With the clock ticking until the virus takes its toll, Rhine is desperate for answers. After enduring Vaughn's worst, Rhine finds an unlikely ally in his brother, an eccentric inventor named Reed. She takes refuge in his dilapidated house, though the people she left behind refuse to stay in the past. While Gabriel haunts Rhine’s memories, Cecily is determined to be at Rhine's side, even if Linden's feelings are still caught between them.
Meanwhile, Rowan's growing involvement in an underground resistance compels Rhine to reach him before he does something that cannot be undone. But what she discovers along the way has alarming implications for her future—and about the past her parents never had the chance to explain.
My Review:
This book was a lot like Wither for me, there wasn't a lot of action, but there was a lot that was going on, you know? This was a really emotional book, with a lot of highs-but there were pretty low lows, too! It was a really fantastic way to end the series!
This is the book where we finally get to know her brother, which is really great, because he's been a big presence in her life. And that twist there, with him, that was really horrible for Rhine, but so fantastic to read!
So the fact that Rhine and Rowan are the key to the cure, that girls aren't going to die at age 20, boys don't die at age 25, well, it's too bad that their parents didn't have a chance to tell them earlier, then they never would've had to go through this!
One of the hardest things, was Landon's death. He could've lived a by our standards, lifetime, they had the cure. And then his death was just so senseless. And it sucked. But life-and death-are like that, there just are some things we can't control.
Such a really fantastic book, I enjoyed it so much, and yeah, can't wait to read more books by Lauren DeStefano!
