Week 5 Review: Tempest Unleashed

From Goodreads:
Tempest Maguire is happy with her decision to embrace her mermaid nature and live among her mother's clan within the ocean’s depths. Even though training to one day ascend the throne for the aging mermaid queen is rigorous, she finds refuge in the arms of Kona, the selkie who first opened her up to her mermaid side. But when word comes that one of her brothers has been gravely injured on land, Tempest immediately rushes to his side—which also brings her back to her old flame, Mark. And in her absence, a deadly battle begins raging at the hands of Tempest's old nemesis, the sea witch Tiamat. As the dangerous war erupts, Tempest's two loves—Kona and Mark, sea and land—will collide for the first time, both to protect her and to force her to choose.

My Review:
I honestly didn't enjoy this book as much as the first one. First off, Kona wasn't a mystery anymore. Second, Kona wasn't really Kona anymore, he just grew apart from Tempest, which sucked, and lead to number 3. Three, that Tempest got back with Mark. I just didn't like Mark too much from the first book, though he was a bit better in this book!

So one question keeps coming up in my mind, after reading this. Why didn't Tempest go back and visit her family in this book? Was it mentioned why, and I forgot? Which is most likely. But to me, tat just means that either the answer wasn't interesting, or I didn't like, it wasn't sufficient. I know she made a choice, but why couldn't she visit?

Then there was her brother, caught in the crossfire, which is not fun at all. Kids shouldn't be used as anything in a war, a distraction in this case, because while Tempest is out of the water, bad things happen in it. So there's a helping of guilt for her, on both sides of this, her brother getting hurt, and what happened while she was gone because he was hurt.

I can see why Tempest choose to be with Mark again in this. Half that Kona just wasn't how he was in the first book, he was more distant, and true, bad things were happening in his kingdom, but he didn't have to pull away. And half that Mark was there, and nice, in this book, with her brother, and so much more. I still like Kona better!

This was a really great book, one that I enjoyed a lot, and I'd love the last book now!
