Bayou Myth: Review and Review

As a sixteen year old voodoo queen in the making, Joan Renault just wants to be like all the other girls in the small town of Monte Parish, Louisiana—obsessed with boys and swamped with social lives. When Joan witnesses the brutal sacrifice of a child to a tree Druid, she learns her Grandmere's scandalous past has come back to haunt those living in the present. Hera, a vengeful voodoo priestess is determined to use the residual energy of Pandora's Box to revive a sleeping voodoo god and declare war on the descendants of Marie Laveau, especially Joan. Suddenly, Greek myths are being re-enacted all over town, and Joan has her hands full trying to sort it all out. With the approach of Samedi's Day—the voodoo day of resurrection—Joan must learn to accept her destiny in order to stop the approaching threat to her family and friends.

My Review:

Loved reading this book! Joan had a really awesome voice that had the pages flying, and was just so entertaining to read about! And oh, that she's a descendent of Marie Laveau, as someone who's never been to New Orleans, but knows a few of the basics, is kinda cool. Even if it's causing Joan all sorts of conflict, that just gives us readers more entertainment!

That the Greek myths were a part of this when I think voodoo is either Africa or Caribbean, or a mix of both, was something that I wanted to see how it all fit in, and how it did, well, that alone made reading the book the best! Not to mention everything else!

I just loved these characters! Marie Laveau, while dead, is still around in some form to bug her descendent, Joan, and both characters were really great to read about, Joan dealing with the fact that she's supposed to be the next great voodoo priestess, and is rebelling.

And then there's Dave. He was keeping quite a few secrets in this book, and Joan discovered them. So he isn't as bad a guy as he seemed to be when those secrets first started coming out. Because then was when the chaos was happening!

Really enjoyed this book a lot, and I'd love to read the sequel!
