Forced to obey her master.
Compelled to help her enemy.
Determined to free herself.
Nalia is a jinni of tremendous ancient power, the only survivor of a coup that killed nearly everyone she loved. Stuffed into a bottle and sold by a slave trader, she's now in hiding on the dark caravan, the lucrative jinni slave trade between Arjinna and Earth, where jinn are forced to grant wishes and obey their human masters' every command. She'd give almost anything to be free of the golden shackles that bind her to Malek, her handsome, cruel master, and his lavish Hollywood lifestyle.
Enter Raif, the enigmatic leader of Arjinna's revolution and Nalia's sworn enemy. He promises to free Nalia from her master so that she can return to her ravaged homeland and free her imprisoned brother—all for an unbearably high price. Nalia's not sure she can trust him, but Raif's her only hope of escape. With her enemies on the hunt, Earth has become more perilous than ever for Nalia. There's just one catch: for Raif's unbinding magic to work, Nalia must gain possession of her bottle…and convince the dangerously persuasive Malek that she truly loves him. Battling a dark past and harboring a terrible secret, Nalia soon realizes her freedom may come at a price too terrible to pay: but how far is she willing to go for it?
Inspired by Arabian Nights, EXQUISITE CAPTIVE brings to life a deliciously seductive world where a wish can be a curse and shadows are sometimes safer than the light.
My Review:
I enjoyed this book so much! It was interesting, and the foreign quality to it, that evokes a slower world, of deeper thought, and a hot, humid atmosphere, one that the slower songs like to get, that kind of beat you want to sway to, you know?
I almost thought something was going to happen between Nalia and Raif. But then Nalia compares her experiences with the guys, she says that in one kiss with Raif, the feelings were more then all of the kisses between her and Malek, so yeah, Raif is her guy! Which just makes the ending all the more harder!
The one thing I didn't like? That almost everything about Arijanna was described as "sweet." In less then 50 pages, there were 4 mentions of that that I found, once I started noticing it, and yeah, while a small thing, it rubbed me wrong! Mostly because they implied that Earth's equivalent wasn't as good!
Yeah, that ending was pretty explosive! That he had killed her friend and used her image as a diversion, that was sad. That she almost died, but Raif brought her back, but while she was in that in between space, that Malek tried to summon her but it didn't work. And when they were taking the slave bracelets off, I just wanted them to hurry-because I knew something bad would happen!
Yeah, really enjoyed this book, and it ended where we want the second book now! Though I'm wondering why the series is called the Dark Caravan, seeing as it wasn't a very important part of this story! Could mean that the next 2 books have more detail in it! You never know!
