Lydia Bentley has heard stories about the Montauk Project all her life: stories about the strange things that took place at the abandoned military base near her home and the people who've disappeared over the years. Stories about people like her own great-grandfather.
When Lydia stumbles into a portal that transports her to a dangerous and strange new reality, she discovers that all the stories she's ever heard about the Montauk Project are true, and that she's in the middle of one of the most dangerous experiments in history.
Alongside a darkly mysterious boy she is wary to trust, Lydia begins to unravel the secrets surrounding the Project. But the truths behind these secrets force her to question all her choices--and if Lydia chooses wrong, she might not save her family but destroy them . . . and herself.
My Review:
Oh, this fantastic book! I really loved it, it was really awesome, and just a really awesome time travel book! So great! And the idea of the Montauk Project, and then being sucked into it, well, yeah, that sucks, but it was so fun to read!
So to have a grandfather who's obsessed with the project, and then going back in time to when he was a teen, well, that was really interesting! Because it was all kinds of complicated, and Dr. Who reference, "timey wimey" (did I spell it right?) and not wanting to mess with the timeline. All sorts of complicated!
I really enjoyed her relationship with him, because it was conflicted with the fact that they are in the past, but also by the fact that he's a subject of the experiment, and all that sucky stuff. So it was really great to read about them together!
But oh, that ending! That was such a cliffhanger, that her grandfather's gone in the new timeline, and so in it, that she's basically taken his place as the one that was obsessed with the project. And yeah, things can't stay that way!
I enjoyed this book so much, it was so great to read, and I can't wait to read more, this was a great start to the series!
