Week 1 Reviews: Dragon Bones, Dragon Blood

From Goodreads:
From the #1 New York Times bestselling author of Iron Kissed-a magical tale.Riding into a war that's heating up on the border, Ward, the new lord of Herzog, is sure he's on the fast track to glory. But soon his mission takes a deadly turn. For he has seen a pile of magical dragon bones hidden deep beneath Hurog Keep. The bones could prove to be dangerous in the wrong hands, and Ward is certain his enemies will stop at nothing to possess them.

From Goodreads:
CALL TO REBELLION

Ward, ruler of Hurog, is striving to restore his lands and people to prosperity, wanting nothing more than a quiet life. But when an old friend, escaping from High Hing Jakouen's torturers, seeks refuge in his keep, Ward can no longer ignore the growing rebellion against the tyrannical High Hing. He realizes that he cannot stand aside--he must join with the rebels.

However, Jakouen has a secret weapon with which he intends to crush the rebellion: Farsonsbane, a magical artifact that has destroyed entire cities. But first, Jakouen needs blood to awaken it. Dragon's blood. The very blood that courses through Ward's veins...

My Review:
I devoured reading these books! I love Patricia Briggs' writing, and I loved the idea of reading this duology back to back. And it was so amazing, I couldn't put them down (I started Dragon Bones late on the 4th, and read until almost 1 AM to finish it.) They were such fantastic reads!

This world of the Hurog, where there used to be dragons but haven't been in a long time, was so interesting to read! There's a bunch of politics, given that Hurog Keep was the seat of royalty of their kingdom in the Five Kingdoms. And boy, are there some high stake political plays going on!

The first book introduces us to Ward, who fakes being stupid to protect himself from his violent father, only when his father dies, there's the matter of his inheritance, and what people believe of him. Just the scope of these books and the world, as everything was going on, was so great! Oh, but he was a fantastic character, a good person, who was put in awful, painful and cruel situations!

These books are more violent then the Mercy Thompson world, there's a lot of death, violence, and gore. And some heartbreaking situations. But Ward has a heavy burden on his shoulders, and he takes in strays, and I just loved everything about this duology except the fact that it's only a duology and I can't have more of this world and these characters!

Loved reading this series so much, and I need to read the rest of Patricia Briggs' books!
