Week 1 Reviews: The Rotten Beast, The Fox Inheritance, Fox Forever

From Goodreads:
Presenting a new original science fiction story, "The Rotten Beast," by author Mary E. Pearson, which takes place in the same near-future world of The Jenna Fox Chronicles.

In "The Rotten Beast," a sixteen-year-old girl named Allys, living in a near future version of the U.S., is vehemently opposed to the way scientists are meddling with human and artificial life. In fact, she blames such scientific overreaching for the illness which is killing her. When she awakens one day to find that her parents have gone against her wishes and had an illegal operation performed to save her life and restore her body, she is furious and must come to terms with this new chance at life, which she didn't ask for and didn't think she wanted.

From Goodreads:
Once there were three. Three friends who loved each other—Jenna, Locke, and Kara. And after a terrible accident destroyed their bodies, their three minds were kept alive, spinning in a digital netherworld. Even in that disembodied nightmare, they were still together. At least at first. When Jenna disappeared, Locke and Kara had to go on without her. Decades passed, and then centuries.

Two-hundred-and-sixty years later, they have been released at last. Given new, perfect bodies, Locke and Kara awaken to a world they know nothing about, where everyone they once knew and loved is long dead.

Everyone except Jenna Fox.

Locke Jenkins has some catching up to do. After spending 260 years as a disembodied mind in a little black box, he has a perfect new body. But before he can move on with his unexpected new life, he'll have to return the Favor he accepted from the shadowy resistance group known as the Network.

Locke must infiltrate the home of a government official by gaining the trust of his daughter, seventeen-year-old Raine, and he soon finds himself pulled deep into the world of the resistance—and into Raine's life.

In Fox Forever, Mary E. Pearson brings the story she began in The Adoration of Jenna Fox and continued in The Fox Inheritance to a breathtaking conclusion as Locke discovers that being truly human requires much more than flesh and blood.

My first review of
The Fox Inheritance
My Review:
Well I finally completed this series! I've been meaning to for so long, and now I have! I had such a good time rereading The Fox Inheritance, and reading The Rotten Beast and Fox Forever! They were such fantastic reads!

The Rotten Beast was really great, because we got to see Allys after she has the illegal, unwanted surgery performed on her. We didn't see this time in the first book, and given that she was so opposed to it, well, I enjoyed reading this story! And The Rotten Beast, the created chocolate peach, that was a great part of the story!

I've read The Fox Inheritance before, but that was years ago, and it's basically gone from my memory at this point. We're in Locke's head-that has been made a new body, after his mind has been contained in a machine for 260 years. So he and Kara have come back to a world that is drastically changed, where their existence is illegal, and oh, it was such a great adventure!

Fox Forever was so great! That Locke is paying back the Favor that he owes, and the politics of it all. At the heart of this series is the question of what makes up humanity, to be a person with rights, what percentage, what qualities. It's a fascinating ethic and moral question, and it's explored really well in this series!

Loved reading these books, and I can't wait to read the rest of Mary E. Pearson's books!
