Born an Outcast, Talyn Batur has spent the whole of his life fighting against the prejudice of his people. An Andarion without a father is not something anyone wants to be.
But when his companion's brother draws him into a plot against the Andarion crown, he finds himself torn between the loyalty to their planetary government that his mother has beaten into him and his own beliefs of justice and right.
Now, he must decide for himself to remain a pawn of their government or to defy everything and everyone he's ever known to stand up to tyranny. It's a gamble that will either save his life or end it. And when old enemies align with new ones, it's more than just his own life at risk. And more than just his homeworld that will end should he fail.
My Review:
Man, another great, fantastic instalment in this series that just keeps getting bigger and bigger! I loved reading it, it was just so utterly fantastic! And the fact that it shows Nyk's mom coming into power, which happened in Born of Night, but which we didn't get to see, well, that was really excellent!
Honestly, I had a bit of a hard time getting into this book. I wanted to hold off on reading it, until it was closer for Born of Betrayal. But then things got worse, and I just had to keep reading! It's weird, I didn't want to read about the hardships, but when they got harder for him, the more that I wanted to read!
Talyn and Felicity can't marry, because he doesn't have claim to his paternal lineage, because his dad, Fain, is an Outcast. And they can't have kids, or he'd go to prison for 10 years. Which really sucks. Then adding in her bastard status, and how they met because of an ad for her to be a companion, which is the only legal way they could be together, things really suck!
This was a real close look at what the Andarion's rulers looked like before Nyk's mom took over for her mom. Because her mom was pretty darn evil! That was awful, what the ruler, and her relatives, did, to almost everyone! Which is why WAR was right!
When it was mentioned that Talyn had the genetic throwbacks from both sides of his family, stalen from the War Hauks, and then something from the Batur's, well, I just wanted to know what it was! Well, the full family name gives a clue! And how Jayne is connected to that? And then also how her husband is connected to Nero? Yeah, lots of great and excellent stuff going on! And things that we learned about Ryn, too! So much was learnt, it was so awesome!
Man, this was a really epic book, so awesome-loved that they got to use what awful on Nyk, on the bad guys!-and now I just want Talyn's parent's book, so he and Felicity can get a full happy ending, they deserve marriage and kids! Which I know they'll get, after Fain was adopted by the royal family in Fury!
