Mercy Thompson has been hailed as "a heroine who continues to grow and yet always remains true to herself." Now she’s back, and she’ll soon discover that when the fae stalk the human world, it's the children who suffer...
Tensions between the fae and humans are coming to a head. And when coyote shapeshifter Mercy and her Alpha werewolf mate, Adam, are called upon to stop a rampaging troll, they find themselves with something that could be used to make the fae back down and forestall out-and-out war: a human child stolen long ago by the fae.
Defying the most powerful werewolf in the country, the humans, and the fae, Mercy, Adam, and their pack choose to protect the boy no matter what the cost. But who will protect them from a boy who is fire touched?
My Review:
This series just keeps proving that it's fantastic and wonderful and a must-read for paranormal book lovers! We got to spend more time with Mercy, Adam and the pack, and some other familiar characters and friends! It was just so great!
We got to learn a bit about Underhill in this book, and how she locked the Fae out of her, and kept some humans-and the fae that were imprisoned. And that she gave the kids powers so that they could survive. Like Aidan the Fire Touched. Which added some complications to Mercy and Adam's lives, seeing as she claimed the Tri-Cities as their territory. Which is a pretty big deal!
One thing that I wondered about, was what was the timeline of Thomas, and the story he was in, and how it connected to this series and his participation in Frost Burned. Well, we found out in this book, having a meeting with some Gray Lords, and yeah, it was great that Mercy might soon have a new friend!
This is the book where Adam finally tells the pack where to shove it in regards to the fact that Mercy's his mate. Which is a long time coming, and so enjoyable! That he did that, that Hope stood up for her, and the warm fuzzy feelings there!
The walking stick! Oh, that ending hurt! That was one loss that I wasn't expecting, because I didn't know that it was something that could be lost. But that was the only death that mattered, which is a good thing!
Such a great, fantastic book, and I can't wait for the next Mercy Thompson book and the next Alpha and Omega book!
