors, and then the doors burning down, and Akiva, who first tries to kill her, but then figures out who she is...yeah. There was that.
I loved the silliness, the stomach butterflies, that they created a scientific name for them, and yeah, the whole concept was silly and cute, and just totally loveable.
I think my favourite part was her previous life, and the myth that they came up with because they decided that the current myths were too depressing, and her's was short and to the point, about lovers and happiness, and simple contentment. It was just a great life to imagine.
Yeah, this was a freaking fantastic book, absolutely loved it, and I can't wait to reread more, and then finish this series!!
